Best wishes for your hubby banskogirl , its not easy seeing someone go thru that !!

James , wow , you had a kidney transplant ? And now you are doing fine ? My uncle is currently on the waiting list for a kidney.

Yes I am keeping well, thanks! I had it almost 8 years ago now, in my case on was on the list for two and a half years. Best wishes to your uncle, I hope he doesn't have to wait too long.

Hope all goes well for your husband Banskogirl. My Mother-in-Law went through chemo recently and she coped really well so hope it's the same for your husband. :flowers:

I hope that your Uncle isn't waiting long for his kidney transplant ljs and James, its great to hear how well you have kept since you had yours. So many people having to cope with so much.

I haven't been around much recently due to illness. I'm okish now, just waiting to see a Consultant but my GP is pretty sure its nothing serious, so that's good news.

I've had quite a bit of time off work, which hasn't helped but I was really happy that I got back to work just in time for a visit from the Patron of the charity I work for. Sophie, The Countess of Wessex spent a lovely day with us yesterday and it really meant a lot to the people we look after (homeless, disadvantaged and disabled young adults). She's really nice and it was great to see the joy she brought to the faces of those in our care.

I love Sophie. She reminds me of the Duchess of Kent who I bumped into literally on one of the side streets going down from Princes Street in Edinburgh on my 21st birthday. They're both two of my fave royals. I think you are doing an amazing job!

:rolling: dinna be daft - they're out in the field - actually Mr HFW may have a job on his hands trying to catch the little beggars to administer the things that must be done for new lambs to ensure health and well being - they appear to have wings on their heels and are flying round the field a heck of a lot faster than he can .... despite the fact that he's on the quad bike

YUMMY!! Glad you said British ones. I once bought Cadbury's chocolate in the States - or thought so. Tasted it and spat it out. Read the label and it said something like made by Hersheys on licence to Cadbury!!! No wonder.......Hersheys is yuck IMHO.

Totally agree. I never touch American chocolate. They don't have a clue how to make decent chocolate. We get a few British Cadbury's choccies imported in the regular shops now (as opposed to the British import shops) such as flakes, creme eggs and buttons. The rest is made here and I don't go near it.

Hi everyone, hope you all had a good Easter. Haven't had much of a chance to post recently as had a bit of a week. I had taken the whole week off work to spend with the kids (school hols) and ended up spending almost 3 days of it without heating and electricity. The electrician thought he'd fixed the problem very late on Wednesday night but it all blew again and he had to come back yesterday. After taking up numerous floorboards upstairs and down, he eventually found the problem (at least we hope so) and so far we've had power restored since late yesterday evening. Thankfully, my in-laws only live a mile away so I was able to feed and bath the kids (and us) there.

Last night I was grumpy thinking about the fact that we'd had to forgo all the outings we'd planned over the past 3 days but then I felt quite ashamed when I thought how fortunate we actually are to have heating and power, things that we so easily take for granted. So, I'm enjoying my last day of the hols with a thankful heart instead. :)

Hey all - just a quick straw poll amongst the tennistas for a placement I am doing: who would be your most popular 10 Wimbledon Champs (men & women) ...

Lizzim
10-05-2012, 13:18
John McEnroe
Pete Sampras
Martina Navratilova
Steffi Graf
Goran Ivanisevic
Lleyton Hewitt
Martina Hingis
Pat Cash
Boris Becker
Jana Novotna

:)

KnightOwl
10-05-2012, 13:36
Wow! That took a bit of thinking, but I reckon probably...

01. Goran Ivanisevic
02. Lleyton Hewitt
03. Amelie Mauresmo
04. Stefan Edberg
05. Rafael Nadal
06. Andre Agassi
07. Petra Kvitova
08. Jimmy Connors
09. Steffi Graf
10. Martina Navratilova

Having said that, I think if you asked me the same question tomorrow I'd come up with roughly the same list of people, but the order might change! Very tricky ranking them...!

hfwardhouse
10-05-2012, 14:38
Mine would be ...

Bjorn Borg
John McEnroe
Pat Cash
Steffi Graf
Andre Agassi
Jana Novotna
Martina Navratilova
Chris Evert
Boris Becker
Goran Ivanisevic

In no particular order though ...

Golden Lady
10-05-2012, 16:03
I would choose;

1. John McEnroe
2. Andre Agassi
3. Boris Becker
4. Bjorn Borg
5. Steffi Graf
6. Martina Navratilova
7. Chris Evert
8. Jana Novotna
9. Rafael Nadal
10.Roger Federer

Gosh that's tricky - I'll have to have a think about it!

Linda
10-05-2012, 18:01
Depends what you mean by most popular. The ones we were most pleased for when they won? For me I was particularly pleased for the following (not in any particular order):

1. Rafa Nadal
2. Andre Agassi
3. Yvonne Goolagong (Cawley)
4. Jana Novotna
5. Pat Cash
6. Amelie Mauresmo

and as a Brit I suppose I should mention Virginia Wade.

But if you mean, who do I think is the greatest Wimbledon Champion? Then that is Martina Navratilova.

cazza99
10-05-2012, 19:58
Bjorn Borg
Rafael Nadal
Andre Agassi
Jana Novotna
Goran Ivanisovic
Martina Navratilova
John McEnroe
Pat Cash
Lleyton Hewitt
Steffi Graf

Jan
10-05-2012, 20:49
OK so here's my list. My reasons vary - some sentimental, some because I just loved watching them play, and one because I was there (Ashe!)

In no particular order:
Evonne Goolagong
Virginia Wade
Stefan Edberg
Steffi Graf
Martina Navratilova
Jana Novotna
Lindsey Davenport
Jimmy Connors
Arthur Ashe
Boris Becker

If you asked me again tomorrow the list might be a bit different, but there you go!

It is one of tennis head's subjective top 10s ... We had some good debate already over it. I will probably do a list of 14 - 7 of each and them some editor will make a decision on which two to drop for each list but I'll post up here tomoz.

Thanks again folks. Awesome

David is here as DaveArneRiise

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes for the walk - sorry, only just read them all :shamed: - it has been a busy week! The walk went well - although the rain came on as we walked from the supermarket carpark to the start at the sports centre so we were drookit before we even started rolleyes: .... never mind, we made it round and enjoyed a snifter of Prosecco courtesy of one of the restaurants on the route! We did it in an hour and 58 minutes so not too bad - legs were awfully sore after though - will definitely have to do some training before we do it all again next year! The money is still coming in, but we have raised nearly £800 between myself and Angie, my boss who came with me - absolutely delighted!

Well tomorrow is my eldest daughter's 14th Birthday and I have agreed to a party at home for 14 friends in the evening. I am up to my eyes sorting out decorations, food, cleaning (don't know why I'm bothering though as they're bound to make a mess) and I have had to move my youngest daughter out of the bedroom they share because 3 friends are staying for a sleepover after the party. My husband and I plus my 2 younger kids will be upstairs for the duration of the party (7-10 pm), watching DVD's and son watching the football. Hoping to get through it as painlessly as possible!

The Birthday Girl is so excited she can hardly contain herself :excited: makes all the effort worthwhile.

Yikes - good luck with that .... and shhh don't tell Minnie - we didn't have 14 friends round - just one last Saturday for a day out in town and a sleepover and 1 on her actual birthday on Monday at which point we all went out for a meal so the house wasn't disrupted too much .... round 2 is tomorrow as we're all off to Aberdeen to meet up with my brother and family - my sis in law and Minnie are birthday buddies so, much to bruv's disgust due to the sporting events of the weekend - football mainly, we're having a family get together in Aberdeen :red devil: .... after Sunday is over I have to get back on the diet wagon :shamed:

Hello,

I think this is the right topic to introduce myself =)

I've read (a little bit) this board (the old one) for 4 years without subscribing, but It's done now^^

I'm Cyrille, and I'm from Paris (yeah! I've just betrayed my country to support Andy lol. Not really like french players^^) I like watching tennis! To be honnest, at the beginning, I didn't like Andy, but I've learnt to know him more by reading his interviews, Twitter and so on... He's actually nice and funny =) I've met him once at Bercy.

My fav' players are: Marin Čilić, Ernests Gulbis, Andy Murray, Novak Đoković...

Sorry to write many things ;)

Hi^^ Thanks!

Last year (when I got opportunity to approach Andy when he played his double with Ross Hutchins) and 2008 (watching him play)

Well done! I went to Bercy a couple of years ago and had a good time. Didn't get near any players though. I got most of the GB players' autographs on my UJ flag at Davis Cup ties.

Hi Cyrille - it's fantastic when we get members from other countries, so it's lovely that you've joined us - I hope you enjoy it!

Obviously Andy Murray is top of my list of favourite players, but I support players from several other countries as well - France, Australia, Spain and USA among others - it's not a betrayal to support players whose game you enjoy :)

Honestly, it's great to watch Top 4 players to play Double, because when they play Single it automatically scheduled on Centre Court (they're the best). Andy's Double (on day 1) was supposedly scheduled on centre court, but due to the duration of matchs, his Double moved on Court 2. Court 1 and Court 2 are great, being an audience, you're very close to players, and your place isn't given, so you can sit where you want, it's better! Thanksfully Andy and Ross won to sign autographs lol

At Bercy, you get many opportunities to see players when they play on Court 1 and 2, and Bercy organized autograph sessions on the 2 first days (of course not with Andy, Rafa etc. because there would be many people, but with players like Verdasco, Troicki, Berdych...)
Sorry to write many things but I give some advices to get closer to players at Bercy (Paris) ;)

I don't know all british players, but lucky you!! I suppose you get also Andy's autograph?^^

EDIT:

- KnightOwl: Thanks =) I hate french's audience attitude (especially today!) The audience didn't respect Maria and Andy!
Who do you like among french players?^^

My poor husband had a bad night. He confronted a burglar trying to steal one of his mountain bikes from our garage. Cannot believe that the guy methodically stacked all the empty boxes that we have stored in there on the drive. Husband was watching tv in a room further away and only heard a noise when he went in the kitchen. He opened the internal door to the garage and there was this guy carefully trying to free the bike from the wall! Fortunately he ran as soon as he saw my husband but it could have been nasty. He called the police and didn't get to bed until 4 this morning. A nasty experience for him and he didn't wake me up bless him, just told me first thing this morning.

People like that don't seem to worry about whether there are people around or not. It's quite a few years ago now, but one summer when it was really hot we'd had the patio door open most of the day - even late into the evening it was still sweltering - round about 1 in the morning I was upstairs on the computer, with lights on there as well as downstairs and someone came in and stole my handbag off a chair in the dining room!

Admittedly, we didn't find out what had happened til the next morning, and for whatever reason we (or probably I) had forgotten to lock the patio door when I went to bed, but from the reports we got from the police and credit card companies, my credit card had been used in two local petrol stations well before I went to bed - so whoever it was came in while I was upstairs, with lights on all over the house!

It's a horrible thing to go through - we've been burgled four times over the years and although the last one was probably a good twelve years or more ago, I'm still paranoid when we leave the house for a few days

After a while we fitted bolts to the inside of the front door (burglary #3 happened when someone kicked it open in broad daylight!) and even now, when we go on holiday, Dave has to bolt that door then switch the alarm on and leave through the kitchen door! We then padlock the side gate so no-one can even get into the garden without coming over a neighbour's fence!

Am exhausted; 12 days away including much painting and decorating at Ma's as well as tennis at Nottingham and Edgbaston, 3 days tennis at Boodles and it's just all too much. I'll have to do the blog tomorrow (might have a few piccies to share by then!).

G'night y'all. It's well past Pimms o'clock.

Long time ago in Whiston Hospital, the book of records said Winnie's girl child Maureen was born on 22nd June. Hark now hear, the angels sing a new Murray fan born today and we will love for ever more our Andy Murray boy!

Hello! I haven't been on in ages because I've been so busy but I've come back to keep myself updated with
Wimbledon as I'm living in New York for the summer so I can't watch it...it's very strange, I can't remember ever not watching it at home :D Hope you're all well and enjoying watching Andy win! :)

Filed my copy of last night's tennis around 1am this morning.
Woke up at 3am when power came on after an apparent power cut.
Think we had another one about 2 hours later!
Left at 7:15 to park up before school and work on transcripts for my feature.
3 hours of shorthand and then home where I planned to have a doze and then try and do a new article for my editor about the Brits at Wimbledon, and my own blogs.
Opened a letter for the tax office where they removed all my personal allowances so I couldn't sleep and had to sort that out.
Then did the Kick On for Queen and Country piece, my Chalkdust pieces.
I. Need. bed!

Thanks for messages. I am rarely ill but since Tuesday haven't been feeling well. No wonder I was tearful re Andy on Court 1...I was obviously going down with some sort of bug. Wednesday I had a high temperature, a runny nose and a sore throat. Spent all day yesterday in bed. Going back to bed now and will get up for Andy's match.
