Heather certainly should've finished it earlier and got tight, however well done in coming through in straights!:clap:
True, but not so long ago that woukd have been it. She would have lost the tiebreak and rolled over in the 3rd. She seems stronger mentally at the moment. Long may it last.
Good Luck Heather!!!!. Will be watching but not online!!
Players warming up. Good luck, Heather

Oh my! Didn't Heather do well. SO impressive, esp the first set! It's wonderful to see her back playing like this. In this form she could go deep...saying this without the knowledge of who she plays next. But it's great. At least we'll see her on Friday.:clap::clap:
Solid, solid play from Heather, Keep that confidence growing!!!!........Well Done!!!!:thumbup:

Awesome from Heather and she weathered the challenging moments in the 2nd, Sevastova fell away a bit at the end though.:clap::clap: She will face Azarenka next who put out 15th seed Vesnina 6-3, 6-3. 2nd seed Halep and 25th seed Suarez Navarro likely to face off to meet the winner.
Very Good Luck Heather!!!

That was so so close, a bit gutted for Hev. Vika needs renaming as Shreika - very annoying
That was a very absorbing match! Heather did really well and it was anything but a thrashing. She gave Vika a hard time. Well played Heather and be proud of yourself. We didn't see the smile today but she has every reason to keep smiling. She's had a good Wimbledon.
JAMES4578
07-07-2017, 16:18
Certainly a great effort from Heather but came up a bit short though Vika obviously tough. May not have been crucial but pity the 2nd set went away from her quickly. Still hopefully Heather can build on the grass court season and maintain a more confident mode.
Hev and Henri have beaten Vika and partner in the mixed :cheer:
Heather and Henry had a great run in the mixed, contested the final but pipped by Jamie and Martina Hingis, a very entertaining game to end Wimbledon 2017.
Heather potentially has two matches in Washington qualifying tomorrow. If she wins the first one at 3.00pm (UK) she will play the second round later in the day. Good luck, Heather
Heather took the first set 6 - 2 :boogie: and it is 1-1 in the second.

Just followed score for Heather first round qualifying in Cincinnati - she lost first few games, won some to get to tiebreak which she lost. Started second set better but lost it 4-6. Maybe her shoulder is not right yet?

Heather has not won a senior match at US open, 6 first round losses could well become 7 after losing opening set 4-6. Not a great record for a US junior champion!
JAMES4578
28-08-2017, 16:10

Well done Heather! 2nd set looked like a toughy with Heather leading 3-1 having survived multiple deuces, being broken back and then retaking the lead for 4-3 and holding out to the end. That must be one of her best wins this year.

Heather going great guns in Hobart, won earlier today to set up a quarterfinal against Donna Vekic, that maybe a step to far but great to see her sting some wins together
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/42632050
Heather went through Vekic like a dose of salts. Vekic only held serve once in the match. If it wasn’t for Heather messing up serving it out twice, it would have been done and dusted very quickly. 6:0, 6:4. Well done.
JAMES4578
11-01-2018, 10:52
Great it was thus a comprehensive win for Heather, though not the challenge expected from Vekic.
Sadly Heather lost 4-6, 6-1, 2-6
Heather loses the first set 5 - 7, but winning 3 - 0 in the second.

disappointing. Don't think Putintseva is someone I'm going to be supporting often ... shall we say.
I agree on both points. It was disappointing that Heather couldn't capitalise on her early lead in the second and Putintseva is not someone I would choose to watch.
Heather is playing in Acapulco this week and has reached the doubles final with her partner T. Maria. All the best of luck, girls.

Sad for Heather - she missed too many chances .
1hr 43 is a hell of a long time for only 18 games, shows how close it was despite the look of the scoreline.

It's certainly getting tough for Heather on the main tour, problem (as has been frequently highlighted) is that she has no big weapons, and relies on playing to her best every day. Possibly a few weeks on grass might benefit her.
Just lost in straight sets in R1 of Prague. She managed to break back, but was immediately broken again. :-(

Just won her Women’s Doubles R1 match in straight sets. So far the French Open is proving a nice little money spinner for her. Well deserved.
I make that a minimum of 101,000 euro even if Heather loses both 2nd round matches. £87000 which sounds a lot, but when you consider her ytd earnings are only just over £100,000 it's so important to keep her ranking up high enough to not have to qualify for the Slams and Tier 1 events, which is where you make the most money for the least work. For example, Heather earned £35000 for losing first round in Melbourne, but only £8500 for winning 5 matches in Hobart. Again, £200,000 for a year sounds a lot but she has to pay a coach, travel, live, and hopefully put something aside for when she stops playing.
@ Sutton Tennis - I agree with you. She has had such a dire year. It’s good that she is making hay whilst the sun shines. The French Open is giving some much needed dosh. The payouts per round are so much higher.
I have a soft spot for Heather. I think in many ways she is underrated. She has 3 WTA titles, and her Wimbledon Mixed Doubles.
Heather serving to stay in the match at 3-6 *4-5.
And fails to do so. Not a terrible showing against the 16th seed.
JAMES4578
31-05-2018, 12:21
Not surprising really but still a bit disappointing Heather couldn't maintain the fightback in the 2nd, quite a few break but Heather's serve was the most vulnerable.
I cringe every time I come on this thread and see Heather being called Hev ..... if I was a Heather I would lynch anyone that called me Hev  ... ;)
I feel the same about Muzza and Kedders...
Josephine
04-06-2018, 13:01
Muzza is great I think. But Kedders is awful - sounds like a cheesy crisp.
RosieBear
04-06-2018, 13:06
They all sound awful to my ears, but don't find the surname/nicknames quite so bad as the mangling of Heather's first name. 'Hev' sounds really common to me, but think I've heard that she likes to be called by that name, so each to their own.
Josephine
04-06-2018, 13:10
And Jo Konta isn't Jo at all and doesn't like it apparently but I guess she has given up.
I don't mind Kedders so much because it came from Kyle's DC team mates not just fans deciding to call it him.
