Welcome Sophia and welcome back Reef!
What's this 'old forum' thing? The only one on andymurray.com, or did you guys have your own forum before this one? :D Anyway, I've been following Murray ever since Wimbledon 2005/2006 (I was just a little late for Tim!) which was around the time I started to become interested in tennis.
Hopefully I won't embarrass myself here, and with a long summer ahead of me (just left Sixth Form), and this will be one of many posts!
:welcome: to the forum David.

Hello. Arrived home at 11.45 last night and spent the whole day in bed with a cough and cold. I suppose sitting in alternate hot sunshine and then pouring, torrential rain will have had something to do with it. Thank God I didn't queue...probably be on a drip now.

Hello Berkshiregirl - I remember you from the previous forum.
Great to have you back with us again!!!
:welcome:
Andy's management opted to close down the official forums; preferring to focus their efforts and investment on the official AndyMurray.com website (just revamped) and Facebook pages for Andy and Jamie. A bunch of us (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?155-The-Andy-Murray-Fan-Forum&p=1294&viewfull=1#post1294) wanted a Murray forum to continue so we set up this alternative and we're happy to say that the majority of those who were on the previous versions have joined us.

I've just got back from a wonderful weekend in Madrid. When I get time I'll post a bit about it along with my pics (have we got a holiday thread?). I loved Madrid. I took about 500 pics (approx 100 of which were of Rafa :rolling:).
Welcome back Linda! Glad you had a goodtime!

Hope to have internet, but might not have time to keep up much.

Back from hols after a fortnight away in Vancouver Island, Vancouver and Whistler. Didn't even look at a computer. Happy to be back in time to enjoy the Olympics. Really sad to hear Rafa's out, though. Saw a black bear in a car park one day. It ran away pretty quickly, glad to report. Millions of Aussie, British and South African students working in Whistler. Some of the 2010 Olympic things were still up I noticed. I guess they're going to dine out on that for a long time to come.

Gradually getting caught up with emails/washing/tennis news etc - and of course had a rather late night watching the Opening Ceremony last night!

I've gone slightly mad today. For ages I've wanted to move but needed to get my house into order before I could put it on the market. Today I noticed an ad for the last 3 houses on a nearby new estate of Barratt homes, saying that they will take your property in part exchange. So I went and viewed a house and put down my £99 to secure it. Of course it will all depend on whether they offer me enough for my house - if they don't then I'll have lost the £99. So I'll be having an agent round to view it this week - and it is an absolute tip :shamed: But the thought of having a new house with no problems like the holes in the roof of both the house and the garage is very tempting.

Oh Linda :) this is so exciting! I fully empathise with the old house problems, there's only so much you can do! We have lots of damp corners and other things but no one else here even want to move from our view of the sea.........even without going into whether we could or could not afford it! Praying you get good news!
Well, of course that is the downside - at the moment I am almost on the beach, and at the new house I will be a mile and a half inland - although that might make my house insurance cheaper!

Had such a tussle this morning with my 2 young teenage kids. Pouring with rain outside yet they start to go out the door with no coat, just school jumpers!! When asked where their raincoats were, one replied "Won't ever where my raincoat for school Mum', the other one replied "It's in my bag" So I have 1 fashion conscious daughter who thinks it's totally uncool to wear a raincoat and would rather get wet and a son who would rather get wet because he can't be bothered to get it out of his bag! They even stepped out of the door and claimed it wasn't raining but it clearly was! The start of many a battle I fear! Thank goodness my 6 year old was more compliant with her raincoat this morning or perhaps she's just smarter ;)

Well even if you get them to wear them till they're out of your sight I'm afraid that's likely to be the extent of it! My boys went to school in shirt sleeves even in the depths of winter - rarely caught a cold and are now 27 and 30 years old - so they survived. Sometimes it's best to pick your battles........
sounds like pretty normal teenage behaviour GL  and like pabbers said , best to pick your battles .
One day you will be wishing you could see them out the door for school , time goes by so quickly !!!
Golden Lady
20-09-2012, 16:37
Thank you Pabbers and ljs. Yes, perhaps your right and it isn't worth getting so worked up about and maybe I should, as Pabbers says, pick my battles more wisely otherwise everything becomes one! I find the mornings and getting them out of the door quite stressful, so the slightest thing can become an issue it's true.
ljs, I understand what you are saying. These years go so fast and before I know it, they'll both be gone and I'll be wishing I could have a go at them about their raincoats!

Aw GL :grouphug: I'm lucky, my teen wears a coat - she's like her mum and likes to be warm .... the teen at the end of the road who catches the bus with my daughter doesn't though! She stands and shivers and says she's cold and I just say well it's only 4 degrees today (as it was this morning) and she says oh .... last week the bus was really late cos it had a technical problem before it left the bus depot and apparently she did go back in for a jacket after I phoned to say it would be at least 10 minutes before it was there

Yes it's definitely a 'teenage' thing. I'm having to learn to bite my tongue with mine as there have been too many mornings where they've gone out the door feeling annoyed with me for nagging and the ill feeling it's caused has just not been worth it for any of us. The fact that they wore their coats today cos the weather was so bad gives me hope for the winter

I am moving house on Thursday. But because it is a new house, they have to send out an engineer. The first available date for an engineer to come is 16th November! When I will be away anyway, so it will have to be even later. So I will be without phone and broadband for at least two months.
I will be able to check my emails at work, but that is only on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Quite a few of you have my mobile number. I also receive tweets if they start @Linda4tennis (I don't have a smartphone but they arrive as texts).
No tennis watching for me for a couple of months then

Contracts are for a lengthy period but there will be some Pay as you go deals. For instance this link from T mobile give info on a Pay Per day option Mobile Broadband (http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-broadband/usb-stick/)
Can't you get PAYG on mobile broadband?
But I would have to buy something to use it on. I use a desktop computer at home, and I have a basic mobile phone. I don't possess anything on which I could have mobile PAYG.

You simply insert the USB stick into a laptop or PC to access the internet.
Yes, you should be able to have PAYG mobile broadband for a short period. Three used to do it when I investigated a while back.

It's just a stick like a memory stick Linda so you'd be able to use it in the USB port on the PC - should work fine provided you have a good mobile signal at the house of course ....
The USB stick sounds like a plan. Linda - I hadn't thought of it. Wonder if it's the same as a dongle? I'd go completely loopy without the internet for 2 months. Good luck with the move.

ye might be worth checking various friends & relatives phones when they come to visit see which has the best signal (tho be careful bars on the phone showing signal strength arnt universal)

I'm just making lunch now. It's my niece's 30th so we're having a b-day thing for her too. We made her strawberry puree-filled chocolate cupcakes and the kids decorated them with fondant flowers and I'm going to arrange them on a big tray to spell out 30.
Anyway, hope you're enjoying yourself!!!

We had such a great time , only down thing was our youngest son wasnt here , as hes in Calgary , but we all gathered around the computer and skyped with him which was nice , but not as good as being able to get my arms around him :(
School holidays coming up in my area. so off to, hopefully, sunny Florida for couple of weeks. Getting a new phone for my birthday so hopefully will be able to follow Andy's exploits.

Had a lovely visit to Dunblane. Left home at 9 am Thursday and arrived at the Dunblane Hilton around 4.30. Long day travelling with Glasgow train late and then delayed at Carlisle. So we shelved our plans for a tour that afternoon and just chilled in the bedroom. Each of us luxuriated in a lovely bubbly hot bath and then rested on the bed until we went down for dinner.:yak: The next day was beautiful...a cloudless sky for most of the day.:) Visited Andy's gold post box, the Cathedral, walked down Main Street, over the bridge. Had lunch in the Dunblane Hotel where they were getting ready to celebrate Halloween.:cauldron: Met some lovely people in shops and just out and about. Everyone was very friendly and pleased that it was Andy who had brought us to their town (city). A lovely place to live....and to visit. So glad I made it at last.:clap: Arrived home last night around 9.30.... exhausted!!

Dunblane is a lovely wee place - it's not very big Linda but it's always had a posh hotel - it used to be called Dunblane Hydro but must have been bought over by Hilton at some point - t'was always a fancy place to stay! I've never been in Dunblane till the other week when we called in past to get our photos taken with the letterbox! We will definitely go back and explore properly sometime!

It is a lovely hotel. There are many framed photos lining walls of numerous Scottish actors and other famous Scots. Couldn't find any of Andy until we went into the cocktail lounge for drinks before dinner. I asked the barman and he showed me where there was a large frame with different pictures of Andy. Was told that he had signed it when he visited.:clap: About dinner....the restaurant has a Celebrity chef called Nick Nairn though he wasn't there on Thursday. He was probably being a celebrity somewhere else.;) We ordered our meal. We both had soup to start then I ordered sirloin steak and Supergramps asked for beef. SG told me that I probably shouldn't choose sirloin as he knows I'm not a big meat eater and even less a steak eater unless it's fillet. But I ordered it and wished I hadn't. It was tough, The middle was ok but by the time I got to that it was cold as the plates weren't hot when the meals were brought out. My green beans were also not cooked properly. When asked by the waitress was the meal all right I answered no and listed my complaints. She took my meal to the kitchen and returned to tell me that what was on my plate was fine. I said yes, that is what I said but it's now cold.:doh: I asked her if I could speak to the chef and the poor girl looked terrified. I then said to her "You know, I could be a secret diner" and she agreed.:shades: She then suggested that I speak to the restaurant manager. A charming young woman came over and listened to my complaints and eventually said that my main course would not be charged and that the bottle of wine we had would also be free. All this time Supergramps had sat in silence...he hates complaining. I was looking forward to a pudding but we'd been put off so we left the restaurant taking our wine to the bar.
Sorry you didn't have a nice meal, SG :grouphug: I'm the same as you with steak - I rarely eat it, and when I do I will only have the fillet, because if I come across the tiniest bit of fat or gristle it puts me off completely.

'evening all.
I'm swinging into action on my walking sticks ...
Just had my other knee replaced (last Thursday) and it seems to be working rather well.
At least I hope that's the reason they chucked me out of hospital after only 3 days ... but it could have been night-time raves at the HIP joint just along from the nurses station.
:boogie:
Anyway, that's me double-bionic! Glad to say this knee has responded and got working much quicker than t'other one (which was in a right old mess). I'm just off to sort out the stash of painkillers, have supper and settle down ready for Downton Abbey.
Nice timing to be confined to barracks 'cos I can watch all of the Paris Masters and the WTF with a clear conscience. Just wish I'd been able to get down to the O2 to meet up with a few peeps.

Linda , 16 is a bit old to go out , but even teenagers like candy .
One year when my youngest was about 10 , he didnt have anyone to go out with , so I put on a mask and went with him , and I got a whole pillowcase full of candy . No one on my street knew it was me

Oh man! I'm so jealous. I think what the problem with us is the fact we live in a circle and quite a few houses in the circle keep all their lights off so it puts the kids off from coming into it. Too bad. Humbugs to my neighbours.
oh I hate that RL , we have those sour pusses on our street too .
you'll have to really decorate your house next year , you know the graveyard , flashing lights, the whole bit
that'll bring them in
RoastLamb
01-11-2012, 17:54
Well my daughter had a great time decorating the front garden and it was nice and bright with pumpkin lights, fake and real. But it's not enough as we're at the top of the circle. Maybe what we need to do is decorate the front of the street with large neon arrows pointing to my house (and the two neighbours on either side of me).
that'd work  but youd better make sure you give out something really good ;)

Aren't they ALL marketing ploys? To get the cash tills ka-chinging.
ljs, I went to PriceCostco at the beginning of October and they had Christmas music. :grrr:
I'm amazed at how many trick or treaters some of you get! At our last house we didn't get any at all for the last few years. I expected some here as there are a lot of children on the estate. We got four pairs of kids - 3 pairs with their mums, and one pair of older girls on their own. I was giving them all lollies so I've got some left over. Did I tell you that we had a really nice Hallowe'en party for the children at our church on Saturday? And last night we had a modern style eucharist for All Saints Day, mainly for the youth group, followed by fireworks. The Vicar said that it's much better to have the fireworks to celebrate All Saints rather than on the traditional Guy Fawkes Day, as nowadays we wouldn't want to celebrate the times when Catholics and Protestants were killing each other! (I never thought of Fireworks Night being about that, but he has a point.)
I agree that it's far too early for Christmas decorations - I never put mine up until a couple of days before Christmas, and I don't put any outside. Not sure where I will put the decorations this year - the last few years I just put them in the living room, but here we have an open plan family room/dining area downstairs, my sitting room on the first floor and Caz & Sean's sitting room on the top floor.
Sallydaisy
02-11-2012, 12:07
and I don't put any outside. Not sure where I will put the decorations this year -
Plant a fir tree (one that will not grow above 6' ...) in the garden where it can be viewed from the main living area of the house. Since it's a living thing it'll be there all year round rather than need storing (or shed needles inside your new home!).
Then decorate it with big bows of red ribbon and some baubles and some outside lights if you can sort that out.
It's probably not a good idea to muck up new plaster by sticking too many Xmas paper chains or other decorations on it so perhaps choose one 'communal' area to focus on e.g. the dining area or hallway to make 'festive'. Seems to me that the new style of house would suit something more simple anyway?
You and Caz/Sean will have personal Xmas cards to 'dec' your own sitting rooms.
... and stick a big lit-up Santa figure on the porch ...
;)
I only have a tiny back garden and no front garden so I won't be planting any trees! I don't think we're allowed to anyway. Otherwise I agree with your ideas (except the big lit-up Santa ;))!

We don't do outdoor decorations but so many houses do. I have two trees - a real one and a fake one. The fake one goes into the living room and is gold/red theme. The real one goes into the hallway next to the stairs and is white/silver theme. I don't like to go overboard but so many Cdns really do. It's one of the things I noticed when I moved over here - how OOT some people go.
I have a big wreath with lights that I put up in the front window , and sometimes we light the trees outside up . Decorate the mantle with garland and lights and then the tree of course , and LOTS of candles .
I do love Christmas time , but just not until December :)

Around the house I have Christmas candles/ornaments/nativity sets + Christmas table cloths on side tables. We have a big tree which we put up early December also. Just love my house at Christmas!!

Hi Linda, I just looked at the home page on VB with all the photos of Manacor and Porto Cristo. How fabulous!!! I really must go there when I get a chance. I can't wait to see your photos.
It was lovely. We stayed in the old part of Palma, near the cathedral, and it is just like a medieval arab city. The streets are very narrow and the houses have enclosed balconies just like in my favourite book (which of course is the next one for the book club). We were in a typical old house. I stood on one of the enclosed balconies and looked each way down the street just like the ladies in the book who weren't allowed out and that was their only view of the world.
