Yayyyy!!! Had to watch a recording of Laura's match and discovered the 3rd set of Dan's followed on after so got to see some of his tennis after all.

I love him to bits. He's edgy, a one off, his own person and has tennis that makes my spine tingle in the same way that Andy's does. I think he has everything and maybe more than Andy - he's naturally fearless, aggressive, skilled, varied and volleys to great effect. He also has great self belief which is often lacking in players - he showed that when he said he was better than some of the players selected over him for DC (sounded cheeky/arrogant but IMHO was just a fact). Then of course he WAS selected and look what he's done - twice! Give him Andy's work ethic and I'd just love to see what he can do. Wouldn't it be great to have 2 Brits in the running at the men's events? Still, mustn't get ahead of myself. He may lapse into his old ways. Just hoping a taste of what could be will spur him on.

Very well said Pabbers! I agree with every word. He is soooo exciting to watch isn't he? I have followed his progress closely for the past couple of years after those awesome DC performances and it is fantastic to see his hard work of late paying off. I feel confident watching him .... he knows he can win!

He's a "brummie" too (from Birmingham!) which is an added bonus for me, having spent most of my adult life there. I'm back in Worcestershire now but married to a "brummie" and still work in Birmingham.

Watched all of Dan's match (Laura was on in lounge & I popped in at changeovers). I am a big fan of Evo having watched him play Davis Cup. I was on the edge of my seat. He has some quite sublime shots and a great serve and I just love his personality. He has confidence in his own ability and if this spurs him on to knuckle down and really work then who knows what he can do. Rusedski obviously has faith in him and Andy and Leon are very supportive so all I can add is....Go Evo!!:thumbup::GBflag:

I think he is nervous. For example, he had two BPs in Tomic's last service game. He did not take them - perhaps the "trying too hard of the underdog", then went 0-40 on his own serve. He recovered to 30-40, then was broken.
A case of being punished after not taking his chances perhaps. Pity because Tomic can hit very wildly at times.

Yes I agree. Sometimes it seems as if Bernard's heart is not really in the game. When he lost last night, he looked like he couldn't care less but perhaps that was for show and deep down he cared a great deal. You just can't really tell.

As for Dan the Man, hats off and huge congrats!!!!! He showed real spirit and that he has what it takes if he really really wants it badly enough! Let's hope he does and that he continues in that vain.

Loving the friendly banter surrounding 'Nipplegate' too. Dan has a fantastic role model in Andy, how wonderful must that be!

Absolutely amazing Mr Evans. Think I saw that the R2 win will take him up to around 150 in the next rankings. How fantastic to have another British man coming through - sections of the English media will love having an Englishman to cheer, even if he's still not quite the Home County set :) Brilliant achievement, would love to see him get through against Robredo but I think it might be a challenge too far this time. But you never know and Evo's confidence must be sky high right now. Loving how much Andy is encouraging him too, that's our boy :)

I think he did believe in the first set, just, as he said in his interview, got drawn into playing Tomic's game instead of his own. Having seen Dan and what he can do, twice at DC it's clear he has huge amounts of self belief and buckets of talent but not in any arrogant way. He's punched above his weight before now and so I don't really feel this is something like the Stakhovsky win over Fed at Wimbly. Dan has all the skills to beat the top players and now that he is reaping the benefit of his new leaf and recent hard work, hopefully he'll be encouraged to continue down that route. Equally if Dan had knuckled down a bit sooner I genuinely believe we could have had (and may yet have) 2 British men at the top of the game.

These 2 wins should see him rise to around 150 in the rankings. Beat Robredo and it would be 20-25 places higher than that. Not that its going to happen given it could be Federer in his way (unless British tennis is really changed beyond belief) but two more wins would see him up to around 80 as the rise in points at slams as you progress becomes massive for those at the lower end of the rankings - its 360 points for winning 4 rounds but Dan only started the tournament with 269 points from his 18 counting events.

Each round is a different test of where he is at the moment. R1 - the possibility of a shock result R2 - making sure it is not a fluke and beating a talented but inconsistent top player; R3 - having to play someone whose level will stay at a high level throughout the five sets and so Dan having to play at that level to win through in his sixth match at Flushing Meadow.
Whatever the result, the important thing is it makes Dan want to move forward and play well week in, week out. Then he will see the rewards as he cracks the top 100 and can get into 250 tournaments, make slam main round draws, etc, etc.
