Players are warming up.

Why don'y you pay the 6.99, that's all you need to pay, assuming you have a computer or phone, i'm streaming from phone to my tv

Stell
31-08-2016, 15:21
I'm not going to pay £6.99 for something I might hardly use. If they had a free trial, like some websites do, it would be different.

Now 1 - 1.

Stell
31-08-2016, 15:46
I know Kyle claimed that (Andy) Murray helped him in how to beat Gasquet. So, he should be able to beat Escobedo as well.

Now, 4 - 4.

Kyle doing well. I have such high hopes for him to take over when the time comes.

Bouncy Castle doing less well. Is it me or is his inane banter even more banal than usual? Oyster bars, steak sarnies, blah blah blah - I heard it all already last night and it's sending me :barmy:

Now 2 - 2.

31-08-2016, 16:20
I may be a bit slow and it's likely everyone already knows this, but I just saw an article where Kyle said that after his wins in Serbia he received a text from Becker saying well done. It seemed to mean a lot to him, Becker can sometimes be a bit of a coldfish, the staff at the wtf rarely have anything nice to say, so this surprised me. And of course moved him up in my estimation lol :)

Stell

Another break point for Kyle, but saved by Escobedo. Now 2 - 3.

If I find the "banter" getting too much (he was not so bad on Monday when Leon was with him) the advantage of Eurosport Player is that you can switch to the channel showing the match with no commentary and no adverts.

Well done to Kyle. Tough conditions with the humidity and the pressure coming into this match. He seemed fitter than his opponent. But he says himself he invests a lot of time in his physical fitness. He said everything felt a little tougher today but some days you just get up like that. He should be pleased with another straight sets. Potential opponent in the next round is isner

What the commies were (correctly IMHO) emphasising was not just the fitness but the increased mobility especially with regard to his defence. He has the power of shot but now he is started to improve other aspects of his game.
I watched most of this match and Kyle basically won it on his consistency. His opponent when dangerous was VERY dangerous but could not maintain that level consistently. Also very encouraging for the future was they were even in the sets until the critical moments when Kyle seemed able to play the key points better!

JerryD
01-09-2016, 22:40
All aspects of his game are improving I was more emphasising that he's right to see how important the fitness is, if you want to be in the top. Many guys even now don't think about it. He credits Murray with helping him to know the importance of it.

Amazing performance from Kyle against their number one on a big show court with a fairly partisan crowd (but nowhere near DC level). Finished watching final 2 sets this morning. Great save from 0-40 at beginning of third, probably the decisive game. His serve percentage dropped in fourth set but he battled well to hold serve conceding only 1bp and although he didn't get close on the Isner serve which was very solid in that set 11 aces 0 doubles, he hung in to get to the tiebreak
Played a really solid tiebreak, couple of mistakes but some really good points as well. Kyle won most of the big points, saving 6 of 7 bp and winning 3 of 4 and the tiebreak.
Kyle didn't seem to have any form coming into this and I for one had doubts about how well he could perform on such lively courts thinking he preferred slower, less bouncy clay ones. He certainly proved any doubters wrong! He's certainly got the temperament, he's got the shots, he's only going to get better. He has now joined Dan in the live ATP Race top50 and i would expect them both to retain that for the end of year rankings. There's a lot of proud Brits today Kyle.

Well done to Kyle. And he will definitely give Novak a serious contest.

But Djoko cannot possible play as badly as Isner who has virtually no backhand and spends his time getting into outlandish positions to run round it.

Brilliant presser from Kyle on the US Open site - he's so level headed. Superb win over Isner.

Just a chance he COULD beat Nole so fingers crossed. Nole has no idea how his wrist would stand upto 5 sets so lets hope its a long match!

He was doing well at the start when I was working so I did not dare watching and jinxing it. Aren't we a superstitious lot at times?
So pleased for him. Such a pity it is Nole next - if it was somebody in the top sixteen more winnable it would be a great reward. Though I suppose given how he might ask a few questions even of Djokovic!
Perhaps Nole is thinking such a pity it is Kyle next!! :superman:

My dear forumers I think I need to point out that you watching will not jinx the outcome of a match. Have had to point this out many times on Twitter and Facebook. It really amuses me when I see these remarks. There is someone on Twitter who seriously believes that watching will have a bearing on the outcome. I realise that some comments are lighhearted but just watch as nothing we say think or do can affect the result. Everyone needs to suffer the emotional rollercoaster. If I can do it you can.....and must! No such thing as a jinx only superstitious people believing.:cauldron::yikes::lol::swingin :

*chuckle*

I'm actually a bit the other way. I watch so intently - willing 'my player' on, until I'm almost convinced that if my attention is diverted, it will all go horribly wrong. Then I have to imagine myself explaining out loud to someone that I must must must help 'my player' and I remember [yet again] how totally ridiculous that is!

Radio five live did live commentary on the match. I found it weird that Novak was cruising in the first two sets and, then when Kyle breaks back in the third set, Novak had to suddenly called the trainer on as he was having problems with his arm. I had hoped Kyle would give him more of a match.

Alis
05-09-2016, 07:19
Kyle played well but he obviously felt that, to have any chance, he had to redline it and made more unforced errors than he normally would. The score makes it look far more one sided than it actually was. In a lot of the rallies he was going toe to toe with Djokovic who was on fire. He had a number of break points but, sadly, couldn't convert. I also thought it strange that the first time that Kyle broke Djoko immediately called the trainer. He hadn't shown any signs of discomfort before that - or after, come to that.

Sallydaisy
05-09-2016, 07:32
Oh dear, perhaps an opponent too far?
Nole winning 6-2 6-1 6-4 is a tough one to take although Kyle did manage to break him.
Wonder just how bad this arm/wrist/elbow problem is for Nole?

Alis
05-09-2016, 07:41
Well, there certainly didn't seem to be any obvious sign of discomfort on Djokovic's part during the match. I didn't see him wince or shake out his arm and his shots were certainly not compromised.

Great learning curve for Kyle and was beginning to relax in the final set and making head way. That scoreline is a really good one against the number one seed who hardly anyone is beating at the moment.

Rosalind
05-09-2016, 09:36
learning curve, all experience and a good third set. With Novak you have to come out guns blazing and hitting the ground running otherwise before you know it, you're two sets down. Easier said than done of course. Kyle and Dan have both done so well though. I hope they can continue in the same vein, feed off each other and spend more time with Andy. Whoever is picked as our no. 2 in Glasgow is going to get a great reception. :bravo:

Novak's issues: he appears over them. no further comment....

Josephine

Watched recording on a bit of a fast forward. Kyle did well but was outclassed by Novak, except when he lost concentration in 3rd set. Some great points from Kyle but that's not enough against Novak.

JerryD
05-09-2016, 12:44
Overall I think Kyle should be pleased with his performance. There is room for improvement but there always will be. He played well, he was able to hold djoko off on some big points, he had some great shots and got a break. It was a new experience for him and there is no shame in not getting a set from the no 1. Especially when he seemed so well rested and back on form. A great tournie from Kyle and more ranking points. Well done :)

Kyle was really distraught after losing on Friday. We saw him after the finish on Saturday and said how brilliant he was in Serbia and that we wouldn't be playing in the semi if it wasn't for him. He again looked rather down towards the end on Sunday, probably still going through his mind that he could have won. Rather than him or Dan playing poorly, it was down to all the Argentines preforming exceptionally well. There will be plenty more times that Kyle can win for GB.
