On reflection whilst Serena in top form very tough to overcome, still disappointing it was a relatively short match. However by her own admission she felt rushed and couldn't quite in key moments. Will hopefully learn from experience and a good start to the year!

I have a feeling that Jo may well have been the second best player in this tournament, but an unfortunate draw pit her against Serena in the QF's. There will be more great chances to win a big one this year, especially as Serena is rarely 100% fit and doesn't show up to that many tournaments.

Unfortunately Jo has withdrawn from Dubai with a left foot injury, no idea how bad it is. Her next scheduled Tournament is Indian Wells on 6th March
JAMES4578
18-02-2017, 16:17
Yes pity Jo has now pulled out of Dubai, however if any doubt probably best in long run.
Possible 2nd round match between Jo and Heather in Indian Wells if Heather beats wild card Nicole Gibbs in the first round.

Jo is in Kuznetsova's (8) quarter and in Serena's(1) half. Lets hope she can do another good run to the Semi at least. Jo is currently #6 in the WTA race

Serena isn't playing - not sure why this time, but she never used to anyway. Pliskova the top seed in Jo's half. There's an opportunity to take out the likes of Kuznetsova and Cibulkova in a good run.

Serena has a knee problem and hasn't been able to train. Seems late to announce it though.

Maybe her previous dislike of Indian Wells has resurfaced in her knee. I never expected her to pitch up for this, too much history.

Serena has now pulled out of both Indian Wells and Miami due to left knee injury, (http://www.tennis-x.com/xblog/2017-03-07/25488.php) indeed she did boycott IW after the infamous 2001 incident but returned in 2015.Anyway hopefully greater chances for Jo but could still be a few tricky customers before potentially Pliskova.

7pm tonight for the Battle of Britain. I'll be supporting Jo as she has the potential to go deep in this draw.
I am supporting Heather. I have a soft spot for her. She was the first of our girls to win a tour title, and she needs the points more.
JAMES4578
10-03-2017, 10:06
Pity they had to meet this early and hope Heather can show decent form, however want Johanna to win as she has the greater potential.
Sod's Law that the two Brits had to meet in the second round. I suppose we can't have everything - at least one will get through and some of us will be pleased!

JAMES4578
10-03-2017, 20:37
Jo certainly raced to 5-1 lead but after 2 doubles Heather breaks back for 3-5, some work left!
Jo's finding it difficult to get over the line.

10-03-2017, 20:46
Well done Jo served out twice from 5-4 after dropping from 5-1 to 5-4 in the second set as well
JAMES4578
10-03-2017, 20:47
Certainly tension closing it out but Jo finally gets the win 6-4, 6-4-well done! Credit to Heather for asking some questions.
Well done, Jo - well fought, Heather! Very much divided loyalties on this one - I really wouldn't have minded who had won but I do think Jo has the potential to go further than Heather at the moment. I was watching on livescores while the other half is absorbed in the rugby - again I don't really mind who wins!

C'mon Johanna. One set all, one game all at the moment.
Jo was sailing through, but not a lot in it now.
Garcia is a difficult player.
JAMES4578
12-03-2017, 19:51
Still tough at the moment, 2 all-hopefully Jo can step up but Garcia possibly gaining in confidence.

C'mon, Jo - a nice quick match please, so that we can all go to bed.
Jo just getting underway now, just as the app is working again
Jo managed to snatch the first set 7-5, against the run of play. Now, she seems to have relaxed and found her game - leading 2-0 in the second.
Jo holds from 0-30 to make it 3-0 in the second.

Breaks to love 1st game c-mon Johanna
Jo breaks to love in the first game.
Several deuces but Jo holds for 2-0.
................ and Jo breaks again for 3-0. It's 19 years since Venus won her first Miami title - amazing!
Dbl break 3-0 that'll do nicely for starters.
Jo double faults to hand back one of the breaks. She's struggling to win points on her second serve.
Williams comes back from 0-40 down to hold - a pity but Jo still has a break in hand. 4-3.
Jo saves break points to hold for 5-3. It would be great if she could break here and not have to serve for the set.
Not to be - Venus holds to love. C'mon Jo - serve it out.
A difficult hold but Jo takes the set on her third set point
Johanna takes hard fought 1st set.
Now push on and more of the same.:dance::bravo:
I am seriously going bed now.
Jo saves break points to hold. Venus is definitely holding more easily than Jo at the moment.
Jo has a surprising amount of support in the fast thinning crowd and now has three break points.
Just one break point left - c'monnnn!
Venus saves the fourth break point in this game but here comes another ........ c'mon Jo! Nooooo - back to deuce.
This is becoming a very important game for both of them.
That was a massive hold for Venus - saving five break points. Re-group Jo.
Rats! Having saved five match points in her last service game Venus breaks for 3-1. C'mon Jo - break straight back.
0-40 - c'mon, this time Jo.
Two saved - 30-40. C'monnn Jo.
Amazing defence and Jo breaks straight back!
4-4 - a break now Jo would be very opportune.
Break point - c'monnnnnn!
.............. and Jo gets the break with an amazing reflex shot and will serve for the match. C'monnnnnn!
 Venus breaks back. 5-5. Just break again, Jo.
Two double faults gives Jo 0-40.
................... and Jo breaks to love and has another chance to serve it out. C'monnnnn!
........... and Jo does it!:dance::dance: What a gutsy performance - well done, Jo!

Fantastic effort from Jo who seems to be getting better through the tournament. That takes her to 9 in the rankings with a win in the Final making her 7. If Wozniacki wins she'll go above Jo. She is now number 5 in the Race and a win in the Final would take her to 2 just behind Pliskova. A win for the rejuvenated Wozniacki would move her to number 1 in the Race.
Well done Jo - what a fantastic result :yahoo::yahoo: :yahoo:

I don't have BT Sport either so I watch such matches on bet365.
I like Wozniacki, so I'm delighted to see her in the final but I'm definitely backing Jo to win. She is more aggressive than Woz and has great mental strength these days. I thought she had blown it last night when she served for the match and dropped serve but she didn't let it get to her and held her nerve to serve it out second time round. She was helped a bit by Venus tiring and serving several double faults - it was after midnight by the time they finished. Thankfully, Jo has a day to recover - go Jo!!!
I hope Jo can win the final.

Jo has moved up to #9 in the live rankings, i'm hoping she will get the win to move to #7, if Caroline wins, she will overtake Jo
A win for Jo will see her replace Caroline as #2 in the race and a win for Caroline would take her top in the race.

Great win by Jo. Should be a good match on Saturday. Unfortunately I don't have BT Sport.
Yes, delighted to find out this morning Jo got the W over Venus. No BT Sport here either, so it will have to be live scores (which has been acting up his week!). But great effort from Jo and I think she has every chance against Woz.

I have used bet365 for a few years now as I feel it is a legitimate site for live streaming sports and I just ignore all the betting stuff. Some links previously posted online seemed a bit dodgy and unreliable and I believe some were actually illegal.
It's only really the betting site streams that are legal, apart from officially sanctioned ones of course.
