she was fabulous - a mixture of Serena and Andy at times! Do you think she could win a slam?
That's Jo justified her seeding, anything after this is a bonus.

Well done Jo!!! Brilliant match. :swingin:
One for Jo ...........
A young British lass known as Jo
Is proving her worth as a pro,
With serve, forehand and smashes
Her opponent soon crashes,
And Jo's standing continues to grow!
Brilliant Johanna!
Wish I could have seen it - but 5LSX was a good listen!

Jo will be on first at 4pm tomorrow on Ashe
I leave it ten minutes until before I turn the TV on and they are not even on court and they are still talking in the studio
They've just walked out onto the court.
All the empty seats are a disgrace.
All the empty seats are a disgrace.
Can you imagine anything close to that at Wimbledon!
Not a very good start from Jo! 0-2
Not looking good for Jo. She's losing 0 - 2.
JAMES4578
04-09-2016, 15:30
Not the best of starts as Jo now trails 3-0 but certainly time to turn it around! Not an excuse but play starts at 11 am and generally they don't get the crowds then.

shadow disapears around 7-8 oor time seeminly or to be more accurate becomes less of an issue as it engulfs the entire court

Jo's having a match today a bit like Andy's yesterday but he managed to turn it round, Unfortunately, Jo's running out of time to turn this one round although she can still do it, of course. I wonder if the shadow is affecting her more than her opponent. C'mon Jo - you need to break here.

2 match point against Jo, really gone all wrong today ...Jo lost
Just a bad day at the office for poor Jo Simple as.
You can't serve that badly and expect to win.
Jo loses 5 - 7 in the second set.
Not Jo's day today but a good tournament nonetheless. Her opponent was just too good today - she is a real talent.
Just not Jo's day :crying:
JAMES4578
04-09-2016, 17:08
Disappointing from Jo today, fought but her game wasn't really there today, wonder if previous events caught up with her or if it was just an off day. Certainly her serve was a liability though unfortunately. Credit to Sevastova who pretty much dictated play and earlier put out Muguruza, at least Konta defended points from last year.

Not if your aiming for top8 in the WTA Race to play in the finals, she needed more points to close the 270 point gap between her in 10 to 8th
A very easy win for Jo against Beck in Wuhan, earlier today.
Jo has won the first set against Zhang and has just saved break point in the fifth game of the second set. Now 3 - 2.

Well done Jo! I thought I had recorded her match to watch later but, in my haste, I obviously pressed the wrong button - very annoying. I'm now watching Jankovic v Muguruza - Jankovic took the first set. Muguruza seems to bave been all over the place since winning the French.
Excellent - well done Johanna!

Haven't had time to watch much today - so may watch some replays later on Tennis TV.
After winning the first set and losing her serve in the second set, Jo breaks Suarez Navarro's serve to make it 5 - 5.
Jo is one game away from winning the match.
Suarez Navarro saves a match point to take it into a tie break.
Brilliant!! Jo saves three set points to beat Suarez Navarro 7 - 5, 7 - 6 (8 - 6). She'll now play either Kerber or Kvitova in the quarters.

Well done Johanna :clap::clap::clap:
A really close and entertaining match - well done, Jo!:dance::dance:
Kvitova has just evened up the match against Kerber at one set all. They really are knocking seven bells out of one another here, which is great news for Jo.
sir coolerking
28-09-2016, 15:21
Kvitova defeated Kerber and they play at 7pm local tomorrow.
JAMES4578
28-09-2016, 15:30
Jo had that win over Petra in Eastbourne and some battle for Kvitova against Kerber even if great win, therefore could be reasonable chance here. On top form though Petra can be very tough.
Kitova was on top form. Jo had chances but couldn't convert the break points. She went down 6:3, 6:4:-(
JAMES4578
29-09-2016, 21:11
Pity for Jo but proved to be tough ask today, still more progress made.
A pity but Petra did play well - she was obviously determined to finish it in two sets.
Anastasija Sevastova only won two games against Jo, today, in Beijing. She now plays Babos in the second round.
It looks like they've cancelled Jo's match against Babos for today, as they were supposed to play after the Thiem vs Zeverev one.
I put the laptop on to find Jo had won in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.

Good win for Jo but she still needs some much bigger wins to make wta finals, getting to be a long shot now
Yes, but it is still a case of mainly good news I think. Look at the QF lineup and apart from the local unseeded player, it is very much a "who's who" of top WTA tennis at the moment. What is key is that Johanna's name is starting to look in place amongst such company. Whether she has a few amazing victories to break through into the top 8 and qualify or needs the experience of regularly playing and beating those players i.e. the next season, is not too worrying I think. In fact, there is an argument for the latter as the women's game seems to be littered with many players rising, but also then falling, fast. She knows she belongs in that rarified air but just might need to get used to breathing it first before pushing on to the next level! ;)
Agree with all that, David. She has never beaten her next opponent in 5 meetings, although most have gone to 3 sets, so will be tough for Johanna.
Jo wins the first set against Pliskova 6 - 1.
Pliskova is now winning 2 - 1 in the second set.
Pliskova saves a break point to make it 3 - 2.
On her seventh break point, Pliskova breaks Jo's serve.
Pliskova wins the second set 6 - 3.
Pliskova breaks Jo's serve, at the start of the third and final set, but Jo breaks back to make it 1 - 1.
Jo breaks Pliskova's serve to make it 1 - 3.
Jo leading 4-1 in the third
thanks for the updates, wanted to watch this but sky not showing it.
So really great.
Jo doesn't seem too happy with herself - come on Jo
A second double fault from Jo gives Pliskova the game. Jo now leading 4 - 3.
Pliskova saves a break point to make it 4 - 4. The winner plays either Shuai Zhang or Simona Halep in the semis.
Jo is one game away from winning the match.
Jo saves two break points and now leads 6 - 5.

Well done Jo, a much better performance than some recent ones, Pliskova a big win after her reaching us open final. Unfortunately Keys also in the QF so the gap between Jo and the finals place is still large at 332 points so Jo needs more wins.
A great win for Johanna. I thought she had blown it when she served for it and lost her serve but she kept fighting and played a brilliant tie break. She will have gone above Kuznetsova and possibly Suarez-Navarro too and into 9th. There must be some doubt about Serena's participation in the Tour Finals, so maybe 9th will get a spot?
On current form, Kvitova looks a threat to the top 8 too.

Hopefully Jo can take advantage and repeat that win, realistically she really needs to win another two to qualify. Jo is play Hong Kong next week but that is only a 280 pointer.
Even if she doesn't make it, to finish the year in the top ten would be a massive achievement.

Do you know if she's playing Moscow the week after HK? That's a Premier Event so more points.....although that would mean 4 weeks on the trot and a lot of travelling, so probably not.

She is not showing as down for Moscow which is a 470 pointer. Pliskova (already qual) Cibulkova and Suarez-Navarro are the only ones down higher than Svitolina but Kvitova has opted for playing that week in Luxembourg and is the only top20 player showing at present.
