Fingers crossed for the four cup underdogs this weekend.

Everton because Moyes deserves it and current form too

Spurs because they're playing Chelsea

Hearts obviously

Don't really care about Aberdeen/Hibs but would be nice to beat the unwashed in the final.

2 cup finals, maybe 2 victories is a great achievement, but with the money FSG/Kenny have spent can you honestly say you're happy with the performances or league position?

2 cup finals, maybe 2 victories is a great achievement, but with the money FSG/Kenny have spent can you honestly say you're happy with the performances or league position?

No not happy with the league position at all. We should be doing better, it needs to be said though that we weren't expected to finish in the top 4 this season anyways, that's the problem football fans these days they demand instant success and have short memories. It wasn't long ago when we were in meltdown behind the scenes under Hicks and Gillet and doing appallingly under Hodgeson. This season the signs are there that progress is being made. It's not as if we are playing poor either, in numerous matches this season we have dominated the game but just failed to take our chances.

Anyways potentially double cup victory is some consolation. Brilliant achievement if we were to win the FA Cup. No mean feat, so like I said improvement is being made. Success in the league won't happen overnight but it looks as if this season could mark the foundation of a successful tenure under Kenny.

People also always say spent all that money, most of it we gained from the Torres transfer anyways. Our net spending fee under Kenny is only a few million.

Delighted for Carroll today by the way, I've had faith in him from the start. Recently he's shown just what he can do and he's starting to start a lot more games too which is good. Actually part of the problem was Kenny's treatment of him IMO, dropping after he scores in a game etc, never really giving him a consistent run out in the team. Delighted for him today though.

Still have a lot of question marks over Downing, disappointing signing for me. Massive let down.

Bellamy on a free was an exceptional buy though and he yet again this season played a decisive role in a massive win for us!

AllyB
15-04-2012, 09:16
Downing and Henderson both have a lot to prove. Lucas' injury was massive this season. Carra has been a great player, but his lack of pace is starting to cost a lot!

Happy days. Never a penalty but Hooper was offside so these things equal themselves out. Anyone lipread what the ginger thug was saying to Mr Norris after the final whistle?

Craig Beattie looking more and more like the signing of the season. Always liked him at Celtic and been surprised at his lack of progress since.

Craig Beattie looking more and more like the signing of the season. Always liked him at Celtic and been surprised at his lack of progress since.hmm where the tipping point is, is a matter of perspective with my green tinted specs on you never see those hand balls given where as the offside are always up for debate. btw black should have been gone for his assault on ledley

I would say if you're going to block with your arms out then you always take the risk of conceding.

Again a matter of perspective, I didn't think Black's challenge was any worse than Mulgrew's leading up to it. Both yellows was right.

Refs and officials alike have been dreadful this season. Also in Man U game another dive from Young gets Man U their token penalty. That's twice in 2 weeks Young has dived. Did he run on to the park and accost the ref? Did he use social media to accuse a referee of a personal attack? No, he responded to questioning from the media. Which Mr. Lennon singularly refused to do. And Levein had far more provocation.

-J-
16-04-2012, 18:59
he ran on the park ? same as Stephen Presley did in league cup semi ,don't recount any mass media uproar regarding that ?
so saying on twitter ts personal is wrong but saying a ref set outwith the sole intention of letting your opponents win on national TV is fine ?
provocation ? that's ok then not like lennon had any cause to be annoyed

Chelsea skipper John Terry on his red card which will rule him out of the Champions League final: "It does look bad on the replay. I raised my knee but hopefully the people out there who know me, know I'm not that kind of player.
"I feel as though I let them (team-mates) down. I have apologised to them and I apologise to the Chelsea fans. At the time I was bewildered, But looking at the replay it looks a red card. On a personal note, of course (it hurts I miss the final). But we deserve to be in the Champions League final. I really hope that doesn't take away from this win."

Gawd I had to watch this and do a remedial match reporting class because it's so different to normal reporting practice.
So we went to journo school again yesterday evening and sat in the sports agency office with the tutor walking round and telling us what we need to put I'm.

When the second Barca goal came in all but one of us assumed it was Messi who scored so when we filed the half time report 5 mins after it finished we all "failed"!!!

Then we watched the 2nd half and all fell about laughing at the sudden panning to see Torres out all on his own!

I was sat in between a massive Chelsea fan and a massive Chelsea hater!!!!
Good session though we missed all the interviews as again we had 5 mins to file and the tutor turned off the TV and then ran through some last minute tips before we all basically ran out the door.

When Liverpool won it in 05 they actually finished 5th in league with Everton in 4th. Subsequently Everton had their CL place annulled and Liverpool were entered. So yea same thing could happen this year albeit different sides, but it makes sense. Would be ridiculous if the defending champions couldn't defend the trophy!

I agree but space should be left in the draw for the winners without taking a place away from another national side.
I once looked at the complete "ranking" system for when teams entered the competition and it is a bit like the tennis ranking system in that the big "18" (give or take a bad year by the "last" Spanish/English/Italian side) tend to mainly be the ones in the last sixteen!

In 2005-06, Liverpool actually entered through the CL qualifying rounds as an extra (5th) English entry. I do now recall discussions at the time saying that in future the 4th placed team would lose their place.

I understand the commercial side of UEFA wanting all the big teams in there but calling it the Champions League is a farce. As an example, how is it fair that Arsenal who haven't won anything for years look likely to get straight into the group stages whereas Celtic, the Scottish champions, have to got through 2 qualifying rounds?

Just checked this years stats - 5 of the last 16, 3 of the last 8, 1 of the last 4 and 0 of the finalists were champions of their league last year.

Champions League = League for Champions (of what? answers on a postcard to usual address ...)

I know the administrators have to do their best for the creditors but Charles Green seems a bit of a dangerous choice for the Gers. Imagine the irony of history showing that the last owners of Rangers1872 were Green and Whyte.

Can anyone explain to me how any bidder can be confident of a CVA when the exact amount of the tax liability still hasn't been announced? Had also heard that HMRC only do deals where it is non-payment that is the problem, but not where a company has beend found guilty of tax evasion.

Still love the king.
But not too surprised his time came to an end.
For a replacement, I would like someone like Rikkard, pep (won't happen) or the return of Rafa. Don't really want someone like roberto martinez or brendan rodgers.

AllyB

If anyone else had spent the same money Kenny did and had the same results, would you be backing him?

Valid point but considering the depths of despair we were in before Kenny took over we have undoubtedly progressed. Many LFC fans supported a long term project with Kenny at the helm, Kenny building a foundation for success to be built upon, We saw glimpses of that last season, with a trophy and consecutive Wembley appearances.

This is modern day football though and the owners are cowboys who come in and expect instant success. Be rest assured that if Chelsea don't win the CL Di Matteo won't be offered the job. If Citeh hadn't won the title Mancini would have been sacked. Gone are the days of long term projects and building a long term succesfull team. If Ferguson started at Man U this century he would have been sacked years ago.

AllyB
16-05-2012, 21:44
Passion is all very well and I am a massive Kenny fan, but the fact is that Liverpool have massively underperformed this year considering the investment that has been made.

In the 70s/80s/90s era, I think Carra as player-manager woulld have been worth a punt but you're quite right - money is the boss now.

Quick fixing isn't going to solve it, problem will still be there. These foreign owners expect that quick pill to fix everything, doesn't work like that. The signs were there of a foundation being built to lay success upon under Kenny.

While I see your point Dave, spending £80m(ish) on 4 players was always going to up the pressure for quick results. Adam and Downing have both pretty much failed to live up to past form. Henderson and Carroll were starting to show some sort of form towards the end of the season and I think they'll both come good in the long run.

What exactly is the Murray Group Remuneration Trust? Is it legal? Is it legal to be a beneficiary? And what is side letters?

-J-
23-05-2012, 22:01
now then
basically playerss got there wages, and then on top of that they where given a "loan" payed into a tax free account
they have been deemed illigal the way rangers used them as the loans payed in where fixed amounts and there fore deemed part of the wage
ie you got 200000 per week normally which was taxed and a further 20000 a week untaxed
rangers are currently appealing the decision but its taking ages for a decision to be taken if upheld they are liable for anything up to 75 mil
(btw arsenal where also found guilty and payed up 40 odd mill with less fuss)
the other issue they have is the side letters , these where given to players as an addition to thier contract stipulating how much they would receive from the trust , the problem is these letters where never given to the sfa as part of the players registration so any player who has one SHOULD be deemed to have been improperly registered the punishment for which is the forfeit of any game they played in
which in thiory means they have just about forfeited every game back to 1992
but the SFA have had the prove for months and have done nothing and wouldn't be surprised if SFA wasnt the final punishment to

very basic summery if you want full details you should check out rangers taxcase (http://rangerstaxcase.wordpress.com/) the guys a genius

Some of the EPL players have been the players of the tournament so far.

Agger (Liverpool) captain of Denmark was dominant against Holland.

Silva (City) was class against Italy.

Some of the EPL players have been the players of the tournament so far.

Agger (Liverpool) captain of Denmark was dominant against Holland.

Silva (City) was class against Italy.

Arshavin (Arsenal) was pulling the strings for Russia against the Czechs.

Lescott and Nasri (City) have just scored for France and England respectively.:rolling: tad early to be handing out player of the tournament accolades

Maybe point still stands though. You are quick to slate the Premier League but you should probably remind yourself which team won the Champions league last season. ;)

sill how dose that impact my original question ? was merly wondering if EPL players will under perform on the big stage again, with the possible exception of tevez none of them kicked a ball in south Africa

Yea fair enough.

Is anyone following this this today? (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18410999) What exactly does "newco Rangers" mean? And if the SPL clubs vote against it what will that mean for Rangers?

-J-

it means rangers 1873 will no longer exist, their will be a new team with some variation of the name but with none of the history no world record titles no wee red stars on the jersey
if they dont get voted in to the spl (i think they will get in), then they have to apply to the SFA to join the third division (there would be a space as someone from the 1st division going into the prem to replace ranger, and someone from the 2nd going up to replace them etc)

this is only one aspect there is still the disrepute charge pending which could see them kicked out of football all together(again i doubt it) and the second contract issue which could see auld rangers loose a number of titles

also a number of Celtic bloggers are convinced greens deal to buy a liquidated ibrox park etc isnt sound and that HMRC could force through a sale of all assets

No doubt the other clubs will bottle it and vote to keep them in to save their asses.

up till recently i was 100 % convinced they would to, but recently there have been some rumblings from other boards & chairmen so now i have a 10% - 15% hope they may do the right thing
FWIW i think there is a stronger finacial argument for kicking them oot the tv deal is worth buttons and surly having football on a saturday afternoon is bound to draw customers back

Certainly a dire situation for the Gers. Almost as dire as Wayne Rooney's new haircut. (https://twitter.com/HuffPostUKCom/status/212867769883049984/photo/1)

Just heard the news that Harry Redknapp gone & David Moyes taking over Spurs??

DaveArneRiise

Yea very much a surprise that. Harry did a fantastic job at Spurs, mindless to give him the sack.

Have you seen this J? (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/sky-threat-pull-plug-spl-113142799.html) Surely if that happens then the SPL is royally screwed, and Celtic fans like yourself who have been revelling in Rangers demise are going to have a lot of egg on your face as it pretty much seals your fate too.

sky have said nothing so who know, but even if worse case scenario sky withdraw do you have any idea how much of oor income is generated from the sky deal. il give you a clue not a lot
some of the smaller clubs really on the sky deal far more but even with them there is an argument that a more competitive fight for second place(excuse the assumption) will bring more fands through the turnstiles
if no one offers a tv deal it leaves the clubs open to set up their own tv channel, which was Celtics favored option in the first place
but ultimately money shouldn't even be an issue the cheats have dragged Scottish football to the brink for years and if it means a drop in income for my club i couldn't give two hoots. wipping them of the face of the planet isnt enough of a punishment as far as i am concerned
