JAMES4578
26-06-2018, 15:10
A comfortable win for Johanna 6-1, 6-3-well done! Played pretty well , tough test against Caroline Wozniacki coming up.

26-06-2018, 15:22
Solid win for Jo, can she get past bigger names like last year on grass
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 13:34
Johanna V Caroline up shortly as Kerber's match on centre was very quick( Angie v Collins moved to replace Kvitova v Radwanska as Petra pulled out)
I've just put the TV on and found Caroline Wozniacki had just broken Jo's serve to make it 3 - 3 in the first set.
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 14:12
Great dropper for Jo to break for 2nd time, up 4-3.
Break point for Wozniacki.
Break point for Wozniacki.
Second break point for Wozniacki.
Jo wins the first set 6 - 4.
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 14:28
Just a few edgy moments but Jo holds firm to take first set,Wozniacki's level may improve though so has to keep focus.
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 14:49
Caroline stepping up and a few more errors from Johanna, needs to try and stem the tide in Wozniacki's favour . At least easy hold for 1-3
Break point for Wozniacki.
She breaks to make it 1 - 5.
After saving three set points, Jo has a break point.
Another set point for Wozniacki.
Fifth set point for Wozniacki.
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 15:04
Caroline got the momentum quickly and no way back for Jo in 2nd, Had bp but Wozniacki takes set 6-1. Will be tough but can hopefully start well in decider.
Jo loses the second set 1 - 6.
Jo saves a break point to win the first game of the third set.
Poor Jo, she really is struggling. 1:2 Wozniacki isn’t taking any prisoners.
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 15:21
Looks like match may be starting to get away from Konta now, not great game and Wozniacki applies pressure to break for 2-1, come on!
Two break back points for Jo.
Another break back point for Jo.
Fourth break back point for Jo.
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 15:30
Jo coming up with great play there to break back, keep it going!
Two break points for Wozniacki.
She breaks as Jo double faults.
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 15:33
oh no double fault at end to drop serve again , going to be tough.
Jo survives four break points to make it 3 - 4.
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 15:47
Well played Jo saving 4 bps and 0-40 down at one point, needs to try and break here though.
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 15:50
Chance missed , particularly on that 30 all point- could be decisive.
JAMES4578
27-06-2018, 15:52
Solid game to force Wozniacki to try and serve it out, cannot afford loose points though. Unfortunately could not do enough and Caroline takes it 6-4 in decider. Certainly Wozniacki worked it out after strong start from Konta who could not quite maintain level required. May have been different last year, hopefully though Konta can take some confidence going in to Wimbledon.
Wozniacki wins the match 4 - 6, 6 - 1, 6 - 3.
JAMES4578
03-07-2018, 11:23
Has been tested by Vikhlyantseva but finally breaks for 6-5 and closes set out, come on! After seemingly being in control of 2nd Johanna pegged back and had to save sp's- now into TB!
Tie break in the second set.
Vikhlyantseva has just saved four match points.
Jo does a double fault on her fifth match point.
Jo wins 7 - 5, 7- 6 (9 - 7).
JAMES4578
03-07-2018, 12:28
Konta finally takes a tricky encounter, was 6-2 up in breaker but eventually takes it 9-7. Got a bit tense times but well done on the win!
she kept her cool & finally got the win... Well Done Johanna!!!

04-07-2018, 08:32
Well done Jo. Had the pleasure of being there to watch. Took the first set for Jo to find her length on the baseline - maybe the wind made it tricky. Once she got into her stride she played well
Jo loses the first set against Cibulkova 3 - 6.
JAMES4578
05-07-2018, 15:28
Thought it might be tricky, hopefully Jo can battle back and take it to decider! Konta down break in 2nd too now but holds for 2-3, come on!
Two match points for Cibulkova.
Third match point for Cibulkova.
Fourth match point for Cibulkova.
Jo loses the match 3 - 6, 4 - 6.
JAMES4578
05-07-2018, 16:20
Unfortunately Johanna out, saved 4 mps on own serve but could not put Cibulkova under pressure at the end. Domi certainly played very well and deserved the win but Konta just a bit disappointing and now the ranking will plummet. Didn't expect a great run really but hoped she'd possibly be in last 16. oh well, it's back to drawing board.

Konta got it tough in San Jose, drawn against Serena Williams the 6th seed in 1st round!
Konta got it tough in San Jose, drawn against Serena Williams the 6th seed in 1st round!
Tough - pah 6:0, 6:1 ............... (To Jo). Well done.
Kenin ranked 68 next.
Well done Johanna - great stuff :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Well done, Jo! A strange score line though. Was Serena injured or play extremely badly? Did Jo play extraordinarily well? Or was it a mixture of both?
Josephine
01-08-2018, 08:24
With a scoreline like that clear that Serena wasn't playing very well.
JAMES4578
01-08-2018, 09:05
Well done Johanna on the crushing win! A confidence booster after difficult season, however clearly Serena was out of sorts even if Konta on form. http://www.wtatennis.com/news/konta-soars-through-serena-clash-san-jose
Well done Jo. Hope this will be a boost to her confidence going into the US Open.:bravo:

Jo playing in Montreal against Ostapenko - Jo leads 3 - 0
JAMES4578
07-08-2018, 16:18
Unfortunately Jo pegged back and loses breaker, hopefully not decisive.

Match did not resume and to be completed today, however Johanna seems in a good position-hopefully keeps it going -impressive against Vika(even if Azarenka not had best results lately)

You could see her on court 3 times today - but her doubles will be very late after her next singles.
Jo completes her match vs Azarenka, winning 6-3 6-1 :clap:
Jo and her partner have scratched from the doubles
Not surprised, it's a bit much to play three matches in one day!
Well done Jo.

Svitolina took the second 6-4.
And with it the match by 6'3, 6'4. Shame for Jo.
JAMES4578
09-08-2018, 23:44
Unfortunately Johanna couldn't put Svitolina under enough pressure to extend it, only 40% of first serves in 1st.
Lost against Sabalenka in R1 of Cincinnati. Not good.
suttontennis
14-08-2018, 07:21
The loss against Sabalenka, who is a player in good form, is no more reflective of Jo's form than the wins against Ostapenko ( in a slump), or Serena (clearly not up for the game that day). So where is Jo's form ? I think she's no further in than earlier this season, struggling for consistency
JAMES4578
14-08-2018, 09:07
Johanna had some unfortunate errors the 3rd even though just one break, going down 6-4 and a disappointment. She had lead by a set and 3-1 but could not capitalise, throughout the match she faced 17 break points, dropping serve 4 times. Sabalenka though with some good results lately, Eastbourne finalist and reversal of that result with a win over Wozniacki in Montreal.
Johanna playing with Ostapenko in doubles - leading 6-1, 4-0 - watching on Bet365
A good win for Johanna and Jelena - 6 -1, 6 - 0 :yahoo:

Yes it really is the luck of the draw. Andy gets the only player in the main draw ranked lower than him, Jo gets a player in the top 10, this is after getting Cibulkova in the 2nd round at Wimbledon due to Serena getting seeded.
Johanna on court against Caroline Garcia.
Loses the first set 6:2. A tough opening match for her.
JAMES4578
28-08-2018, 19:53
Garcia making it tough for Johanna, hopefully can get something going in 2nd.
Yes, I would be astonished if she won this.
JAMES4578
28-08-2018, 20:20
More of same in 2nd as Garcia goes up 4-1, Caroline just dictating and pace too much for Konta who is unable to get on front foot. Garcia takes it 6-2,6-2 and showing some great form with a strong serving display, however not Jo's best performance and fighting spirit not quite there.

another first round defeat for Jo, to Barty in Wuhan. 2 close sets. I watched the first and Jo played really well, until the 12th game when serving to go into a breaker. She played a couple of bad points and the set was gone. I suppose when you are struggling for wins you get difficult 1st round draws like Barty. Hopefully Jo won't get too discouraged. She just needs a couple of good weeks.
JAMES4578
24-09-2018, 10:49
Certainly Barty can be a challenge but disappointing Johanna not stepping up on the big points.

Certainly Barty can be a challenge but disappointing Johanna not stepping up on the big points.
Certainly it seems to be the big points where Jo loses the trust in her game. But she's not the first to face disappointment, even now if you look at the rankings and results Vandeweghe is suffering a similar drop, and Ostapenko is in a run of bad form.
Another first round exit in Beijing. Lost in 3 sets to Goerges.

Jo has dumped her coach Michael Joyce - hooray! (Source Daily Mail - it must be true!)
I'm not surprised, as she didn't do very well when they were together.
suttontennis
10-10-2018, 12:31
It's been coming. I can't say whether MJ has been responsible for the downslide in her performance, I think that was happening anyway and maybe he's prevented her from slipping further ? However, having seen her approach to matches, which is 'go for everything', and her general play, it seems that her serve isn't as big a weapon, her court sense is lacking, and her volleying has got worse. All things a coach could and should help improve. And, crucially, she seems 'lost' on court. Maybe she needs to work with some-one she connects with better.

Well done to Jo in getting to her second WTA semi final for this year. It looks like changing her coach to Dimtri Zavialoff was an excellent idea, as I hated to think she wouldn't be in the top 50 at the end of this year.

Zverev/Chardy has gone to a fifth.
Surely Jo's match will be held over till tomorrow now.
Apparently Jo's match being moved to Court 3....
edit...or possibly not, as the seagulls have made rather a mess on the court....
Bit of a mess all round I think sure the commenrater has just said Jo moved to court three but dont hold me to that the way things are!
Given that Zverev v. Chardy has just finished, they are as well to leave them on MCA surely?

Awesome effort by Jo  such as shame it was played in front of such an understandably small crowd, but the diehards were rewarded with a fantastic match. Worthy of a final. So galling that there was only 3 points in it, Jo serving second in the decider made it that bit tougher for her. Hope Jo can find that kind of form for Fed Cup in a few week :peace:
I had arranged to meet friends today. Thought I'd be ok going in the afternoon as I was sure there would be no tennis. On returning home, what a surprise I got when I boarded the train about 15.50, checked the scores and found there was still live tennis going on! Courtesy of the train company's wifi, I was able to watch the rest of Jo's match on my phone. Going by that last 30 mins or so, what a match that must have been. I haven't seen Jo play that well for a while. Seems ridiculous though to play tennis in what amounts to the middle of the night. That is the other extreme from Wimbledon when play must stop at 11pm.
