New manager, new challenge. Let's hope ST has made the right decision. Welcome to Tannadice JMac!!
SPL men against 3rd division boys! :big grin:
Sounds like it. Good to see Blackie back to his best. Lee Wallace didn't look like an international at Daly's goal. (only bit I actually saw)
I hear Charles Green forgot about the boycott!

Braw day!!! :boogie:
United continue their run of drawing lower league teams. Maybe your name is on the cup?
Dundee, whilst I agree they are not in our league, are still in the SPL for the moment though!
I know, but should have been Dunfermline that got the place

Becks was probably saying that he (Andy) is too intelligent for the public to take him to their hearts!
Good to see the new Rangers are maintaining the honesty and integrity that the once mighty club held dear.
Easily pleased. Its only Hearts ;)
Actually, it was only Ngoo who bothered, but I'd say he was destined for other things.

Hearts fans should do similar to these fans of a German team. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuC5BP8db6w)
Hopefully now McGlynn has gone, we may play 2 strikers at the same time - bound to improve the chances of a goal or two.
Before anyone says, I know we've lost a lot of players and are more or less playing a youth team at times, but his tactics are shocking. Better to try and win and lose 4-1, than try and keep it close and lose 1 or 2-0 as far as i'm concerned.
Never thought i'd be grateful to Dundee after 1986 but thank god they're in the top flight this season.

Just to say I flew in to Wembley with my ten-year-old son from Lisbon. We loved the experience.
After Bradford went 4-0 down all the Bradford fans stood up and waved their pennants and clapped and cheered the team for something like fifteen straight minutes. I am sorry if it was boring and one-sided for the neutral but during those minutes I was able to share with my son the pleasure of supporting a team and thanking them for having done something remarkable. I had been worried things might end on a sour note but there was the absolute pleasure of supporting a team. It was one of those very, very special moments and my son and I will remember it for the rest of our lives (well we probably won't get to see Bradford in a final again!).
Sorry for the neutrals but a wonderful lesson on how supporting the team is more important than the result!

Wow, what a wonderful experience for you both David!
A lot of my friends and their families went and they said that the atmosphere was incredible and the Bradford fans were brilliant. It was a fantastic achievement to make the final and the fans were so grateful for the opportunity to be at a Wembley final. The Bantams can stand proud!

Personally, I would change the rules and for an incident like that would award a penalty (I know it sounds crazy, but then there is a soft goal but it is still 11-11 and does not turn the result into a farce). Similar to a few years ago when Arsenal played Barcelona in the final and I really wanted to see who was the best team. Seaman got sent off for bringing somebody down.... no idea who was the best team in Europe that year. In that case award a penalty and if saved, give a second attempt (like two serves).
Work out punishments that punish but still leave both teams with a chance to show they are the better team. Only send players off if there is a malicious intent to harm an opponent which could result in a serious injury - otherwise penalise but leave the crowd with the chance to see the best team win.
Also consider sin binning.... video referees... anything to prevent a match being discussed for a refereeing incident.

If only they could find a way of blending the steel they had in the past with the creativity they have in the present. As somebody living in Portugal, I am very glad that André Villas Boas has had another chance to show his worth in the Premier League - he clearly was in the wrong place at the wrong time at Chelsea, and seems to be creating that creative side and winning mentality, along with no rifts between players/coach at Tottenham.
And I am dying to know where José Mourinho will be next year!

You don't sell your best players. What he did was inexcusable but the club has issued a statement, he's been fined by the club and has apologised to Ivanovic. Accept the FA punishment and move on. Football reasons always take precedence. Suarez will be a Liverpool player next season unless he forces a move himself.

Mancini has been sacked. Top 3 clubs this season will all have new managers next season.
Anyone else missing the banter we used to get on this thread when J was around? Been dead since he went AWOL.
Can understand the Arabs being quiet today, but its been deserted for months.
Even a ribbing about the Jambos fate wouldn't be out of order. My gut feeling is that we'd be better taking the deduction for the season just finished, as i can't see us surviving any deduction next season with the squad we have (assuming we can come out of admin - dependant on how easy the UBIG liquidators are to deal with). I think the current crop of youngsters wouldn't be far away from being capable of getting back out of the first division.
Very little for anyone to get excited about this season.
Re Hearts, if the insolvency event is deemed to have been declared last week, then it should merit a points deduction that would relegate Hearts. Given that the season is now over, it seems incredible that they couldn't have waited until today...
Normal service for Hibs at Hampden, does anything less than 5-1 mean that Hearts are better than Celtic?
Sounds like the Comedy Channel missed a trick tonight
Be a great result if they can keep it that way
Sounds like the Comedy Channel missed a trick tonightI didn't know they showed The Magnificent 7...

Great (unexpected) result for Saints.
Belarus next up for the Perth Saints.
Cracking result again for St. Johnstone in Minsk last night. As much fun as I had in Athens, Wroclaw/Krakow and Moscow over the last 3 years, I'd swap all of them for actually having won one of those ties...
Anyway, the Scottish football season proper starts tonight!
Hooray!
Can't believe I waited 11 weeks for that.
Kenny Miller up front!
Might just wash my what's left if my hair.
Was always going to happen, it's his swansong.
Imagine letting Kenny Miller score...
...... and they've given it back!
We'd have won if we could defend set pieces. Hey ho...

Its only Hibs, even Hearts youth team can score against them. Hope Ross County keep up the good form, and give us a chance to catch up. And the Lithuanian authorities approve FoH bid.
We paid for not taking our chances today.
Wonder if Ian Black ever bet on the time of the first red card in a match?
Hearts heading for zero points a lot quicker than i thought they would.
Aside from that, has Derek McInnes found the hidden drawer where Jimmy Calderwood hid his tanning lotion?
Ouch!
Group of death for Celtic.
Anyone know why Leverkusen had to go in group A when Dortmund were still in the same pot?
Just saw this tweet, thought it was mildly amusing
Real fans delighted to see Bale performing tricks today, although they were disappointed not to see his triple inward pike with half twist.

The sooner Strachan is punted the better. This result can only help.
Who else is there though? Is Jackie looking for a job yet?
So, Saturday's stand-out player gets dropped...
Hard to believe we used to complain about not getting past the group stage at major tournaments. I'd give anything nowadays to draw with Iran or lose to Morocco.
Can't really understand how someone who previously turned their back on their country can possibly be welcomed back with open arms.
Wants to play in the big game. Fine, except it was the previous 2 where we could have done with him. The fact that Celtic will finish bottom of their CL group is totally irrelevant...
Nothing about our management's poor decisions surprises me.

If Andy feels he'd be compromised if he did go then that's sad. Jamie and his father will be at the match tonight.
Maybe Andy would rather stay at home and be depressed in private like I'm doing.
But his presence would apparently made the difference between losing 2-0 instead of 4-0.
It's probably wise Andy didn't give the Scotland team an inspirational pre-match talk after all. :big grin:

Any preference for next opponent? I'd guess Hamilton as ICT will have a fair bit of both momentum and confidence if they escape.
Yeah I was there, going to both legs of the final too. Personally I'd prefer Accies, chance to get shot of another plastic pitch, and also, I'm in Glasgow on the Saturday night as it is.

Celtic's first 5-0 home defeat since losing to Hearts in 1895. Can't find any reference to a supporter trying to kick any Hearts players in that one.
Can't say I'm surprised by result, PSG front line is scary, but they will get dragged over the coals for the pitch invasion.
Chris Sutton banging on about the financial gap obviously didn't see the irony.
Too close for comfort... But it's the hope that kills you!
What was the score, Hawkeye?
1-0, 89th minute own goal after playing against 10 men for well over an hour. If we win in Slovenia on Sunday, we'll be in the play-offs.
Is it true about Andy (Murray) doing football commentary on radio five live last night? The person, who told me, has often got things wrong.
The hope is over. Nerve-wracking final few minutes but probably got as much as the performance deserved.
Thoughts on Strachan's departure? Hawkeye?
Although disappointing to be out, I can't help feeling we were on an upward path and doing well considering the players at our disposal.
Early draw against Lithuania and possibly dropping points against England (although I'd have ripped your hand off for a draw beforehand) were what cost us.
Think we were heading in the right direction and can't see anyone else doing any better.
It was his intransigence that cost us. His failure to pick form players, particularly Lee Griffiths, early in the campaign, was critical.
In saying that, I would have been happy for him to continue if he hadn't come away with all the deflection "genetics" BS.
England produced a sensational performance to come from 2-0 down to thrash Spain 5-2 and win the Under-17 World Cup in India.

Nah. For 3 years now, we've had so many matches that we should have been motivated for and let big travelling supports down. Don't feel that this will be any different.
In fact, if it turns out to be on the Sunday due to television, then I'd need to move things around to go, and right now I doubt I would.
Another rotten Edinburgh derby today, summed up by the rotten goal, but I'd have to say that the better team won.

Et voilÃ*, a Sunday tie, on Sky, and a 4.30 kick off to boot. I realise it's not far to go, and even less so for me, but that's ridiculous.
Andy Robertson back in tangerine this afternoon. He's in brilliant form lately.
It's just been announced Sky and BT have paid £4.464bn for premier league matches from 2019 until 2022, which is more than they paid for it last time. Sky have four packages and will show 128 live games, while BT got one package and will show 32 live games.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Hibs won the cup
But Skacel won two!
The federal government of Canada have pledged $5m to Canada's bid for the 2026 FIFA men's world cup. Canada, Mexico and the USA have joined together against the bid for Morocco. Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal could be the cities chosen to host the matches if they win.

He's playing even better now than he was when I originally posted. Great to see. Sad irony that having waited for years for any young Scottish players that have the potential to be world class, we have two left backs in Robertson and Tierney.
They are both versatile enough that they can be (and have to be) shoe-horned into the same Scotland team at least.
Really hope Liverpool can beat Madrid in the Champions League final. Although Liverpool border on suicidal at the back sometimes, the current Madrid team are disappointing and have ridden their luck more than once this year.
Didn't realise until last week that Robertson should become only the second Scot to play in a final, although I knew that Paul Lambert was the only Scottish winner.
So, is Stevie G going to be the next Graeme Souness or the next John Barnes?
I'd say it's an astonishingly bad appointment, but nothing that The Rangers do surprises me any more with its ineptitude.
Can't help feeling there must be a big investment promised or why would he have gone there?
You down to Livi tonight Hawkeye?
Yup, more in hope than expectation.
Important day for AberdeenFC - happy Gothenburg Day! 35 years since our little club won the European Cup Winners Cup on a rainy night in Gothenburg against the mighty Real Madrid. I am struggling with the 35 years bit - how can it possibly be that long ago? Anyway, still to be celebrated :cheer::clap:
That means it's only 3 days until the 35th anniversary of the greatest day in my club's history, our never-to-be-repeated title win.
I remember both well. Although it will seem strange to you in those days I liked both of the "New Firm", if only to be different from everyone else around who supported one or other of the Glasgow teams, and it was good to see their dominance broken for a while. My (30+ years and counting) support for Hearts only came about at university.
So, is it 54 titles or 0 titles? Is it the same club or a new club? Or a can you pick and choose depending on the context?

It's been a chuckle filled day up Ibrox way...

Slight feeling of déjÃ* vu so may have said this before, but I'd have sworn this goal was from at least 25, if not 30 yards at the time lol.

Should have so many more caps for Scotland.
Gary Mackay's goal against Bulgaria to send RofI to Euro '88 was another that seemed further out at the time.
Add to that Stuart Beedie's winner against Aberdeen in the 1985 Scottish Cup semi at Tynecastle. I remember it being miles outside the box, not 12 yards...

Don't remember that one, some goal. Don't remember picture quality being as poor lol, but didn't have anything else to compare it too.
Dodgy VHS rip (not by me) from Dundee United: The Jim McLean Years.
Cracking game on BT Sport tonight
3 out of 4 Scottish sides through, hope the Dons can join them. I'm sure you'll join me in congratulating Hibs and The Rangers...
Always happy to see results which help improve our coefficient. Congratulating is maybe a touch too far though. Dons struggling now but never say never.
Hearts occupying the Champions League spot and Ayr in pole position for automatic promotion from the Championship. Can life get any better than this?

I don't know if I'm allowed to do this, but I'm hoping someone will help me with this small problem. I've been doing my mum's family tree and I've now found out that one of my cousins is Peter John de Savary, who once owned Millwall FC. Does anyone know of his half brothers, Christopher and Anthony?

Three games in, and nothing much has changed. Still laughing?
Scotland's Women National Team embarrass their male counterparts by qualifying for the World Cup.
Was everybody's favourite mod suffering at Hampden tonight?
I don't even think she's Scottish.
My days of going to watch Scotland are over, stupid pricing and stupid scheduling.
Our two best players play their club football on the left of a back four, so let's play a system where neither is in their normal position. Almost (but not quite) up there with 4-6-0!
And Charlie ******* Mulgrew.
Well we got the desired result, but very unconvinced by the formation. When Albania tried to break at speed there were gaps at left back, and when they tried to pressure us Robertson and Tierney were almost on top of each other. Better opposition would have a field day.
Not sure what the answer is, O'Donnell had a good game so not sure about putting Tierney at right back. Tierney and Souttar (or Charley) in the middle of a back four?
What a farcical decision from the SPFL. Have they even thought about what the Hearts fans are going to sit on if Rangers lose the first semi? (although given Delboy's record against the ugly sisters it probably won't matter)
What does it matter as long as the interests of the OF are well served? Know your place, east coast scum.
I genuinely believe that they are worried the Murrayfield semi would have gone better than the Hampden one, making their recent decision even harder to explain.
Murrayfield is a better stadium to view sport in as well as having better transportlinks.
Good choice Hawkeye?
Similar job required as he did at Hearts so you never know. You're too big a club to stay down for long.
If I'm honest, it's pretty uninspiring. I can't name anyone better though.
Getting the usual polar arguments of "his success at Hearts was down to Levein" "so why did Cathro fail then" "he's failed in England" "there's a reason he's been out of work for 10 months".
To be honest, I just want going to the football to seem less of the chore that it has become.
Think I'd have taken 25 points from first 10 games this season. Although George Burley got sacked for 26 at the same stage lol. Can't believe, looking back, that I (and many others) ever believed in Vlad!

Any happier with the appointment yet?
Ask me again a week on Friday.
