I hope a bit of competition (and banter) from Dan will help him recover after a distinctly below par performance, even though he won in 3, I would only call his r1 performance ok and before that he lost in r1 in Sydney. The fact that Dan is now ranked higher should give him the motivation/determination he needs + also a bit of tlc from Leon in Ottawa may help

I watched the first set live last night and thought Kyle acquitted himself well in that set. It was unfortunate that he was a bit nervous in the first game and dropped his serve right at the start, he then stayed with Djok but couldn't quite get the break back. I had to go to bed at the end of the 1st but from the match reports it sounds like Kyle did even better in the 2nd set, so despite the defeat lots to take forward and learn from.

He seems to play better when well in front. I guess it's a confidence thing, but he will need to overcome it, if he is to keep improving. Sadly the prize is a match with nadal which I think will be too big an ask. Hopefully he can play well though.

Think I read somewhere that this win takes Kyle back to Brit no.2 - anyone know if that's right?

Argh, poor Kyle. I just can't stand watching Rafa on clay - brutal is the only word for it. It's painful - like watching a pitbull maul a golden retriever. I respect the Spanish ironmen aka grinders for their stamina, but that's all I can say. Roll on grass season as far as I'm concerned - original and best surface to see wonderful tennis (no wonder it's Andy's favourite :)).
