Kyle down 5-6 needs to hold and win tb
Dmitrov withdrawal means the winner will face Novak or a LL (Fabbiano)
Novak??
Novak the surname.

I don't have to any more ... I have switched to TennisTV which is much better and cheaper than sky if you only want it for the tennis which I do.

His opponent is into a 3rd set tie-break - 1st to ARV 7-6, 2nd to Struff 6-2
Excellent news! I was out so missed all the drama!
Well done Kyle

He did it in the end - that's the main thing.
Yes it was hard to watch too! I was impressed by Novak, his movement was excellent and his serve got him out of trouble a lot of times. Well done Kyle for digging himself out of a few holes, mostly of his own making.
Well done to Kyle. He plays Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarter finals.

Much better from Kyle today, his first ATP500 SF and just about back into top50 in live (from 63) hopefully a springboard to recover and to get to a NCH
He plays Pouille in today's semi final and then plays him again in the first round in Paris.
Pouille winning 3 - 2 in the first set.

Good win by Kyle in the end, let's hope he can build on it.
Good that he got the win but made hard work of it. Just can't warm to his tennis.
One good thing about so many top players being out at the moment, is that the lower ranked, particularly younger players are experiencing what it's like and what it takes to go deeper into tournaments.

Kyle can't seem to close out winnable matches, been the story of 2017 for him, beat a lot of top 20 last year, nothing like as good this year

Suppose at least he held to get to the tiebreak, but this match sums up why Kyle hasn't progressed from 40ish to 20ish this year, which he really has the talent to achieve!
yup, rather pathetic/puzzling/worrying take your pick, wonder how long his recent sponsorship deal will last

Kyle is still only 22 and one of only half a dozen players around his age in the top 50 so I think he is doing ok. He is not another Andy Murray and we may never see one of those again!

Kyle let that one slip through his hands
Sallydaisy
01-11-2017, 21:52
Argh!!! I thought it was safe to leave when Kyle was 4-1 up in the third.
He had several chances to make it 5-0 before Sock finally held that 5th game!
He should NOT have lost the match - silly boy!
I did think he was tiring though, serve which had been very good was becoming laboured.
The first set was really tight but Kyle seemed to be more up for it than Jack and played well to engineer the single break for 6'4. Sock took a tumble midway thru the first set, slight graze on his knee but he carried on.
In the 2nd set he initially seemed disinterested and got a warning for swearing when he failed to break Kyle. However, Kyle lost his way in the tie-breaker and I thought he might fold quickly in the 3rd set.
In the 3rd Kyle just played calmly on whilst Sock became ever more brattish including a racquet smash after being broken for the 2nd time in the set. Given he did the racquet in at his seat, and under the umpire's nose, I thought he deserved another warning.
He may have jarred his back when he fell in set 1 which prompted the trainer call (just as I was leaving) but at that point anyway he didn't look interested in winning the match.
So, whatever he found to turn the match around, I reckon he deserved the win.
Kyle had it on his racquet and couldn't see it through.
His team has much work to do, and to work with. If they go for it he could get into top 25 next year.
He hit some stunning winners during the match and has ended the year well.

See Kyle Edmumd now resident in the Bahamas. Whatever for? Ah .. a tax haven.
I really hope Andy never does anything like that.
Disappointed to hear that.
RosieBear
09-12-2017, 11:32
I don't understand the rush to judgment. Unlike Andy, Kyle can't afford a second home in Miami, so a primary home in a warm country with plenty of good weather makes sense. If there's nowhere with an emotional connection that fits the bill, then makes sense to choose somewhere with an attractive tax regime. What's the big deal?
Josephine
09-12-2017, 12:26
I'm sure Edmund is pretty well off. Kyrgios has said he could retire now and never work again and he has won no major titles
Some people have more integrity and Andy is one of them.
Why should anyone pay no tax? Does Edmund use roads, or in an emergency use the NHS? Or think the police force might be quite a useful thing to have in a country. Or think it's helpful if people are educated.
RosieBear
09-12-2017, 12:48
Kyrgios has more than double Kyle's prize money, and far more than him in endorsements. Kyle has just over $2 million (gross) in earnings so far, no chance of a second home/base somewhere reliably hot.
I'm sure Kyle paid tax & NI when he was a UK resident, so again don't see the problem so long as he sticks to visitation rules.
exislander
09-12-2017, 12:55
In 2 years less as a pro Nick has earned more than twice as much as Kyle - so not a good comparison even though no major titles.
RosieBear
09-12-2017, 13:03
Nor can Kyle be compared to Andy - apples and oranges. Now Lewis Hamilton is a different matter, he most certainly can be compared unfavourably to Andy. :grrr: but that's for a different thread.
Josephine
09-12-2017, 13:17
2 million pounds. I am so sorry for him. He has prospects to earn millons more!
'If there's nowhere with an emotional connection that fits the bill, then makes sense to choose somewhere with an attractive tax regime. What's the big deal?' That argument applies to Hamilton also. What is the difference?
Edmund can be compared to Hamilton. Just because he earns more the principle is the same. Choosing to live somewhere where you pay virtually no tax.
Edmund is likely to be the next British No 1 after Andy - I can compare him to Andy if I want to. And Andy's base in Miami is because it has good courts and plenty of practice partners to train to play tennis matches - not just to have a base in a warm country.
RosieBear

2 mill dollars, so 1.5 mill pounds before tax. Not a huge amount by today's standards. And if he wants to further his career and fulfil his earning potential that you mention he needs somewhere hot to train, just as Andy does - personally have no issue with that because comparing him to multi-millionaires who have limitless logistical options doesn't make sense to me, so will just have to agree to disgaree.
Josephine
09-12-2017, 16:12
We have to disagree indeed;)
1. There are many hot weather places to train.
2. If the Bahamas is ideal there is no need to become a resident - he can remain officially resident in the UK.
3. The choice to take residency to avoid tax is the moral equivalent to Lewis Hamilton's choice.
I see no moral difference. One has more money and has entered into more schemes, but I guess when you start, why should you stop?

I keep hearing about the famous people moving away, hoping to pay no tax or hardly any tax. I think it's a disgrace.

Giving to charity is not the same as paying the tax you should. Most people pay tax due and give to charity - admittedly most don't have the wealth George Michael had!
Glad to see Johanna not going down the Edmund line

George Michael attempted to shelter £6.2 million in tax avoidance scheme
Erm is that not avoiding paying tax then?
Do we like GM for all his kindness, or dislike him for his attempt to shelter £6.2 million in tax avoidance scheme
There's also the old saying, judge not lest ye be judged. Especially prejudging without all the facts.
All I'm saying is it's never that clear cut,
It can almost always come to pass that someone we look up to/ idolise gets tared, if not by the brush directly, then by the splashes.
http://www.baltimoresun.com/business/under-armour-blog/bs-bz-under-armour-hunting-20160902-story.html
Where and how one pays tax is a personal choice and I don't see it's anyone else's business, so long as they aren't breaking the law.
"Ah, but what about the morals I hear people say"
Well we all have differing morals (just ask some vegans what they feel about us meat eaters) and none of us again have the right to judge imo.
If I want to withdraw my support for some one because of their actions.
then I can, it's my right. Just like it's their right to take that action in the first place. It's called cause and effect.
If I have learned anything this last year though, it's that "it's up and down, but in the end it's only round and round"
Not worth the paper it's written on like most news. Best for wrapping fish and chips in I say.
Can't even do that now. Oh the good old days!

Definitely not. Other teams have 'tax exiles' playing for them (e.g. Serbia) so it would place us at a disadvantage. And as Jagmad said, it's up to the individual where they want to live. And it might not all be about tax. For instance, lots of professional tennis players live in Monte Carlo - low tax, but also a great tennis club where they can practice together.

Nice to see the ankle injury wasn't too serious, as Kyle plays Hyeon Chung in the first round in Auckland.
Kyle withdrew from Auckland; the Lucky Loser is Tennys Sandgren.
Seems just to be precautionary to allow that turned ankle to be fully OK for the Oz Open.
Russell Fuller @russellcfuller (https://twitter.com/russellcfuller) 38m38 minutes ago (https://twitter.com/russellcfuller/status/950268998419017728)
Edmund was very confident the injury would settle down quickly. The decision to pull out of Auckland appears precautionary
The withdrawal wasn't a surprise after what happened, even if it is only precautionary it made sense for him to avoid Auckland and give himself the best chance for the OZ. He seemed to roll it so I hope it's better now.

I throughly enjoyed this match. Not just because of the win, which I knew he would get, but the way he got it. Yeah it would have been better if it was shorter, more rest for Kyle for next rounds, in some ways. But this match gave Kyle a chance to show himself and others how much he's grown. To tell himself that the hard work he put in during the off season paid off. Last year saw many close matches, matches he could have won, maybe should have won, but didn't. Maybe last year he would have lost this match. But not now. He came back, he fought, he didn't drop his head when fortune (rain delay) went the way of his opponent and he lost the set. He was revved up and more importantly he believed in his ability to see it through. He seemed calmer and more confident. I hope this boom of a match (in Matt's word) is the start of a boom of a year, one that sees Kyle take another step towards what he is capable of. In the past I often thought that he got in his own way as much as anyone else, lack of belief and sometimes even athletiscism. No one could say that about this match. So huge well done to Kyle, on the win, on the work and on the improvement. What an entertaining match. I'm sure he will come through the next one against istomin :) go Kyle, keep it up.

Good result for Kyle as Istomin can be a tricky character
Well done to Kyle. Will watch it later. Was still too exhausted from Monday to do this one,

This was a really big win for Kyle after his tremendous first round win, especially getting it done in straight sets. Bemelmans who beat Pouille went out as did Sugita wHo beat Sock. Always tough the next match after a big winand really hoping this is another sign of Kyle making a massive step up this year.
Really pleased to hear this result this morning and hoping that Kyle can go on to take advantage of his section having opened up.

Great match to watch live today. No stress just very competent, confident play by Kyle. Everything working well - very hot.
Good stuff from Kyle. Well done to him.
Bit late on here about Kyle. Was delighted for him and had meant to watch the replay, but having spent all morning (and early afternoon) watching Jamie, Dimi's epic escape and then the women's match after that (which was quite bizarre), I have been going like crazy to catch up with my commitments. Only getting sorted now. But worth it! Well done Kyle.:skippy::skippy:

I watched all of Kyle's match. He played with conviction and confidence and he made it look easy. Hoping that this will continue.:cheer::GBflag:
Kyle was fantastic in that match. Agree with supergran he was full of confidence. I think the Anderson match really helped with that. Winning such a close one. Now he needs a win here. At least the strong winds will mean it's not quite like a oven lol
well I usually hate tie breaks but that one I could cope with. Tie bagel 7-6 to Kyle and then a break to start set 2
Not sure why villy put his hand up during the serve. Didn't see anything happen. Clearly neither did Kyle which why he served anyway. But villy seemed to have enough time to be ready. Edmund wasn't fast serving. Maybe it is the heat? Hopefully it's not just gamesmanship hoping to unnerve Kyle during his serve.
Aww well villy had broken back but it just means it's back on serve. Kyle still has this. Come on Kyle!! 3-3
C'mon, Kyle - don't let him back into this.
Another break point - c'mon!
Basilashvli inow serving for the set- where did that come from?
I know! Second set to villy. I needed a 3 set match. It's been a long day lol
What a strange set - Kyle seemed to be so in control and then it just ran away from him. Oh well, Kyle will just have to regroup.
Oh dear, oh dear - three breaks in a row. C'mon, Kyle!
Seven games in a row to Basilashvili and Kyle struggling to win a point at the moment - what a strange turn around.
A love service game - that's better.
Back on serve - well done, Kyle.
Followed by another break what is going on
Kyle drops serve again - what a see-saw of a match. I wonder if the heat and the wind are playing a bigger part than we imagine.
I'm sure the heat is a big part of it. It would explain the lulls. It's a terrible shame. It sometimes it goes that way. The commentators were saying earlier that villy had more exposure to heat after spending years in turkey and San Diego (?) I think that was the second one. Tiredness is blurring it for me. But that would suggest he is more used to heat than Kyle. I won't make it much longer, early morning tomorrow and it's already been a long day today. Hoping Kyle can turn it around and take this set back. Then I can go to bed feeling confident about his chances
Basilashvili takes the third set but doesn't look very happy about it. You have to think that if Kyle could just find his game again he could still win this.
Well he'll have to do it on my recording. lol
Any minute now. Just after this break. Lol
At last - after 16 deuces and 20 mins!
Just hold serve now, please Kyle.
At last - after 16 deuces and 20 mins!
Yeah when I said after this break I didn't count on it being 20 bloomin minutes. Going to bed before it sucks me back in. Goodnight
3-0 Kyle. Goodnight JerryD.
Maybe the longest game of the year?
Well Andy has had two of the longest games in DC so I suppose Kyle's gotta start somewhere.
5-0 - surely he has this set in the bag.
Smoked salmon and cream cheese thanks
What's that I can hear?
Yeah it's my bed calling.

Kyle's opponent is very up and down. He probably tanked that after the second break.
Surprised he has let Kyle serve first in the fifth though without much of a fight!
C'mon Kyle. I liked the placed shots in the last two games. C'mon lad!
looked to me like neither of them fancied serving first?????
Just when you think you're out it pulls you back in. The break turns into a set and that turns into set 5 lol come on Kyle!
I can't believe you're still here, JerryD!:sleepy:
Drat - a pity Kyle couldn't convert there. Just keep holding, Kyle, and you'll get another chance.
