Great effort from Kyle in sets 2 and 3 but unfortunately Nadal just a bit stronger in the end, can certainly take the positives from it though!
Really well done form Kyle. I hope he takes the positives from this match and feels proud rather than focusing on not getting the win.
Great entertainment! Well done Kyle!!
Had to go out after 1st set. Just came on to check score. Well-played, Kyle!

Valiant effort - well done Kyle  And hats off to Rafa - not my taste but got to respect his clay prowess.
A great effort from Kyle - it should do a lot for his confidence.
Got back home for the second set, as you all have said, such courageous play from Kyle, didn't let that first set get him down (must admit when I saw the score of the first set, my heart sank), but he just kept on fighting, you just couldn't take your eyes of the tv,he sure got Rafa worried & made him work for the win.....Bravo Kyle!!!

Great effort from Kyle a bit too much pressure on his shots towards the end and was over shooting the lines. He can feel proud taking a set off Rafa, more to come.
Great fight back by Kyle after being steamrollered in 1st set. His attitude was great and his ventures to the net were encouraging for the future. Well fought Kyle.

Wasn't able to watch this one but reading the tweets from tennis journalists it sounds like Kyle did an excellent job of pulling it back after being bageled in the first set. It would have been so easy for him to throw in the towel after that, but great credit and good omen for the future that he didn't give up and pushed Rafa all the way
Edmund up against chardy, my back is stilll giving me Jin after a fall last week so I'm propped up by cushions to watch this one. It is taking the edge off by provided a distraction
Kyle is playing well, he had one hairy game which he did well to come out of. Then he broke for 3-1 though chardy did get a break back point in the next game. Edmund did take it to advantage but missed his first serve on the next point. Chardy took advantage with a great winner. Back to deuce
Back to advantage and then a good winner for the game. Kyle leads 4-1 in the first set
Just home - ooh great stuff, come on Kyle!
Another great point from Kyle, including one that should have been a winner down the line but chardy returned it. Kyle took the point with a drop shot 40-40
Ahh well a great serve by chardy, then a ball in the net from Kyle and chardy holds 4-2 but you still feel as if the game could have been Kyle's too. He is really getting into chardy's serves.
A great service game from Kyle, holding to love 5-3 and chardy will serve to stay in the set
Fantastic service game for chardy. He holds to love. Kyle now serving for the set at 5-3 and starts with a ace for 15-0
40- 15 set points for Kyle
The pain a double fault (his 4th) 40-30 come on Kyle
Then a backhand unforced error :( 40-40 come one Kyle !!!
Second ace of the match adv Kyle! Then takes the set 6-3 after 36 mins
Can't believe how empty the stadium is!

Can't believe how empty the stadium is!
It's quite common for there to be few spectators in the early rounds, especially morning matches.
Not many events, even Masters, bring in the crowds all day every day.
I remember photos from the Shanghai Masters last year showing masses of empty seats.
Kyle gets the early break at the start of the second set :) 1-0

I always find the matches of the Asian swing look like no one is watching.i wasn't expecting Barca to be even half full at this stage but it does look on tv as if no one is there.

Perhaps the Spanish don't like getting up early in the morning. They are the latest in Europe for dinner.
Kyle has had to chances to close out this game but we are back to deuce. I haven't seen Linda but the cameras aren't showing the crowd much.
Advantage come on!
Chardy has played some good points in this game.
Deuce again.
Points to close the game again but more good play from chardy. 6th deuce followed by adv chardy. Come on Kyle
Another chance to take the game followed by the 8th deuce
Oh no adv chardy .. come on!
and another.
Come on Kyle!!
Back to deuce but and unforced error from Kyle and its back to adv chardy. He serve to get to another deuce maybe the 10th?

There we go! A good solid performance from Kyle. Well done Kyle! Ever since Rouen I can only think of Chardy as 'Jher-e-mee' as the Barmy Army would have said (just loud enough for him to hear) as he was about to serve or missed a serve in the dead rubber!
Looking forward to Kyle v Thiem now!

Well done Kyle, expected him to win but you never know if he is going to perform at his best, hoping for more consistency
Great win for Kyle, he came through so many tough points, that epic service game that went to deuce around 10 times was an amazing one to get out of. He was so strong mentally. Looking forward to Kyle v theim :)

Some tight moments it seems but certainly impressive win for Kyle, well done!:clap:
Really pleased for Kyle that he managed to even up the h to h v Jher-e-mee. He showed great composure during that multiple deuce game and also serving out the match, something which he has found difficult previously. Well done, Kyle! :bravo:
Kyle v Thiem is first match tomorrow (11am local time, 10am UK time).
Being on the main court sky will actually show it :) unlike the dan match
Well Done Kyle. Thanks for the running commentary as well.
Won't be able to watch any tennis until Friday as we can't get a satellite signal for the TV, in the campground we are at. :(
Kyle will be the 8th seed in Estoril next week which must be the first time he's seeded at an ATP tour event.

Slightly harsh score line, but Thiem took his chances well.

JAMES4578
25-04-2017, 10:32
Thiem just too strong on the day but Kyle definitely had some chances in the 2nd.
Both sets were more competitive in the first halves. Score in first set a bit misleading. Both had chances, and the difference was Thiem took them, Kyle didn't. I'm sure Kyle and his team will work on that. Every match Kyle plays is a good deposit in the experience bank. Bring on Estoril now! Well done Kyle. You certainly didn't disgrace yourself!
Busy with work so wasn't even able to follow the scores on this match, nevermind watch it. Finally just catching up now. It was a shame for Kyle but theim isn't ranked where he is for nothing. Kyke had improved his ranking again these past two weeks and could be back up to 41 on Monday. He is 41 in the live rankings but there are some players beneath him still in action
roytennisfan
26-04-2017, 06:23
He has maintained his ranking when he could have been improving it, I thought at the beginning of the year after his first tournament that he was going to kick on and get high enough to be seeded at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, instead, it is Dan who has done so much better in 2017, having twice as many points in the ATP Race as Kyle and whilst Dan is dropping in the rankings at the moment , he is 50 places higher in the race than Kyle. Cmon Kyle, you need to start putting wins together and should be picking up more points especially on clay.
sir coolerking
26-04-2017, 08:30
A bit harsh there Roy. In the last 2 weeks he's been beaten by Nadal and Thiem. I'm sure he'd have loved to have been drawn against a serve and volleyer like Dan was.
roytennisfan
26-04-2017, 11:01
I agree that a few times he has had tough draws including the last two, but since beating Pouille (who retired) in Brisbane, the only top 50 player he has beaten is Dan and he has lost to a number of much lower ranked players on hardcourts. Hopefully, starting with Estoril, he will string together some wins and pick up more points in the remaining clay court events and take good form into the grass season. Incidentally, if he had matched Dan's 472 points in 2017 he would have been sitting happily at #32 in the rankings, getting ranked is still a possibility, but only if he can repeat the sort of wins he achieved last autumn where he ko'd 4 seeds in 4 consecutive tournaments. Yes, perhaps, I am a little disappointed in Kyle's level of performances so far this year BUT ONLY because I know he has the capability to do much better, yes he is still young...but only a year younger than Pouille, cmon Kyle, i'm rooting for you!

Don't understand this...Kyle is not down for the Rome Qualifiers just realised this week, but is still down as an alternate (currently 3rd, Dan made it in when Roger withdrew)
Sallydaisy
26-04-2017, 12:46
Kyle perhaps gambling on there being a few withdrawals, and there are some potentials for that.
Monfils? Tsonga? Raonic? Querrey? (withdrew from Madrid the week before) ... Tomic? Berdych?
;)

Awful
Bad day at the office. Kyle !!
A shocker from Kyle but amazing for Domingues. First ATP main draw match & first ATP win. 23 years old & career earnings of $69K. Maybe he can afford some branded kit as it looks like he borrowed someone's t-shirt. ;) He's had a lot of success in clay futures recently, reaching the final of 4, winning 1. What was it Jamie said about underestimating players?

Bad day at the office. Kyle !!
He's had a few of these lately...seems to be "stuck" somehow. Maybe if he could show a bit of fire it might help. To lose from serving for the match at 5-2 must really hurt.

Frustrating for Kyle and a few disappointments lately, hopefully back on track soon.
Well, the world no 1 lost from 4-0 up recently, so he's in good company! ;) Seriously though, he seems to have all the tools but isn't using them as effectively as he might. Perhaps a sports psychologist would help.
Oh well, there's always Rome :)

03-05-2017, 00:02
Oh well, there's always Rome :)
That's assuming there are 3 withdrawals from Rome , which there probably will, also Lyon and Roland Garros, we all know how he is capable of so much on clay but in the past year he has beaten 5 top 20 players as well as the #21 but none of these wins have been on clay which is surprising because most of us think he is best on clay!
I mentioned it because it is on list of tournaments he is playing on his website. So I guess he plans to play. Also because it's next up for him, not because it's on clay ;)

I certainly can't defend him this time for being unlucky with the draw. Embarrassing defeat and hopefully a wake up call.

Ouch ... harsh but probably fair. He did have match points and was a double break ahead. I guess it happen to the best but when it's a player ranked a lot lower, those kind of losses should be few and far between. Poor Kyle
