Well done Jo, we have a British winner even without Andy playing :GBflag::GBflag:
that's the way to do it, 6-4, 6-3, caroline dropped serve, so jo was spared having to serve it out
Well done Jo, enjoyed the match.

Fabulous and mature performance from Jo to take Miami, awesome! Certainly the more aggressive and assertive player and a deserving winner, a few nerves along the way but to be expected! Caroline couldn't exert enough sustained pressure despite her experience. Hopefully will be major milestone to take Johanna to the next level.:cheer::cheer::cheer::clap::clap:
Oh wow!! Well done Jo!! That is a fantastic win!! Could only follow on live scores but she obviously played well and held her nerve. Some good news from Miami at last. Brava Jo! :GBflag::clap::clap::trophy:

Jo does not have too much time to celebrate, she will be moving up the eastern us to Charleston for their pr470 tournament and will be second seed. The draw should be out anytime
What a convincing win - Jo held her nerve and won against a very much more experienced opponent. Well done, Jo!! I really hope this is the start of something big for her.

Don't forget... Halep was serving for the match against Konta!
Konta really pulled some great fightbacks off this week.
When I think back to the first round of Miami where all the brits seemed to lose within the space of about an hour... I thought to myself - well, jo, it's all down to you now! And so it was - didn't she deliver??!!
Anne Keothavong will be delighted too! This must surely up the confidence level of the Fed Cup team??

Brilliant effort! Now I need to get my head round the WTA rankings system which seems very different to the ATP. Any experts out there? I know Jo didn't have a great clay season last year, but how far up the rankings can she go between now and Wimbledon?
Big congrats to Johanna , so impressed with her

Just read the BBC's lead article on Jo targeting No.1, in it they include quotes from Judy Murray - "mother of Andy"! Can't believe there can be many folk don't already know who Judy is without the Andy link!
I know, AllyB. I remember someone calling her 'the mother of British Andy Murray and Scottish Jamie Murray'.
After the match, I put the TV on and found the sports reporter on BBC news 24 was talking about the match. He then had to talk to Russell Fuller about it. This morning, Mr Fuller was on radio five live saying the same thing and he did it again on breakfast news.

If she makes the QF's this week and Wozniacki doesn't go a round further than her, she will take the Number 1 spot in the Race.
Jo has withdrawn:
"Volvo Car Open @VolvoCarOpen 17m17 minutes ago

something that struck me during the prize giving ceremony, the MC kept calling Jo 'Yohanna' . Is it pronounced like that, or the traditional 'johanna'. Given that she's known as Jo, I thought the latter. Or doesn't she mind ?
Josephine
05-04-2017, 12:24
Her name is Johanna pronounced Yohanna. Her parents are Hungarian - so she has a Hungarian name. She has said she does not like being called Jo.
Us Brits always want to shorten names - but obviously as this not her name she doesn't like it - but I'm sure she knows she can't make people change habits

Well.. could be a precaution but I also remember one of the signs Andy had made it solidly into the top ten was a change in the number of tournaments played per year. If you only play an average of two or three games a tournament, you can play 25-30 a year. If you are expecting to go deep in tournaments, you go down to 18-20. I suspect she has arrived at that stage.
I've read, on the BBC website, Jo's going to be playing in the women's Tie Break Tens on the 4th of next month in Madrid. Maria Sharapova will also be playing in it.

Certainly disappointing that Jo couldn't consolidate her early lead in 2nd, Sevastova though was the better player on the day. Still some work for Konta to do on the clay before she looks comfortable.
I've read about an inquest into the death of Juan Coto has concluded Juan killed himself.

Unfortunately Jo couldn't quite sustain the momentum, goes down to Siegmund 3-6.7-5, 6-4. Certainly disappointing as she was 3-0 up in 3rd but was tough draw.
What a pity but then Siegmund is a clay specialist and Jo seems to be having her problems with the red stuff.
Crazy time to be playing a match.
Jo and Shelby Rogers lose 5 - 7, 1 - 6 to Babos and Hlavackova.
Good luck to Johanna for her match vs Putintseva this morning.
Sadly I'll miss it.

Great work from Jo so far in the second set. She's serving at 4-0 :GBflag:
Her first serve is still below par at only 37%, the ref had to stop the match as a ball boy has collapsed with the heat......
Johanna 5-0
Oh dear a ball boy is feeling faint and goes down. I hope he recovers well and wish him well.
It's a good job the ref noticed him as Johanna was about to serve
Jo takes it 6-3 6-0
