Despite a wobble at the end of the third set, Kyle played well today and that should give him confidence for the next round

So Edmund takes on Andy's role of only Brit left standing in Singles at Wimbledon. And Wimbledon put him on Centre Court at tea-time to try to rouse interest - even though match-up not worthy of Centre Court -need to get some interest going to counter the football, I suppose. But just not the same when it's not Andy - not for me anyway.
Kyle wins the first set 6 - 4.

History for Kyle as he gets to the Wimbledon third round for the first time. I'm so pleased for him. He wins the match 6 - 2.

Fairly easy 3rd and whilst Klahn acquitted himself well for most part Kyle was pretty impressive, well done! Assuming Djokovic will be fine for Saturday, likely to be tough but hopefully Edmund can find another level.

Kyle played well and didn't need to stretch himself. Good that he's beaten Novak before even though this next match will be very different since Novak is much more like his old self now. Depends on what the issue was that made him call the trainer in his match
Got to admit I am beginning to enjoy watching Kyle more lately, very well played, Well Dome Kyle!! ...will look forward to the next match, I think Kyle can hold his own!!!
So, not only will the World Cup Final clash with the Men's Final, but Kyle v. Djoko is almost certain to clash with my beloved Sweden against whoever they are playing in the World Cup quarters. Perhaps if Kyle v. Djoko is on first and is over really quickly...

They will probably put them on first so Kyle and his coach can watch the match together. And so they will have an audience....

I think it won't matter about what Kyle wants himself but it will matter about the tv ratings to the tv companies. Hope football first and England win of course followed by the big match with Kedders winning in straight sets.
Kyle vs Djokovic is last on Centre Court, tomorrow. So, it will clash with England's match.
England's match will probably be over before Kyle's starts!

3rd gone now, hopefully Kyle can be more focused and find better form in the 4th. Maybe Edmund fortunate on that dispute over bounces, however saving bps will hopefully fire him up and put some doubt in Nole's mind. 4 all but gone to Deuce, come on! oh no Djokovic breaks
shame for Kyle , his time will come i think
No Briton makes the last week in the singles.
JAMES4578
07-07-2018, 19:14
Good effort from Kyle but ultimately couldn't sustain a high enough level to get the better of Djokovic , Nole got stronger as the match progresed and his defensive skills put Edmund under pressure. 3rd set though was a bit disappointing from the Brit and from then on it was an uphill battle. Still making progress and positives to take forward, hopefully Kyle in top 10 next year.

Seems a long, long time since we had to say that . Will support Delpo now
2007 was the last time, apparently.
Considering his previous record at Wimbledon and the fact he still clearly isn't totally comfortable on grass, I think we should give Kyle credit for improving at his own pace. He came up with some really good shots against Novak (admittedly missing a few he could and should have made). Serve inconsistent, but when working is definitely a weapon. He's getting there...

Edmind provided a challenge but once Djoko started reading his serve he didn't really have the variety in his game to be able to beat Djoko on grass. Only ever won 3 matches at Wimbledon so I think the hype around him (due to football) was a bit OTT. Also think some of the crowd behaviour went beyond acceptable. Probably the umpire didn't want to call the second bounce having just ruled the previous point for Djoko and already got a hostile crowd reaction. Not good saying as Edmund lost the point in 3 different ways!
Djokovic, the 12th seed, said the Center Court atmosphere was more hostile than when he played Andy Murray in the 2012 Olympics and the 2013 Wimbledon final.
“It was not like this, definitely. No, the crowd was very fair when I played against Andy. Obviously they support their player. There’s nothing you can say about that."
A few reasons for that I guess.

The crowd definitely got on his case but he doesn't help himself by indulging in the ridiculous ball bouncing - it goes on forever. He does it more at key points of the match too. It might be a strategy for settling nerves but it is also off-putting for the other player.
I do think he is really sensitive about crowds - it's always seemed to me that he can't get over that he isn't worshipped and adored like Fed & Rafa. That's why he started his ridiculous pantomime at the end of every win a few years ago and continues it now - desperately trying to build some love from the crowd. It's totally cringey. Not sure if he did it yesterday, I have started changing channel the minute they call Game, Set & Match Djokovic because I want to vomit every time he does it.
He was also pretty horrid to the ballkids yesterday, barking instructions at them when he was frustrated. No doubt another reason for the crowd to be against him.
Sorry for hijacking Kyle's thread for a Djokvic rant but it's all relevant to the match with Kyle

Sorry - I'm sure you behaved well but it was obvious on the TV from the start that the atmosphere was a bit raucous due mainly to the football result. Fine to support Edmund as the only English hope but no need to show lack of respect to opponent.
Some woman booed something absolutely tiny that Djoko did near the beginning that all players do and others joined in. That was unnecessary and started the booing atmosphere.
Anyway Djoko showed up all the limitations of Kyle's game.

I most definitely meant English hope -that was the main reason (along with drink) for the raucous cheers - spurred on by the BBC linking the tennis with the football. As Djoko said - was never like that when he played Andy.
And as you were there you probably didn't see the TV interview at the start of BBC Wimbledon broadcast where they asked a chap in England shirt where he would be watching fooball match and he said on his phone on the hill. And then asked about Edmund said yes that would be great to have an Englishman do well. Football's coming home and tennis is coming home too at last. So I don't think he was including the Andy years as tennis coming home! ;)
And I'm sure you were impeccably behaved.

Kyle is currently sitting at #15 in live rankings but will drop below the winner of Novak v Kei and could also be overtaken by Raonic if he makes the final which since he is in Feds half seems unlikely. Kyle is also #11 in the race

I counted up to 21 bounces which was when he was a bp down. Definitely did more when under pressure. I held my watch arm up and pointed at it when he was serving in front of us as the umpire was ditectly in line with him. He should have got the time violation then in the first set but the umpires are weak. Felt Novak out rafa'd Rafa, and Rafa also only got his warning towards the very end of his match. The crowd were frustrated by his antics and the fact the umpire was very weak from the start.
I've given this some serious thought and here's my 2 pennerth.
You could make all sorts of rules including shot time/clock from when the previous point ended and from when the server is set, ie from the first bounce.
The total amount of bounces allowed, and some players will still try and find some kind of advantage. Maybe by throwing the ball up and not hitting it saying sorry.
The crafty will always try and find a thin slither of edge to try and beat their opponent. (Believe me I know, I've played poker long enough, and we call it an Angle shoot)
Call it what we like but while the person who is supposed to be in control keeps letting players get away with it they will.

Shame. Kyle might not be fully fit, but a horrible match up for him at the best of times - scrappy Diego specialises in picking big hitters apart. Kyle might be getting better at formulating a plan B, but not at a level to out-guile Schwartzman yet. Hey ho - onwards, hopefully towards better draws.

Sorry to see Kyle struggling at the moment. Only saw the first set because of Andy's match starting but sounds like he was struggling physically. I saw an interview where he said he's had tonsillitis twice this year. If it's persistent he may have to consider having them removed, though I know that's not as recommended as it used to be. Hope he recovers for DC

He also has Laver Cup?
Silverdee
28-08-2018, 08:24
Yes, a tight schedule so perhaps he might give DC a miss. It will be interesting to see what he chooses to do.
A bit of scepticism on social media that Kyle wasn't fit for DC but a few days later is fit for Laver Cup ... I know a few days can make the difference but the timing is unfortunate as it doesn't particularly look good.
I'd be more bothered if we'd lost. I think there's something to be said for putting out a team that is "good enough" in order to bring players on. Either Dan or Cam would have missed out, and both had morale-boosting wins.
Also some of it is the mental side. Pressure can add to tiredness and make you feel worse. There is pressure in a home tie for your country that you want to win (cam showed as much on the first day), but no real pressure in the exhibitions. It’s not uncommon for players to pull out of tournies and play exhos int he next week. If Kyle was feel looking tored or off his game he owes it to the team to own up to that. As Caro said a week can make all the difference, especially if it’s just that you aren’t fully fit. He’s played DC before and he will again, hopefully he won’t take how it looks or some of the comments on social media to heart.
It was great for dan and cam to get a chance to play. I’m not really a fan of exp matches so don’t know if I’ll watch the laver cup. Busy watching proper tennis lol

I'd be more bothered if we'd lost. I think there's something to be said for putting out a team that is "good enough" in order to bring players on. Either Dan or Cam would have missed out, and both had morale-boosting wins.
Leon is such a good captain, he engineered a win without Kyle and Andy and is looking ahead to DCs after Murrays - noted Jonny O'Mara's great contribution from the bench.

The Laver Cup starts tomorrow--Is kyle playing? & will it be covered on this thread? Thanks

He's second match on v Sock
Kyle played a good match against Sock - pity he didn't play doubles IMHO...the Europe dubs teams struggled (despite the big names) & Kyle has a pedigree in that department, albeit mostly in juniors. Hard to tell how he's doing health-wise...
Kyle into the second round in Beijing.

Tough one but good that Kyle came through in the end, well done!
Well done Kyle.
He plays Dusan Lajovic in the quarters.
Good win to get with an on and off match. Doesn’t have to be pretty all the time. Fingers crossed for the quarters
Good news to come home to!
Managed to watch most of this match this morning. Credit to Kyle for coming thru some sticky moments. A couple of very dodgy overheads! Berrettini really made him work very hard. Well done Kyle.
Players warming up. Kyle to serve first.
Was trying to tune in to watch Kyle. How annoying! Tennis TV gone awol with me! Anyone else having problems?
Finally got it! Had to change browser! Come on Kyle. A good start. 3-0 up!
Kyle wins the first set 6 - 3.
Kyle saves a break point to make it 4 - 4.
Really having trouble with Tennis tv. Keeps freezing but managing to watch Kyle on my phone.
Tie break.
I'm watching the live scores on the ATP website.
Kyle wins 6 - 3, 7 - 6 (6 - 4).
Well played Kyle. Got the job done in 2 sets. He played the TB well!:clap:
Kyle will next play the winner of Basilashvili and Jaziri. Interestingly Jaziri replaced Andy in the draw, and here he is in the quarters after having beaten Sascha in the last round.
Well done Kyle.
Kyle will play Basilashvili tomorrow, not before 2pm BST. He will also go to #14 in the rankings on Monday. Pretty good achievement. Well done Kyle.

Dreadful calls in this match. Kyle was the victim of a bad one near end of first set and he's not been playing well since then.
It's been a case of missed opportunities for Kyle I'm afraid. Still only 1 break down though. Still time.

Disappointing as Kyle does not have quite enough today, looked like he may come back but could not produce on the key points. Still credit for reaching semis which he can hopefully build on.
Interesting that Kyle's conquerer went on to win the title.
Interesting that Kyle's conquerer went on to win the title.
He did. He hammered his way thru the match, though Delpo was under the weather. He had a bad cough and looked pretty miserable. But Basilashvili was relentless. He maintained his focus and just kept hitting out as hard as he could.
I didn't see the match but was quite surprised to see the result.

Kyle recovered from early break down to get the better of Krajinovic in Shanghai 7-5,6-3-well done! Will face Seppi in the 2nd Round, 5th seed Cilic was in his section but has lost opening match to Jarry 7-5 in 3rd.
Kyle beats Seppi - 6 - 3, 6 - 4 - well done.:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Well done, Kyle :cheer::cheer:

Draw may have opened up but still impressive Kyle in quarters without dropping a set, Sacha certainly a challenge but can hopefully perform well.
Well done Kyle.
He's just lost to Sascha in the quarters in straights  Sascha playing really well this week though. I'm hoping he can win the title now.

Unfortunately Kyle went down 6-4,6-4. Pity could not make more of an impression, however Sacha on form. Still a few positive weeks for Kyle which he can hopefully build on.

Kyle is top seed in Antwerp 250, never expected him to be top seed in a field containing Raonic, Tsonga, Gasquet and Simon. Some potentially tough ones there. Drawn Ramos or Q in round2
Well that would be good wouldn't it?

Kyle was very good today.:clap::clap:
Indeed - I had to go out so missed the end of the match, but he played very well.
Good luck in the final!
