I wholeheartedly agree, Dan varied his shots and Dom was never confident or on top in that first set, even with 5 setpoints, he still nervously lost 4 of them. If Dan had won that set, I think Dom would have struggled, his memories of Sydney were definitely on his mind

Looking at it again I think he was making a joke about his own frailties on clay. After Russell Fuller reported how well Aliaz was doing Dan said "if only he could play DC" and lots of laughing smilies. Given Dan's loss in last DC, I think that was more what it was about than a dig at Aliaz .... BUT that's not really how it came across and that's the problem with the written word ...

Dan is always joking around, he's not a nasty person, so it's all very unfortunate. I do realise that I'm a bit biased ;) but I would be very surprised if he was purposely being nasty.

Aljaz has been British Number Two. Once Aljaz had his change of nationality confirmed in 2015, he went straight to Number Two even though he could not play the Davis Cup. I knew I had read about it somewhere as remember thinking that he had knocked poor Wardy off the number two spot, which I wasn't happy about for James sake, but that's how it works.

As you say Caro, we can all have an opinion and perhaps Dan is just more verbal with his than others are. I didn't really like Dan's tweet but we can't pretend we'd all be happy if we worked hard in our job and someone stepped in above us without climbing our 'ladder'. I'm taking nothing away from Aljas being a nice guy or from the other's liking him. I don't think it's personal but with Dan what you see is what you get :) As Lynne mentioned, Wardy lost his place as No.2. I also must say I always like Greg but I remember every time he was playing my dad would remind me he wasn't British!

Dan needs to give it a rest now, he's said his piece. I'm not saying he's a nasty guy or means any harm, but that doesn't mean that he isn't being offensive to/about Aljaz. Dan is perfectly entitled to his views but commenting about how Aljaz sees himself is overstepping the mark - Aljaz has *chosen* to make the UK his home, and fought tooth and nail to represent GB, so Aljaz is entitled to consider himself whatever he likes, including British.
