The Times journalists Simon Barnes and Neil Harman have put together a compilation of their reports of Andy's progress through 2012. There are so many links that I can't possibly pick out any or any extracts.
So, this is for those who already pay a subscription to the Times online.
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/tennis/article3534641.ece

For those who don't - it really is worth the £2/week (£8.66 pcm) because it gives access to the online version of The Times and The Sunday Times. The sports reporting is good quality - especially the tennis - and to a games geek there's Xwords and so on too.

No, but it saddens me that because of copyright I cannot share much of the articles and that's a shame because they're so well-written and informative. Unfortunately, the only alternative is for people to sign up and pay to read it.

"My advice would be to forget about everyone else and be extremely selfish for the next three weeks and I am sure she has the game to go well," Murray said.

"Sometimes if you read bad things it can be motivation but if you read good things I don't think it helps.

"If you are reading about people saying 'I think you can win the event or this is the year', it just does not help.

Thanks for the Brisbane channel link Cazza. There is another video on there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8aEsjNzM8Q which is a sweet one showing Andy with young kids and showing great patience in having to do an interview and sign balls at the same time!

Do you know what I really love about that video.........the way Andy makes eye contact with each person for whom he signs something - he could just sign and hand it back, looking at the interviewer but he doesn't and I think it shows a genuine interest in people. I've noticed before that if you see him talking to someone he tends to make intense eye contact when listening (I'm not necessarily talking about with reporters, just if you get clips of him interacting with someone else). I also like the way he says thanks to one of the autograph hunters too.

Agree with all you said Pabbers :) loved the thanks in the middle! Also shows the respect Andy has for everyone, I think most people would not be so relaxed doing both things at once.

Before the second-round match, Lendl had sent a text message to the 25-year-old's hitting parter, Danny Vallverdu, asking what time Murray's quarter-final against Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin would be today.

Said the Scot: "December 22nd was the last day we trained in Miami before I went home. He messaged Danny and said, 'Can you send me the score and what time he's playing tomorrow before the match?' He was obviously expecting me to come through, but it was very nearly a different story.

I can't find a link to the speech and presentation. So far have only found the full match with no presentation at the end and the post-match press interview to which we've already posted the link. Will keep looking.

"I do see a slight difference on the court with his attitude now," said Cahill. "He has spent 12 months with Ivan. He knows exactly what the plan is. This time last year, it was a little bit 'let's look and see how this goes'. But they're 12 months down the road now, they have an Olympic gold medal under their belt, a US Open under their belt, and I see a little bit more swagger on the court. That doesn't mean anything when it come to playing these top guys but it means he's not focusing on that one major; he's focusing now on multiples. There's no question he's capable of winning multiple slams."
.....

"It's a little difficult for me to comment on the Lendl/Murray partnership because I played a small part in it," said Cahill. "Like everybody else, I'm happy that it worked. But getting any real information out of Ivan is like pulling blood from a stone. Sitting on the outside looking in, there's no question that he's targeted four or five different areas in Andy's game. But we're in unknown territory here for the next 12 months for many, many reasons.

Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2013/jan/10/andy-murray-australian-open-players-injuries) - Andy Murray's fine-tuned training keeps him off the Melbourne sicklist

"Andy is moving towards his physiological peak from 25 to 28," Green says. "He achieved a 200 beat-per-minute maximum heart rate. His maximum minute ventilation is indicative of a highly trained athlete and has increased since last year's test. His oxygen pulse, which is an indication of how much blood and oxygen he can consume for every beat of his heart, is still extremely high.

"The fact that Andy has now put more emphasis on strength and power in his training and still has such a high VO2 max (peak oxygen uptake) is unique. Not many people can improve so much on strength, put on a few pounds of predominantly muscle and still maintain such a high VO2.

"It's usually very difficult to put on muscle and improve endurance, as they counteract each other in training – that is, muscles needs extra protein calories to get stronger and obviously endurance training actually burns those calories. Andy has improved endurance statistics and put on three pounds of lean muscle. In our lifting sessions, we did twice a week from September to November, 2011. We did four times a week in the same time in 2012, resulting in another three pounds of muscle. We just felt he needed a little more strength to keep improving his ability to create force to help his speed, shot power and also injury resistance.

"I've been training Andy for five years, and I still find it hard to believe all the things that he can do. He is naturally fast, but he is also so strong: on his best day he can do 27 pull ups, and push 500 pounds on the leg-press. He could probably run 53 to 55 seconds for 400 metres if he trained for it. He is a big, powerful guy, whereas Novak has a wiry strength; his flexibility is extraordinary."

Newcastle Herald (http://www.theherald.com.au/story/1230690/murrays-the-man-to-raise-the-bar-says-agassi/?cs=12)- Murray's the man to raise the bar, says Agassi

''The way he got across the line in New York will have a huge impact on him moving forward because he had to step up and take it,'' Agassi said. ''He couldn't just wait and watch somebody implode. He had to step up in that fifth set and step up to the biggest situation against the biggest player on the biggest stage and take it, and he did. If his evolution is anything like mine, that was the real light switch that went off for me. I realised that I can't hope for somebody to lose. I have to want this enough to go after it. I think once that clicks in for him, you'll see him playing to their standard throughout the year and for a few years to come.''

''This is Murray's year to really break through,'' he said. ''I really think his game can play at that standard [of Djokovic, Nadal and Federer]. I think he's slowly come to understand what he needs to do out there as far as not being so passive. He has so many defensive skills that he does run the risk of falling into the temptation of being passive out there on the court. I think that can get him past everybody but not the two greatest players to ever play, not to mention Djokovic, who is now starting to be part of that equation.''

Tennis World (http://www.tennisworldusa.org/ATP---Andy-Murray-says-he-is-looking-for-ways-to-improve-articolo7806.html)- ATP - Andy Murray says he is looking for ways to improve

Speaking to the media in Melbourne, Murray commented, "The U.S. Open and the Olympics made me extremely motivated. It wasn't a case of 'Oh, everything's done now'.

"It's taken a long time to get there and to win those sorts of events. I know the feeling when you do win them now and it's worth all of the work that you put in.

"In the past, there were loads and loads of questions. I wasn't physically strong enough. I wasn't mentally strong enough. I didn't listen to my coaches. I was spoilt.

"Whatever it was, none of that really bothers me anymore. I'm just looking for ways to keep improving."

about Judy Murray

Speaking at the Australian Grand Slam Coaches’ Conference on Friday, Judy drew the parallels between having a talented tennis junior of her own with the fluctuating fortunes of Australia’s own Bernard Tomic. She attributes the final piece in the Murray mind puzzle to the influence Ivan Lendl had since taking the coaching reins in December 2011.

“The thing that has impressed me most since (Andy) started working with Ivan is the focus, it’s absolutely massive. You see it with Djokovic, Rafa and Federer; the eyes are on the goal – we’re going to do absolutely everything we have to do to get there,” she said.

“I think it comes with maturity. Sometimes you just have to wait until a player’s ready in their mind to do it and maybe that’s something you guys in Australia (are) witnessing a little bit with Tomic.

Pre-tournament press conference with Andy Murray

Q. Has anything changed since last year?

ANDY MURRAY: Anything changed?

Q. Yes.

ANDY MURRAY: In what respect?

Q. In the global tennis way.

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I mean, obviously last year was by far my best year on the court. You know, I had my first Wimbledon final, the Olympics was obviously a great experience, then my first Grand Slam after that.

So, I mean, obviously it was aided as well by Rafa not playing. But I finished with my highest ranking that I ever finished before. So there were a lot of firsts for me last year, and that's pretty important.

I was always saying, once you get to sort of your mid 20s, and I'd been around the same ranking for a few years, it's important to try and find things to improve on and do things that, you know, you've never done or things you haven't achieved before.

So that was obviously great to have been able to have done those things. And I'll try and build on that this year.

Q. Does it feel like there's a monkey off your back as a Grand Slam winner?

ANDY MURRAY: I think for most tournaments, yeah, it feels that way. Not just Grand Slams. You know, I kind of maybe always felt like I was having to prove something every time I went on the court, you know, 'cause I hadn't won a slam. You know, even when you win a Masters Series, people still asked me always about the slams.

So it's nice just to kind of not have to worry about that anymore. I think it will help me throughout the rest of the year, as well, on the tour 'cause I just won't be worrying and thinking about the slams all the time, I can focus on all of the events that I'm entered in.

Q. You've been quoted several times as saying you never felt quite so relaxed coming into a Grand Slam. Could that relaxation almost have a negative effect? Do you need to be more revved up?

ANDY MURRAY: I'm very revved up. That's not the issue. I didn't at any stage say that I was 'very relaxed.' I feel more relaxed than I have done the week before a slam. In the past I think that's going to kind of be natural. I felt that way after the US Open and most of the tournaments I played between then and the end of the year.

But, yeah, I mean, I didn't work hard in Miami, you know, in the off season to come in and just not be focused or too relaxed or anything like that. I mean, I didn't train over there for four weeks to come here and put in a really bad performance.

So, you know, I plan on playing well here.

Q. One statistic that people have mentioned is that the first time Grand Slam winners, in the open era, no first time Grand Slam winner has gone on to win their next Grand Slam. Is that something you're aware of? Have you thought about it? Have you thought how you might deal with that?

ANDY MURRAY: I wasn't aware of it. But, like I've been saying the last couple of weeks, I have no idea how I'm going to play here. I have no idea how I'm going to feel when I go on the court.

I said I feel more relaxed. But I don't know the day when I play my first match, I could be unbelievably nervous. I don't know what effect it will have on me until I'm put in that situation.

But I also know, you know, how hard these events are a to win. If I don't win the Australian Open, I don't think it will be down to having won the US Open. It's down to the level of competition and how tough it is to win these events rather than what happened, you know, four or five months ago.

Q. Is there a little sense of unfinished business here, frustration maybe of last year's semifinal against Novak, and the two previous finals as well?

ANDY MURRAY: Obviously I want to try to take the extra step but in all of the Grand Slams, if I can. I mean, I learnt a lot from last year's semifinal. It was a very important match for me in the context of my year. It was very important. You know, I'm not frustrated that I got over that loss a lot quicker than I had some of my previous slam losses.

I felt like I played well. There was something I could really take away from it. And, yeah, that's why I was disappointed obviously, but it wasn't frustration.

Q. You said you learnt a lot. What else did you learn from that semifinal?

ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I could go through a huge list of things I learnt.

Q. How about four.

ANDY MURRAY: It was my first tournament obviously with Ivan. We chatted a lot before the match with Novak. When I sat down with him a month beforehand, a month and a half beforehand, you know, we discussed those sort of matches, how I was going to play and perform against guys like Novak, Roger and Rafa, tactics, how I was going to go about the match. I learnt to win those matches, I have to go out and do what I did that day.

I mean, you guys saw the match. I don't need to go into huge detail about it. The way I went about the whole match was the right way. Even though I lost it, also the same thing happened at Wimbledon. I went about the match the right way. I was just a few points away from being a set and a break up. I felt that was the main thing that I learnt from it.

I was playing the right way in those matches. I was taking my chances. I wasn't waiting for the guys to miss. I think that's why those two matches in particular I got over a lot quicker than the previous slam final losses or slam semi losses.

Q. Do you feel your game is stronger now than it was 12 months ago?

ANDY MURRAY: I think it changes every year. There's certain things that sometimes on the court you can feel great, sometimes you might not feel as quick as you would like, so you work more on your speed. Sometimes you may feel like you're struggling in longer matches, so you work more on endurance.

You know, that's the thing over the course of your career. I think you learn to make adjustments to the way you're practicing or the way you're training, you know, depending on how you're feeling.

I mean, I feel good just now. I've been practicing well. I've been moving well in practice. Yeah, just changed a few things in training like we always do, make adjustments.

What I did in December this year will be different to what I do after Wimbledon this year. Depends on the period of the year and what you're trying to get out of it.

transcript of Andy's presser continued

Q. Do you sense the rivalry with Novak is going to build over the next 12 months?

ANDY MURRAY: I have no idea. I mean, I know, like I said, how hard it is to compete at this level and how tough it is to play well in the slams and give yourself a chance to play against those players.

Not worth making any predictions about rivalries or whatever. But, you know, when I do play against him, it's a match I enjoy. They're incredibly tough, physical matches. We played quite a few good ones last year in some of the biggest events. If I get to play Novak here, that would mean it would be in the final. So obviously that's what I would like to do.

But I know how hard it is to get to the latter stages of these events.

Q. I remember a few years ago now you and he played doubles together.

ANDY MURRAY: Had massive hair.

Q. You came into the interview room. He was quite taken aback by the interest because the Serbian press didn't travel as much as us. You were both sort of matey together. What is the mood like now that you've played the big ones together?

ANDY MURRAY: I mean, we get on well. Never in any matches have I had any problems with him, in practice. We've never had any issues with each other in the whole time we've been on the tour.

I know you see it in boxing. You find it amazing that after watching guys, you know, punch each other for 12 rounds, they hug each other at the end, they have more respect for each other after that.

I think after the matches we've played over the last year or so, you know, they have been incredibly physical, they've been tough. It has been pretty painful at times, some of the matches. But I think our respect for one another has probably grown over the last 18 months or so. But we never had any problems with each other.

Q. Can you not be as sociable with each other as you used to be?

ANDY MURRAY: No. I mean, I chat with him all the time and with his team when we see each other. I don't really speak to him about tennis really ever, which I think is kind of normal. I wouldn't ask him like how he feels he's hitting his forehand or anything like that (smiling). I discuss other things with him.

That's the one thing, we probably wouldn't talk about tennis much.

Q. What do you think about the match against Robin Haase?

ANDY MURRAY: Well, tough match. I mean, he's a very good player. He's very talented. I had a tough match with him at the US Open a few years ago. He likes playing on big courts. You know, he tends to come out firing and going for big shots, playing extremely aggressive. So, you know, I'll need to be prepared for that.

Yeah, like I say, when I did play him at the US Open a few years ago, it was a very, very tough match. I expect the same thing here.

Q. Do you remember the other time you played against him?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah. I played him in Rotterdam, I mean, I don't know what year it was, but it was five, six years ago probably. Yeah, like I say, it's a tough match for me. I'll need to be ready.

Q. Jamie Baker is on court. I think he took a lot from what you did together in Miami.

ANDY MURRAY: You'll have to ask him about that. He trained well and worked hard, like always. I saw he won the first set of his match against Donald. I mean, I hope he can pull through.

Q. How much of an achievement would it be for Jamie to qualify in?

ANDY MURRAY: I think it would be great. It would be great for him. You know, he's probably one of the lowest ranked guys in the quallies, as well. Donald has been a very, very good player. So if he can come through against him, that will give him a lot of confidence.

And also Ward has done well, too. I saw he was down a break. It would be nice to see a few guys in the main draw.

Q. (Indiscernible) the week for his determination to return to the game. Can you talk about how much you admire his spirit in confronting this illness?

ANDY MURRAY: I don't want to go into too much. That's something for him to talk about. I speak to him a lot. He's one of my closest friends. He's obviously going through a tough time just now. I think everyone needs to try and respect that. He needs all the support he can get.

I've been passing it on to him, but everyone on the tour from stringers, coaches, players, everyone's right behind him and extremely supportive. That's what he needs.

Q. That seemed really impressive from the start. Did it feel that way to you?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it was a good start. I mean, it was very different conditions to what it's been the last four, five days. So the court was playing much different. Bouncing a lot higher. It's much livelier.

Yeah, I thought I did a pretty good job from the start of dictating the points and not giving him too many freebies.

Q. What did you make of the singing fans that supported you?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I think it's the same group of guys that come every single year. So, yeah, they've been there, yeah, I would say at least four or five years. They've been coming to watch. Try to sort them out some tickets when we can.

Yeah, they're good support and pretty amusing songs. Although I think they haven't come up with too many new ones, so challenge them to that.

Q. Are they Australians?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah.

Q. Do you know anything about your next opponent, Sousa?

ANDY MURRAY: A little bit. I don't know too much about him, but I've seen him play a couple of matches during the clay court season last year in Barcelona. I saw him play. I also saw him a little bit at the French Open, as well.

I've never practiced against him; never played against him.

Q. Physically are you exactly where you want to be body wise? Not so much fitness, but you seem to fill your shirt out perhaps even more than you did 12 months ago.

ANDY MURRAY: Most of the weight that I put on is in my legs, but the T shirt I'm wearing is tighter. It's not that I'm any bigger in my upper body. It's just because of the tightness of the T shirt, maybe it appears that way.

Q. But are you where you want to be physically?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I think, you know, you train hard and prepare the best you can and then see where it takes you when you get into the tough situations, the hard conditions. Especially here, it can be extremely hot, which it probably will be on Thursday. You know, then throughout the year you make adjustments based on how you're feeling.

But I trained hard to get ready for this event.

Q. Is there a bit of relief about getting the first game of the season at this Open out of the way?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I mean, I started the year well in Brisbane, but obviously coming into the slams the first match is normally pretty tough.

You know, there's nerves in the buildup. You just got to try and focus and play solid, you know, not make too many silly mistakes.

I did a good job of that today. It's always nice to get through the first round of any tournament, but especially here.

Q. Do you even feel nerves with your success?

ANDY MURRAY: Everybody does. I don't think there's anyone that doesn't. I think nerves are a good thing. If you aren't nervous, it shows that you're really not that bothered.

When the nerves are there, sometimes it can be, you know, for 10, 15 minutes before you go on the court or the beginning of the match or the evening beforehand. You know, they can affect you at different times.

But it shows that you care, and that's the positive you take out of it. Often when you are nervous, you can play your best tennis.

Q. Did it feel noticeably different walking out as a major winner?

ANDY MURRAY: No, not really. I think I've been asked that question a lot. It didn't feel much difference to me. Still nervous before I went on to play the match.

You know, I think when I would see the benefits of that is if I get myself deep into a slam this year and you're playing against the top players, that's I think when you'll draw on that experience and use it in the right way.

But I don't think it makes, you know, personally a huge amount of difference to how you feel at the beginning of events.

Q. Is it tricky that everyone is understandably looking to the last major and all you want to do is look forward?

ANDY MURRAY: No, it's not a bad thing. I've often had to look at majors, having lost in finals or having lost in tough semifinals. It's nice to have that memory of having won one.

But, yeah, doesn't matter what anyone else is doing; it matters what I'm doing. I'm focused on this event, and I trained really hard to get myself ready for it.

So whether everyone else is still thinking about the US Open or not makes no difference to me.

Q. I think the forecast is for about 39 degrees on Thursday. Does that make you more concerned about where you are in the schedule at all, what time of day you play?

ANDY MURRAY: No, I mean, you know, obviously preferably when there's a bit of shade on the court in temperatures like that. It obviously helps.

But, yeah, I mean, half the draw's going to be in the same situation. Whether you play at 11:00, I mean, it's going to be really warm in the evening as well, but obviously not quite so bad.

But, yeah, for a majority of the day, it's going to be tough conditions to play in, and need to be ready for it.

Q. Did you check in which half of the draw Janowicz is in?

ANDY MURRAY: It wasn't the first thing I did when I saw the draw, no. I didn't focus on that too much. But I'm pretty sure he played yesterday. I saw him warming up for his match, so...

I see he's in the top half.

Q. There has been so sad news today about Brad Drewett, the ATP World Tour chairman stepping down. Do you have a message for Brad?

ANDY MURRAY: Of all the people in his position, since I've been part of the ATP, I spent more time with him than I did with any of the other guys before him. We had, you know, numerous meetings with him, with the Grand Slams, you know, chatted to him a lot privately, as well.

Yeah, it's obviously very shocking news. Very sad. You know, he's done a very good job for the tour. He's done a good job of bringing the tournaments together and arranging, you know, the meetings we had with the slams. He's definitely had an impact in the time he's been working there.

So, yeah, it's a big shame to hear something like that happen. Hope he's okay.

The Times: (http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/tennis/article3658017.ece) Majestic Murray moves easily into second round of Australian Open (£'s required).
extracts below

In a manner of some comfort, interrupted only by a few scorching winners from his opponent, Andy Murray moved into the second round of the Australian Open on a day when the only cloud on the horizon was a shattering blow to the leadership of the sport.

No sooner had the sport united to send their best wishes to Hutchins back in England, than they were tending to one of their own in Australia where Brad Drewett, the local boy who has risen through the ranks to become the executive chairman and president of the ATP World Tour, has had ALS, or motor neurone disease, diagnosed.

Haase is a complex player. He had led Murray by two sets to love in the second round of the 2011 Open in New York, only to be confounded by the brilliance of the Scot’s recovery powers. He needed to display nothing like that this time in near perfect blue-sky conditions, for once he had broken the Dutchman’s second service game, the match was almost entirely on his racket, a performance full of powerful control, clinical execution and command of his position on the court.

Sydney Morning Herald (http://www.smh.com.au/sport/tennis/the-body-of-evidence-now-murray-muscles-in-20130115-2crlq.html) - The body of evidence: now Murray muscles in

''He's a year older - we all get a bit bigger,'' said Murray's fitness coach Jez Green. Murray reckons he's just wearing a tighter shirt, an excuse trotted out by males down the ages to explain a ''fuller'' appearance, albeit elsewhere above the belt.

In his pectoral muscles and across his back, Murray looks bigger, more chiselled; he has the upper-body drivers to complement legs of steel, which is where he says any weight gain has taken place.
.....

In the locker room after Tuesday's 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 stroll, Haase praised him for the quality of his opening set, when the Dutchman felt he hit plenty of strong second serves, and was still blasted out of points. ''The way he returned today, from the start, that's the best you can get.''

Re the doping article in The Australian (link above) - earlier today I read a report in a French newspaper with Rochus' full allegations - happily the Australian did not give the names of his unsubstantiated claims (presumably they have libel laws in Australia but not in France) - he even accused Soderling of doping and faking his mono to cover it up, which is obviously ridiculous.

Andy's press interview folling Sousa - http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/news/interviews/2013-01-17/201301171358403307547.html

Q. Have to feel pretty good after that.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it's actually all right when the sun was kind of behind the clouds. It was fine. When the sun came out, it got really hot really quickly.
A good match to get done in straight sets.

Q. Is it sometimes harder to play a match like that because you'd be conserving energy?
ANDY MURRAY: I got up a couple of breaks pretty quickly in the first two sets so I could kind of play, I don't mean loose points, but I could try to shorten the points, which helps.
I also served well today, too. I got a lot of free points on my serve.
There was very few long rallies. So it worked out well for me because it was really, really tough conditions.

Q. Can you remember playing in tougher conditions anywhere?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah. It wasn't that bad on the court, honestly. When the sun came out, it was extremely hot. When it wasn't, it was fine. There was no humidity.
They said it was like 8% humidity. When you get the combination of the heat and the humidity is when it's normally at its worst.
I've played in worse conditions, but it's still very hot.

Q. Does heat pale with insignificance compared to the wind like the match you played against Berdych at the US Open?
ANDY MURRAY: I think it depends on the match really. Like I said, there was very few rallies today. You know, if there was a lot of long rallies, the heat can become extremely difficult.
When I played in the wind at the US Open, it's tough on your footwork and your timing, so you need to stay calm and patient.
When you're playing in that heat, it's very, very difficult to focus when you're really out of breath. That's the thing that's hard, is to remain focused. When it's really hot, it can get very challenging. I saw a couple of matches went five sets and really, really long.
I'm sure after three and a half hours in that heat, the shot selection is probably really not that great.

Q. What do you think about Davydenko/Federer tonight?
ANDY MURRAY: About the match?

Q. Yes.
ANDY MURRAY: I think it will be a good match. I practiced with Nikolay before the tournament. He's hitting the ball well.
He obviously had a good start to the year in Doha. He's playing with the racquets that he was playing with when he had most of his success.
But I'd expect Roger to win.

Q. Do you like meeting successful sports stars? I'm wondering what you think of the appointment of Gordon Strachan in Scottish football?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, we have a lot of great managers. I mean, he's obviously one of them. He's been very successful for a long time. He's fun. I enjoy listening to his interviews. He's a fun guy.
I mean, obviously we'll have to wait and see how he does. But Scotland have got I think some of the best managers in the world.

Q. You hit with Berankis in Brisbane?
ANDY MURRAY: I actually hit with him a lot. I trained with him before the Australian Open last year. I practiced with him in Brisbane and I practiced with him a couple times before the tournament here, before he started the qualifying last year. I practiced with him again in Brisbane this year.
He works hard. He's a really nice, really nice guy. Nice to see him do well because we spent quite a bit of time practicing together.

Q. He's obviously won four matches in a row now. Is that something you think about?
ANDY MURRAY: He's won five, unless he got a walkover (smiling).
But, yeah, he plays well. He is not that tall and he hits the ball pretty big from the back of the court. He plays aggressive. He's a very flat hitter of the ball.
Yeah, he's obviously playing well to beat a guy like Mayer that comfortably. It was a very good win.

Q. Is it fun having the British women like Watson and Robson around?
ANDY MURRAY: Fun? I haven't spent that much time with them. I obviously see them around, in the gym, whatnot. But I just think it's nice to have more British players around the tournament.
We had Anne Keothavong in the qualifying, as well, the two young girls, Jamie Baker qualified. We have five or six guys playing in the doubles, as well.
It's just nice to have more British players around the big events. But I haven't spent too much time with the girls here.

Q. You talked earlier about your new shirt, how it's tighter than the previous years. Was that a conscious decision, to change your style on the court?
ANDY MURRAY: No. I didn't decide that. I just let adidas decide those things. I just play.

Q. When it's extremely hot out, like today, is it more comfortable in that shirt or is it more comfortable in the old baggy ones?
ANDY MURRAY: The only thing I don't like on shirts is if they come down too low and sometimes your elbows can get caught in the shirt. I mean, the less material there is on the shirt I think probably the better. There's less to get in the way.
But so long as they're tailored somewhat, I think there's no real problem.

Q. On a fashion note, to be silly, Robredo and Berdych seem to be wearing shorter shorts. It's like from the '70s. Would you ever see yourself in those type of shorts?
ANDY MURRAY: I actually wore a pair at Wimbledon when I was with Fred Perry that were short. Not quite like what Ivan and those guys used to wear on the court. I can't see a return to them, to be honest.
Yeah, they were a bit too short. Didn't leave too much to the imagination (smiling).

Andy's press interview after beating Berankis - http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/news/interviews/2013-01-19/201301191358583356074.html

Q. Gave you a good test.

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it was a tough match. He takes the ball very early, hits the ball very flat compared to most players on the tour. And when the ball is between, you know, his hips and his shoulder, he hits the ball extremely well. He's got very good timing. Yeah, he made it tough.

Q. Was it an advantage practicing with him, that you know his game so well?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I don't know whether it's an advantage or not. Sometimes, you know, when you play someone in a match you never played before, sometimes things you do on the court may surprise them a bit at the beginning of the match and vice versa; whereas today there's not really as many surprises. They know the things you do well. They know the things they can try and exploit. That's it.

But, I mean, he's a good person to practice with.

Q. Good situation to be in going forward? You've had a decent match today, but you must be very optimistic about what lies ahead of you.

ANDY MURRAY: I just focus on the next match. I'll need to play better than I did today.

You know, Gaël and Gilles are both tough players. They do extremely consistent. You know, Gaël is probably the best in my opinion athlete that ever played the game. When he's injury free, he's a very tough guy to beat. And Gilles the same. He's caused guys lots of problems before. You know, he pushed Roger to a very tough five set match here a few years ago. He's getting closer to the top 10 in the world. He had his own injury problems as well.

Both tough matches, and I'll need to play better than I did today.

Q. After the match you mentioned you hadn't been hitting the ball as well as you'd like in practice. When that's happening, how can you get your form back? Is it something that just comes back, or is there something you can do to rediscover it?

ANDY MURRAY: By playing matches and winning, that normally helps. All of the courts at the slams play differently normally. You know, very rarely do you get two courts that play exactly the same.

So sometimes when you switch courts, you know, from match to match, that can throw the rhythm off a little bit. And also, you know, I haven't played a match on the outside courts. I've practiced on them, but players have said they're extremely fast courts, as well; whereas the show courts tend to be a little bit slower. So that can sometimes play a part in it.

But, you know, we hit enough balls and practice enough that that shouldn't be a huge issue or maybe at the beginning of the match, to get used to the court again. But normally you find your timing by practicing a lot and then getting used to the conditions and the tournaments you're playing.

Q. Have you been doing all the practicing here on site? Somebody said they saw Ivan at Kooyong the other day.

ANDY MURRAY: I practiced there last year on my off days, I practiced at Kooyong. The year before I did a similar thing until the second week, because then it becomes a bit easier to get practice on Rod Laver or on the Hisense, whichever court you're playing on.

That's why we choose to practice over there, because it's quiet. You know, we can get on a big court. Sometimes when you practice on smaller, tighter courts, it can feel different, as well.

You just try and find the best solution for you, whatever's easiest.

Q. Are those court conditions, the pace...

ANDY MURRAY: Pretty slow over there. It's also extremely windy at Kooyong, as it always is.

Q. Roger talked about the year end Championships, maybe he'd like to see the courts speeding up in general on the tour. Maybe the fans would like to see more volleying. What are your thoughts as a fan and a player on the courts?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, to be honest, I don't know exactly. I think from most of the people I speak to, they enjoy watching the game the way it is now. Maybe there's not much variety in the styles of play, but there's a lot of reasons for that. I don't think it's just the court surface. I think, you know, the strings, the balls have definitely slowed down. I think rather than necessarily changing the court speed, speeding the balls up can make a big difference as well.

Sometimes variety in the courts is good. I just think it's important for the players in advance to know what the speed of the court is going to be. Sometimes, at some events, one year it's lightning quick, and then the next year it's been one of the slowest courts on the tour. It's impossible to prepare for that.

Provided everyone knows what the speed of the courts are likely to be, then I think it's fine to make some adjustments to that.

Q. You enjoy going forward personally?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it's something that isn't particularly easy to be because of the speed of the players these days and how good guys pass. But it's something I work on daily in practice.

You know, if there comes a time or surface where you need to do it you know, I played Nalbandian in Paris when it was extremely fast, and I played serve and volley for a majority of the second set and third set of that match because that was what the court needed.

So it's something that I practice.

Q. Just on your game, what is frustrating you most?

ANDY MURRAY: Nothing's frustrating me. I won in straight sets my first three matches. Every player wants to hit the ball well every day if they can. But the reality is it isn't always going to happen.

So, you know, I'm aware I'll need to improve. But, you know, you also don't necessarily want to be playing your best tennis the first round of a Grand Slam or of any tournament. You want to try and improve as the matches go on.

Yeah, I'm sitting here happy that I'm through to the fourth round having not having played my best tennis today. Hopefully I'll improve for the next one.

Q. You talked about being encouraging of more blood testing in tennis. After seeing the Armstrong interview, have your views on that evolved further?

ANDY MURRAY: Not really. I only saw the first part of it yesterday. Everything that everyone knew already was just kind of confirmed. That really hasn't changed my stance on it. I think it's something that all sports are now trying to improve their doping controls and make it better, you know, make sure that every sport's as clean as possible.

If that's more blood testing or the biological passports, you know, that's something we need to do and improve in tennis, as well.

Q. When Novak was here yesterday he said he'd only been blood tested once in the last six or seven months. Can you tell us how much you've been blood tested over the past 12 months.

ANDY MURRAY: I'd say four to six times every year. I mean, I'm not sure exactly how many. The last time I had a blood test done was in Paris. And then once every year I do my own sort of blood testing at the end of each year to make sure you're not low on iron, you know, or vitamins or whatever just as a checkup really.

But, yeah, I'd say four to six times a year.

Q. Are they all out of competition?

ANDY MURRAY: No, no, they're not. I mean, it depends what you classify as 'out of competition.' If you get tested three days before a tournament starts, I would say that's out of competition.

Yeah, I mean, I know after Wimbledon I got blood tested last year, after the final of Wimbledon. I got blood tested in Paris I think both times, after the French and also after I also got blood tested here last year I think when I lost to Novak.

Yeah, but I wouldn't say the majority of the blood tests we do are out of competition.

Q. Was Del Potro's defeat today a bit of a surprise to you?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I would say it was a surprise. He was the favorite for the match. But, you know, often there's surprises in Australia, at this event. It's the first tournament he's played this year.

Chardy, when he plays well, he's a very, very tough guy to beat. He serves huge. He takes a lot of risks. He has a big forehand. He's a tough, tough guy to play against.

I saw a bit of the match before I went on for my match. Chardy looked like he served extremely well and was very aggressive.

Q. For a while it looked like you were holding your shoulder. Is that all okay?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it was just stiff. I would say my first five, six service games, but in the warmup for the match as well, yesterday when I was practicing. But I felt fine pretty much after the first set.

Andy's press interview after beating Simon - http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/news/interviews/2013-01-21/201301211358761988239.html

Q. A strange match in some respects. You realized that Gilles' condition wasn't great. How did you approach it?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I mean, it was kind of tough. A tough situation for both players more obviously for him. You know, after the first few games, I mean, it didn't feel like that competitive. Sort of at this stage of a Grand Slam you're sort of geed up and prepared for a tough battle.

That's why it becomes hard because the emotions aren't quite into it. You're not quite necessarily feeling pressure, but you're wanting to try to finish the match as quickly as possible.

It was quite a tough situation for both.

Q. Are you quite happy in the fact you got the job done pretty efficiently?

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah. I mean, I think it was kind of always going be that way. I felt after the first few games, because he wasn't serving hard at all, you know, his forehand side wasn't moving that well either. It was just about trying to finish the match as quickly as I could and then getting ready for the next one.

Q. Any concern you haven't been as tested as much as you would have liked?

ANDY MURRAY: Who knows. I mean, he got tested very hard in his last round and couldn't compete today. You can look at it both ways.

You just got to work hard on the days off, practice all the things that you need to do better, hope that when the time comes that when you're tested you play better.

But I think this week, the first few matches, like against Berankis, I think almost every single time when I've been broken, I've broken straight back, which is a good sign.

Hope I can keep that up.

Q. What do you recall about the Chardy match? Did you see any of it today? The Cincinnati match.

ANDY MURRAY: I played him quite a few times. We grew up around the same time in juniors. Know each other pretty well.

The Cincinnati match was disappointing from my side. I normally play quite well against him. But he's playing good tennis. I mean, he's had some big wins this week. He serves well. He's very aggressive off his forehand. His backhand is his weaker side, for sure. He hits a lot of slice, doesn't come over it too much. He likes to come forward.

He can be erratic. But when his game is on, like it's been the last few rounds, he's a very tough player to play because he doesn't give you too much rhythm. And, yeah, he really goes for it.

Q. Did you watch much of Novak's match last night?

ANDY MURRAY: I saw maybe three points. I didn't hardly see any of it.

Q. You're aware of the story this morning suggesting the male players may boycott the US Open due to issues over prize money and a Monday final.

ANDY MURRAY: I didn't know about the story. Where did that come from? (Smiling.)

Q. Heard in the locker room or...

ANDY MURRAY: Since the player meeting, I haven't discussed with any of the players what was said there, what the plans are. But I know that the ATP are not particularly happy with the Monday final. I know that's an issue because however much revenue they make from having an extra day on their tournament hasn't really reflected in the increase in the prize money. That was what the players wanted, was obviously better prize money but not with an extra day to the event.

I think that's what they're disappointed with. But I personally haven't spoken with anyone about boycotting the event.

Q. You're playing another Frenchman now. He beat you the last time you played in Cincinnati. Considering that you were not in your best shape after the Olympic Games, does it make any significance for you?

ANDY MURRAY: The match in Cincinnati?

Q. Yes.

ANDY MURRAY: Well, I hope it maybe motivates me more. But I think that's why you need to make sure you put a lot of emphasis in every match on the tour.

Like I said, I played well against him in the past. If you go into a match, you don't play particularly well, you lose to a guy like Jeremy, when you play them in the fourth round or a quarterfinals of a slam, whatever, you know, they'll go into the match with a bit more confidence.

So it's relevant in that respect. But different conditions here. Hope I can play a better match from my side.

Q. Would you support a boycott of the US Open if it came to that?

ANDY MURRAY: I don't want to go into that here at all. Not the place for it. Got the second week of a slam to focus on. Can discuss that after the event.

GILLES SIMON: Well, the last match I saw between them, Jeremy won it. It's gonna be a match completely different. Jeremy's very aggressive. He has a huge serve, huge forehand. He's able to hit some winners at any moment.

It's going to be difficult for him also to recover from all the match he played. But Andy will have, of course, his chance to win. But it's gonna be interesting to see the beginning of the match, because if Jeremy manage to win maybe the first set, then I think everything can happen.

..........
Q. If Andy Murray wins the next match, you beat him in Cincinnati, what do you remember about that match and can you use it?
JEREMY CHARDY: Yeah, of course I can use it. I win already against him, so it's good for the confidence when you go on court. Last year I play a perfect match against him.
If I have to play against him again, it will be another match, a very tough match. So I have to continue on this way. If I have a chance, I have to try to take it because I think Andy is one of the best players. So it will be a tough match.

Q. Do you think it will be harder in a best of five?
JEREMY CHARDY: Yeah, it's more difficult because it's tough to win three sets in a row against big player. They have a chance to come back all the time, to change the game.
I don't want to think too much about this match. I want to enjoy this one first. Tomorrow I have one day. No doubles, no singles, so it's good. I will be focused on my match against him or Simon tomorrow night.

Q. Your first quarterfinal in a Grand Slam. How does it feel?
JEREMY CHARDY: Yeah, I feel so happy. I think quarterfinal, it's very good result. But now I can play quarters, so I feel very good. I play my best tennis. So I have to take my chance. If I play against Andy Murray or Simon, I have to believe in me and my game.

Q. You said you were nervous today. A bigger game next. Will you be able to control your nerves?
JEREMY CHARDY: Against my next one? Yeah, I think I have nothing to lose. It's always easier when you have to play with nothing to lose.
So if I play against Simon or Murray, I can go for it and enjoy my tennis, enjoy the quarter, but stay focused because I think I have a chance to win. So I have to believe it.
...........
Q. Can you talk about your knee a little bit. In the first set you actually took off some of the tape.
JEREMY CHARDY: Yeah, yesterday during the doubles against the Bryan brothers, during the second set I start to feel something in my knee. So I call the physio. Today I have the pain in my knee.
After I lose the first set, I say, No, I have to forget it because I can be in quarters. If I have pain everywhere in my body, doesn't matter, I have to play and try to find the solution to win today.
So I forget my pain and I just be strong in my head and that's it.
...........
Q. When you beat Andy in Cincinnati, what did you do well that day?
JEREMY CHARDY: I was serving very well first. I know if I play against him, I have to be very focused on my serve because it's very important. After every serve, I have to always take my chance because if I start to play a rally with him, I have no chance.
I have to try always something on his game. Sometimes he miss something, or if I make a good shot after 30 All or 15 30, I have to take my chance all the time.
I beat him like this. I breaked twice in the first set, and in the second I break him twice. I will try something. I play different every point. I think it's the way to beat him.

BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/21115739)- Andy Murray: The British number one answers your questions

Which former player would you most like to have had a chance to play? Simon Preece

"My coach, Ivan Lendl. No question. I hadn't watched many of his matches until I started working with him, then I started to watch some videos of his big matches. Now that I know him and have watched him a lot, he would be the most fun guy to go play. He was incredibly consistent, very rarely played a bad match, he did everything well - served well, good forehand, passed well, moved well.

"He improved his volleys a lot towards the end of his career as well to try and win Wimbledon. That was the sort of guy he was. He could have won more Slams, for sure. He missed a French Open to prepare better for Wimbledon, and when he started playing the Aussie that was on grass too. If the Aussie was on hard courts, I think he would have won more. Would I have beaten him? Depends on the surface. I think on clay he would have beaten me, on grass I think I might have beaten him and on hard courts... it would have been a good match!"

And badly translated at that, if it came from the article in the Mail which is all over the internet and did not have a single direct quote from any of Andy's team, did not mention anything said by Andy, but merely said that Lendl and Vallverdu "are both said to have made their opinions known to organisers".

Maybe they did, but Andy has publicly said that he understands why it happens. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/tennis/andymurray/9817790/Andy-Murray-disappointed-with-Australian-Open-draw.html

Murray said: "Once you get to the semi-finals or finals here, both matches will be in the evening.

"Ideally it would be nice to get a [quarter-final] match in the evening but if not you just get on with it.

“Sometimes the schedule works well for you and sometimes it doesn't work out perfectly.

"I've had scenarios like at the US Open where it worked in my favour.

"Wimbledon didn't necessarily work in my favour this year, or last year, and the first US Open final I played, it didn't work in my favour. But you don't dictate the schedule, you just try and play and deal with everything as best you can."

Q. There's been a lot of talk about the scheduling. Does it concern you that you haven't played a night match on Laver yet?
ANDY MURRAY: No. The scheduling for me is part and parcel of playing in really any tennis tournament. It's tough to make the schedule perfect for every single player.
But, like I said, I'll go out and hit balls on the Hisense tonight under the lights. I'll do the same again tomorrow, and that's it. If I was the tournament director or the referee or whoever decides the schedule, I also would have put Federer against Tsonga on as the night match tonight because it's the best match of the day.
So I have no complaints about the schedule at all, and I didn't complain about it the other day. I was asked a question about the schedule. I said that sometimes it works in your favor and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you have to make adjustments.
And that's why tonight, rather than going and watching this match, I'll go out and hit some balls under the lights to be as best prepared as possible.

Q. You seemed to get stronger as that match went on. Was that your feeling?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I mean, I started the match pretty well I thought. Then when he got a break back in the first set, I became a bit tight.
He's a tough guy to play against because of the nature of his game and his style. He goes for a lot of shots and, you know, he can play a couple of games where he misses and then, you know, three, four games he's hot and he makes very few errors and puts you under a lot of pressure.
So, yeah, that's why it's tough to play against him. But I thought I did a pretty good job throughout the match. There were a couple of games I could have done a bit better on, but for the most part it was good.

Q. Is it a relief for you to have that run of games at the end, to hit that sort of form going into the semifinals?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I mean, I think you have to trust yourself that, you know, when you are tested you're going to play better tennis. You never know for sure.
But, you know, in the buildup to the tournament I played very well. I haven't lost a set here yet. So, you know, maybe I'm expecting to play too well or whatever. But I've done a good job so far in this tournament. I can't be disappointed with where my game's at.
And, yeah, hope the next round I play better again.

Q. Where do you stand on the idea that you could be undercooked going into the semifinal because you've only played three set matches so far?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I mean, it kind of depends. You know, Roger has not lost a set yet. He has played some tough players, you know, and a variety of different styles. So I'd say he's been tested pretty well.
For me, I mean, today was a decent test. You know, really the last match was the one that was kind of a tough one just because, you know, normally against Simon, it's a lot of long rallies and it's a tough match against him. It was just kind of a nothing match. There was nothing really going on. There was no real atmosphere between us on the court. That was a tough match for me.
But, you know, who knows. I played a lot of tennis in December. I had some good matches in Brisbane. So, I mean, I can't be disappointed about being in the semis of a slam without dropping a set. That would be silly.

Q. It seems more than likely, assuming Federer wins, it will be the top four seeds again.
ANDY MURRAY: Don't assume that he's going to win. A few times in slams before I've been asked about playing Roger or Rafa. You know, it happens. The US Open last year is a good example. Tsonga's a tough, tough player.
So, you know, it's going to be a tough match. Roger's the favorite for it, but you never know in individual sports. Anything can happen. If one guy has an off night and someone, especially with a style like Tsonga, if he plays his best, it's tough.

Q. Three of the top four are in the semis already. Seems like that's happened with pretty good regularity on the ATP. Do you have any sense of why it happens on the men's tour but not on the women's tour?
ANDY MURRAY: I think the five set matches are probably a good reason for that. You know, the longer the match goes on, you know, someone like a Ferrer, for example, his game is so solid all the time, that to beat him over five sets … you know, yesterday was a perfect example of that. Almagro probably should have won the match.
For two, two and a half sets he was the better player, but you need to be the better player for three out of five. There are way more upsets in tournaments that are best of three sets in the men's just because you get off to a bad start and guys can get a quick win over you; whereas over best of five it often takes five hours sometimes to beat the top players in the world.
It's not easy.

Q. I think you're heading out to Hisense tonight for a hit. Is that as much for the lights?
ANDY MURRAY: It's purely for the lights, yeah. I mean, I played in Brisbane a couple of matches in the evening, but it's slightly different there, as well, because there's a roof too.
That's why I'll go out there. I'll hit under the lights tonight and do the same tomorrow.

Q. Going into the semis, do you feel different from last year after what you've achieved mentally?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, yeah, I mean, I feel probably a little bit calmer maybe than usual. But I still have an understanding of how difficult it is to win these events. You know, with the players that are still left in the tournament, it's going to be a very tough, tough few days if I want to do that.
So, you know, I'll just stay focused, work hard in my next couple of practice sessions, and, yeah, hope I can finish the tournament well.

And that's why tonight, rather than going and watching this match, I'll go out and hit some balls under the lights to be as best prepared as possible.

Q. Ivan Lendl was invited to watch the Davis Cup final in Prague. Did you watch the match?
ANDY MURRAY: I watched quite a bit of it. I was actually on holiday. I watched quite a lot of the fifth rubber. I saw none of the doubles. I saw a little bit of Ferrer's match with Berdych, not much.
I'm obviously very close with Alex who is the captain of the Spanish team, so I was following it for that reason.

Jonathan Overend BBC tennis correspondent at Melbourne Park
"Finding title-challenging form at this stage of the tournament, during a comprehensive and professional straight sets quarter-final win, must have been very satisfying for Murray. The first week may have been negotiated in straight sets but, by his own admission, he was a little out of touch. So what a relief to see the flow, rhythm and sweet timing return. He moved exceptionally well, served strongly and was ruthless on break points. The perfect preparation for a tougher test against an old rival in the last four."

The parts relating to Andy are below:

.......
Q. How much will the Wimbledon and Olympic finals matter coming into this game?
ROGER FEDERER: I think those two, but the World Tour Finals and Shanghai, so those last four matches, that's what I'll probably be looking at with my coaches and sort of go from there.
Obviously then the two Wimbledon matches are different. It's grass and you play different.
But, yeah, then the Olympics was playing much faster. So was Shanghai. This is a bit different here, but obviously I've played Andy now sometimes in the last sort of six months or a year since he's, you know, won the gold, won the US Open.
So I know what to expect; whereas it would be different if I hadn't played him. Because he has changed his game around a bit. He's playing more defensive. I'm looking forward to it. Obviously a great player, and I was very happy for him when he won his first Grand Slam and the gold.
So I'm expecting a tough match, of course.

Q. You had a lot of rivalries with a lot of players. What makes the matchup with Murray stand out for you?
ROGER FEDERER: Well, I've always enjoyed playing against him. I had some tougher runs against him in a short period of time. I played him in a few weeks or maybe a month or two I played him three, four times, was on some sort of losing streak, so that was sort of hard.
But I always enjoyed the matchups with him because it gets to be very tactical. Wasn't a straightforward match. He would make you doubt and play very different to the rest of the guys. I kind of always enjoyed that, you know, when it's just not every point's the same. We used to mix it up against each other.
Now it's changed a bit because he's playing more offensive. The rallies aren't as long and grueling as they used to be. We both can do that.
There were times when we also played against each other in semifinals when Rafa and myself were 1 and 2. Same as Novak. We played a lot in the semis.
My rivalry goes more into the semifinals always with Andy than more in the finals, even tough now at Wimbledon and the Olympics we played in the finals. I think it was nice for us for a change to play in finals against each other.

Q. I know you would like to win in three sets, but you expressed this sort of gratitude, if that's not too strong a word, for being part of a match like this. Is that the sense you have?
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I mean, look, absolutely. All the straight set matches eventually become a bit of a blur, no doubt about it; whereas the five setters stand out more. I've had some great ones over the years here at the Australian Open. I love watching night session tennis. Whenever it goes deep into a match, I want to not miss it.
I'm sure there's other tennis fans out there who like to see me and Jo Willie battle it out. So I always feel it's a privilege to be playing so late at night, on a center court, the crowd getting into it.
We were really playing good tennis, so it was even more enjoyable in the process.

Q. You never lost to Andy in a Grand Slam match.
ROGER FEDERER: Now that you say it, I look back and, yeah, it's true. But I don't go into it with a mindset that I've never lost to him in slams. He's beaten me so many times. He's beaten me more times than I've beaten him.
But I'm happy you've given me the positive news (laughter). Good vibe. I'll try to remember that when I walk out, but it doesn't play a huge role for me.

Q. He made you cry at the last two Grand Slams.
ROGER FEDERER: Okay, so we haven't played so much the last few years now, but he's obviously a different player today.
I like the matches with him. I think a lot of them are very close. I very often have come up with some great playing against him in the slams when it mattered. But we'll see if I can produce it again.

Q. You say Murray has a more offensive style now. Does that, in fact, play to your advantage in a way, because in the past when he was more of a defensive counterattacking player, he was often very effective against you.
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, he was, exactly. It's a fine line of being overly offensive or overly passive. It's hard to explain, but it's in the details, I guess.
I think the same goes for Tomic really. For instance, you want to be able to know that you can play offensive when it sort of presents itself. I think he's proven his point, that he can do it time and time again.
That's what matters I think the most for him now. In the moment itself, how offensive can you play when the ball is coming flat and hard into the middle, whatever. You have to know also when to back off.
He's very clever at all these things. He knows how it works. But I think it's especially on the return that you see the biggest significant change in his game overall if you look back now.

.......

Q. You said you haven't played a match like today's for some while. Is it an advantage that Andy Murray hasn't gone beyond three sets yet in this tournament?
ROGER FEDERER: No, not really. I would probably rather be in his shoes. Has he lost a set? I don't think he has. That's exactly how you want to approach a semifinal match, in my opinion.
But there's also some positives to take out of a five set match. I did play very well today, but I had moments as well where I could've done a bit better.
I toughed it out. That also gives you confidence when you have to go through those matches. The physical stamina was there, the focus with there till the very end. So it does give you a lot of confidence moving forward from here.
I didn't play any leading up tournaments, so that's exactly maybe what I needed for the semis. Then again, I may be totally wrong. Time will tell.

.......

Q. We're talking about advantages. Do you think it's an advantage to have played four in a row at night, whereas Murray has played none?
ROGER FEDERER: No. Because really we had a day off in between. Doesn't play that different after all. It wasn't scorching heat and stuff. If every day would have been 35 degrees it would have been a different story, but it wasn't.
I think we know the reasons why that happens, because of my draw more than not. It's hard to juggle all these things. I don't think it's an advantage, to be quite honestly. I don't think it's a big deal.

Andy Murray's Column in The Australian

:thanks: Mickey - I have found all of them on the blog archive of his website - http://www.andymurray.com/news-and-blog/archive/

I have not managed to find links for each one individually but there were columns written by Andy for The Australian on

Sunday January 13th
Wednesday January 16th
Friday January 18th
Sunday January 20th
Tuesday January 22nd

He is accepting questions for his blog - email address is below.

Finally, given I’m aiming to write columns all the way through the fortnight as that will mean I’m still in the tournament, I thought I might ask my readers if they have any questions they would like answered. The quirkier, the better! I can’t write about the heat all the time, after all.

If anyone would like to write, please do so through sport@theaustralian.com.au

On to my preparations for tonight’s semi-final.

I feel like I really stepped up my game against Jeremy Chardy on Wednesday but Roger is obviously playing good tennis as well.

After I’d beaten Jeremy, I headed straight back to the practice court to get some practice in under lights as Roger was playing Jo and I did the same thing again last night during Novak’s match with David Ferrer.

Given it is a night match, I tried to stay up a little longer last night so I was sleep later today.
Roger and I have played some great matches over the years and I can’t wait for this one!
Neither can we Andy!!!

Andy's press interview - http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/news/interviews/2013-01-25/201301251359124194856.html

Q. How pleased were you to get off to a good start in the fifth?
ANDY MURRAY: Obviously I was happy. It was a tough match. A lot of ups and downs. So it was good to come back after the way I lost the fourth set.

Q. What did you say to each other at the changeover after losing the tiebreak?
ANDY MURRAY: Didn't say much after the second set. I made a I mean, it wasn't a terrible volley, but I could have hit a better volley at 5 All in the second set tiebreak, so I was disappointed with that.
But I was playing well.
After the fourth set, you know, he went and took a toilet break and I had a bit more time to sort of think. You know, I'd put myself in a winning position and just had to think to myself what I'd done to get in that position and make sure I did it at the beginning of the fifth set.

Q. Did you draw on the US Open final in particular?
ANDY MURRAY: No, I wasn't thinking about that. I was just trying to look forward. Yeah, I mean, that match wasn't in my mind tonight.

Q. Do you think you've ever served as well over such a prolonged period as that before?
ANDY MURRAY: I don't know. I don't know. I mean, it's a tough one to judge. I did serve well tonight, that's for sure.
But, you know, whether I've served better or not, I don't know.

Q. Five sets in four hours. Do you feel that wasn't a reflection of the way you dominated the match?
ANDY MURRAY: I wouldn't say I dominated the match; didn't necessarily feel that way.
I obviously had more breaks of serve and stuff by the end. Because of that I assume I probably would have won significantly more points. I don't know, though, exactly.
But, yeah, I thought I did a good job tonight. I think I did all the things I needed to do. I did them well. Even, like I say, after the second and fourth sets, which were tough to lose, because, you know, I wasn't comfortable, but I was in, you know, good positions in both sets.
To lose them was tough. I was just happy with the way I responded after both those sets.

Q. How satisfying is it to have beaten him in a slam for the first time?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I mean, it's satisfying obviously. You know, I've obviously lost some tough matches against him in slams. So to win one, especially the way that it went tonight, yeah, was obviously nice.
You know, I'm sure both of us will play each other again in slams, so it will help having won once against him.

Q. He said that he always felt he was chasing. Did it feel that way to you, that you were kind of always ahead?
ANDY MURRAY: I think that's the way the score went. That's kind of how it was. I won the first set, and, you know, second set, you know, yeah, I was always up in the score for a majority of the match.
Really at no stage was I behind in the score, so that's probably why it felt that way. But he obviously hung in extremely well, you know, to force it into a fifth set.
After the way the match had been going, it was great the way he turned around because he played some big points when he was behind. It's what he always does.

Q. How surprised were you by what he shouted when you were at the net at 6 5 in the fourth? You had a funny look on your face at that point.
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I wasn't that surprised. I mean, stuff like that happens daily in tennis matches. You know, in sport, the stuff that some people say on football pitches and in basketball and all sorts of sports. I mean, it was very, very mild in comparison to what happens in other sports. It's just one of those things.

Q. Did it rattle you at all?
ANDY MURRAY: No. I think it didn't rattle me. I think he raised his game, you know, and that's what happens. Sometimes guys need to get, you know, emotion into the match.
He definitely raised his level and played in that game I think he hit two balls onto the line and was extremely aggressive after that.

Q. Can you repeat what he said?
ANDY MURRAY: It's not relevant what he said. You know, it doesn't really matter. It's something that happens, like I say, all the time on tennis courts, in sport, all the time.
Especially when it's a one on one sort of individual combat. It's not relevant. There's no hard feelings.

Q. Was it a word that we might struggle to get in our newspapers?
ANDY MURRAY: It's not relevant what was said, you know. I'm sure Roger won't talk about it and I have no interest in discussing it either, because, like I say, it happens all the time.
People will want to make a big deal of it and it isn't really a big deal.

Q. Your reaction seems to be very low key. You're keeping your calm. Is that because you still got one big step to go?
ANDY MURRAY: Uhm, no, I don't think it's just 'cause of that. It's a long, long match. It's a very late finish. I'm tired. I don't want to be wasting any energy, because I'll need all of it if I want to win against Novak on Sunday.

to be continued ........

Andy's press interview continued .....

Q. Between the fourth and fifth sets, do you know you're playing better? Were you sure that if you keep it at that level you could close it out?
ANDY MURRAY: To be honest, I was just trying to think what I'd done to get to that point, and I was just trying to focus on doing it at the beginning of the fifth set.
You know, you never know what's going to happen. The only thing you can do is play the right way, go for your shots when the opportunity's there, and hope that it pays off.
But, yeah, I mean, at any stage he can increase his level and your level can dip, especially in a four hour match. You just need to try and be focused for as much of the match as possible.
The beginning of the fifth set was the part of the match that I was most pleased with.

Q. This will be your first Grand Slam final as a Grand Slam champion. Is that going to make it easier or...
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I have no idea. I'll see obviously how I feel when I get on the court.
I would hope so. The task isn't any easier. I'm obviously playing Novak again on this court. I mean, this has been his best court for sure. So I'm aware of how tough it will be to win the match and what have you.
But, you know, hopefully there's moments in the US Open final where, you know, I could have closed out sets a bit quicker. I think the tiebreak was a good example of how nerves can work in those sort of matches.
It was not the prettiest tennis, so hopefully I'll play a little bit better.

Q. While not thinking of the US Open and the Olympics specifically, do you think they've made you mentally sort of more stronger, battle hardened?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I said a few weeks ago, I mean, those matches, I mean, have helped obviously mentally. I think going through a lot of the losses that I've had will have helped me, as well.
Yeah, I've been questioned for large parts of my career about physically would I be strong enough, mentally would it be strong enough, do I listen to my coaches, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, whatever it is, can I handle pressure.
I think those years of having all of those questions and then finally to be able to answer them I think, yeah, it was all part of the process. So I hope on Sunday I can play a good match. Obviously having won against Novak before in a slam final will help mentally.

Q. This court is said to be slightly slower and higher bouncing than the US Open one. If so, is it going to make it any easier for him to play against you?
ANDY MURRAY: Judging by our match that we played here last year and the one we played in New York, I don't think there was a huge amount of difference. I think the balls are slower here. Also, because you're playing in the evening, that will slow it down.
But I actually think the court here this year is playing fairly fast. You can get a lot of free points off your serve if you serve well like I did this evening. I mean, the courts aren't that dissimilar, it's just the time of day you play and the balls are a bit different.

Q. I know you're a massive fan of a lot of different sports. Would you enjoy tennis more if tennis had a little bit more of that rough edge to it publicly instead of sort of reserved gentility?
ANDY MURRAY: No. I know you guys would. But, yeah, I mean, I think tennis is doing just fine the way it is.

Q. You said you were feeling tired now. Are you confident you'll be fully recovered for Sunday, especially given the fact that you'd had five straight sets wins before tonight?
ANDY MURRAY: You never know how you're going to feel the next day. It's obviously late just now. Yeah, I'm sure I'll be tired tomorrow and stiff and sore, so I need to make sure I sleep as long as possible tonight, do all of the recovery stuff.
I'll hit very little tomorrow, I would have thought.
Yeah, just try your best to be in the best possible condition for Sunday. You know, realistically you're probably not going to feel perfect because of how the match went tonight, but it's not to say you can't recover well enough to play your best tennis.

Q. Are you doing anything special for Robbie Burns day?
ANDY MURRAY: Will I be doing anything special? No, no.

Q. Does the ball still come off his racquet as well as it did when you first played him?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I mean, I don't see major, major changes in his game. You know, he still hits the ball obviously extremely clean. He has his racquet strung very loose so the ball comes off his racquet with a lot of spin and it comes off his racquet quick.
You know, when he slices the ball stays very low. He's still serving very, very well. I think the serve's normally the first thing that goes, you know, with guys when they're getting towards the ends of their career. I think he's still serving pretty well.

Q. When did you start refueling with bananas?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I've always kind of had to eat them just because of what they have in them. It's good for you in long matches.
Just still not a fan.

Q. A year ago when you played Novak, have you got closer to him? Do you think he's also improved shots and whatever?
ANDY MURRAY: I think so much of it comes down to how you play on the day, to be honest. You know, I think I started to play better tennis and played my optimum level more in the big matches over the last year or so, which hadn't always been the case.
So I think that's kind of what's changed for me. I mean, two years ago he didn't lose a match for the first six months. It's tough to know whether you can actually improve from that.
But he's still playing well, he's No. 1 in the world. He was in the US Open final, French Open final, Wimbledon semis, and he's in the final here. So he's playing extremely well.

I do like this bit:

Federer also went away completely in the final set, and there were moments when he looked like an aging legend hanging on by his fingernails,
;)
and this bit as well ...

Federer, the old lion, had roared, and it was a fearsome sight. But that wasn’t a level he could sustain for an entire set, let alone a match. Reality, in the form of Murray’s methodically superior play, set in again in the fifth.
umm ... and this ...

And that's what this match was about, Murray's methodically superior play. While he was customarily blasé about it later—asked whether he had ever served better, Murray shrugged and said, “I don’t know”—it was one of the very best performances of his career. He hit 21 aces, created 16 break point chances, and cracked 62 winners against 47 errors. Federer’s stats were the reverse: 43 winners against 60 errors. Only his brilliance in the breakers made this one close.

That really is a begrudgingly miserable article by Tom Tebbutt who previously has been complimentary about Andy. He's also twisting the truth about the "face down" suggesting Andy was taunting Federer. It's clear from reading the press conference transcripts that Federer was the instigator with his volley of verbal abuse. Is he known as a Fed fanboy? He says Federer was better than Andy in 2012 because of his Wimbledon victory but glosses over the thrashing he received at the Olympics.

I hope he put some money in the bagpiper's box having taken and uploaded a photo of him or is he as mean spirited as he is in the article

TT is usually neutral and fair so it surprised me reading this article. I sent him a tweet saying he disappointed me. Years ago when he was the tennis writer for our national paper, Globe and Mail, I used to email him regularly and he seemed very excited about Andy. I just can't believe he could be so begrudging now esp. after Andy's amazing year.

I haven't had time to read more than a few of the articles, but I'm glad Reuters and Eurosport got things the right way round - Federer's outburst preceding Andy's smirk. I think Andy was probably just amused that Mr Cool had lost his composure.

There have been many more articles in the press about Andy over the last few months since he won the US Open, and I have only been posting a selection of them, otherwise there would be too many. The press is going crazy now. I hope to be able to keep up with the best articles from the major tabloids and BBC , Tennis Space and Eurosport, and a few links I come across, if I am not too bombarded with them, but I am unlikely to be able to keep up with all the others. So please can peeps look out for any good ones.

I'll post a few more articles later on this morning.

This article has an interesting piece about the swearing episode

New York Times (http://straightsets.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/01/25/for-federer-anger-goes-only-so-far/) - For Federer, Anger Goes Only So Far
Straight Sets blog

At 6-5 in the fourth set, with Andy Murray serving for the match and a spot in the Australian Open final, Roger Federer hit a ball close to the baseline that Murray thought was out. No call was made, and Murray pantomimed displeasure — just for a moment — then played on.

When Federer hit an approach shot and attacked the net, Murray laced a down-the-line forehand passing shot that fooled Federer. What happened next was straight out of the animal kingdom, as Federer glared, gestured aggressively, then yelled at Murray. Murray’s response was to curl his lips upward in a sneer, and for 10 seconds or so the two men looked more like bonobos or gorillas tangling territorially over a prospective mate than two of the best tennis players in the world fighting for a spot in a Grand Slam final.

Three points from losing the match, Federer’s pride and competitive zeal surfaced in a flash of anger, as he walked toward Murray and screamed his displeasure over what he perceived to be Murray’s attempt to influence the baseline judge.
.............................
In video of the point, Murray clearly reacts to Federer’s deep crosscourt topspin backhand, with a momentary pause as if to express his dismay over a missed call. Federer, who in addition to his sublime physical gifts is, to paraphrase Henry James, someone on whom nothing is lost, seemed distracted by Murray’s briefly seeming to stop playing. To a player who is concentrating intently in a point, such an unexpected pause is like half of the musicians in a symphony inexplicably stopping. That Murray recovered and hit a clean passing shot winner set Federer over the edge.

I checked that out and at the bottom there is a very interesting list of Tennis article Tags - in other words, the number of tennis articles on those topics available online in the New York Times. I think this is a very interesting ranking of a different kind:

ROGER FEDERER 247 RAFAEL NADAL 213 WIMBLEDON 168 FRENCH OPEN 165 SERENA WILLIAMS 133 ANDY MURRAY 127 TENNIS 124 NOVAK DJOKOVIC 121
ANDY RODDICK 106 VENUS WILLIAMS 78 U.S. OPEN 75 UNITED STATES OPEN (TENNIS) 75 UNITED STATES OPEN 74

DOUBLES 38 DINARA SAFINA 38 JO WILFRIED TSONGA 38 WOMENS MATCHES 37 JUSTINE HENIN 36 TOMAS BERDYCH 36 LI NA 34

Plenty to analyze there! When you take away the American influence, the tournaments and matches, and Roger and Rafa, what is interesting IMHO is that Andy has slightly more articles than Nole. You could argue that given Nole's form of the last two years, he should be streaks ahead of Andy, even although for Andy catching up in the last six months.
What I personally think this shows - and please disagree - is that the (dominant) English speaking media world would love Andy to be the replacement for Roger at the top of the game.

I'll be interested in Brad Gilbert's prediction, but he won't predict until nearer the match once he knows the conditions, e.g. wind speed and temperature.

I've read on another forum that Neil Harman has chosen to write in today's Times (unfortunately I can't read the whole article as I don't subscribe) about potential doping in tennis. Whilst it might be good to call for more testing, apparently the way it is written and the accompanying pic of Nole gives the impression that he has suspicions. This doesn't sound like the sort of thing we would expect from Neil Harman.

Apparently Neil does not have control of the pictures, and most likely someone else added the picture after Neil wrote the article.

Andy's press interview after losing the final - http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/news/interviews/2013-01-27/201301271359293971569.html

Q. Did you feel if you were going to win it, you were going to have to win it quicker than you won the US Open given the physical demands of your semifinal?
ANDY MURRAY: No, I mean, you never know. I think it was extremely the third set was very competitive. You know, a lot of the games that I lost in the fourth set as well were pretty tight games.
I was getting like quite a few Love 15s, 15 30s, Love 30s, and, yeah, I couldn't quite capitalize on my chances on his serve. That was a disappointing part.
But, I mean, obviously when you go two sets to one down, you know you really need to get off to a good start the beginning of the fourth set because, you know, most of the guys at the top of the game, when they get a lead and momentum, it's tough to stop them.
You know, like in the second set with me, I played a good second set. I created quite a few chances; didn't quite get them.
But that was the difference.

Q. Could you tell us what happened to your toe and if it restricted you in any way?
ANDY MURRAY: It's just a pretty large blister which, I mean, you get them. I mean, the US Open final I had two black toenails. I mean, it happens. It happens often, especially when you're doing that much running.

Q. Had it been an issue throughout the tournament or just today?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, today. But, I mean, when you're playing the points like we were there, the positions you're sort of getting yourself into on the court, you expect those sort of things.

Q. How did you pull up after the Federer match?
ANDY MURRAY: I was okay. I mean, I was stiff. It was a four hour match. You don't wake up the next day and feel perfect obviously. You know, especially when it's one of the first tournaments of the year, too.
You know, it's the longest match I played in six months probably. So, yeah, you're gonna feel a bit stiff and sore. I obviously felt a bit better today than yesterday. Yeah, I mean, I did all the right recovery stuff, ate well.
Yeah, it obviously wasn't an issue, you know, today. I mean, I started the match well. I thought I moved pretty good throughout.

Q. Why do you think it took you both so long to get a break in this match? It took over 30 games.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, that's the thing that was surprising. You know, I think the first two sets I had more of the chances in games on his serve. I think I had Love 40 the beginning of the second set.
Then obviously the third and fourth set, I think he broke at 4 3, got up Love 40, I saved a couple of them, and then he managed to break.
Yeah, that was obviously one of the differences. He just returned a little bit better. But it was surprising that there was so few breaks the first three sets.

Q. Was it a matter of serving better than usual or not returning as well as usual?
ANDY MURRAY: I think it's not the easiest court to return. It was playing fairly quick this year. Could be a combination of a lot of things. I don't know exactly why that would be.

Q. Did the blisters restrict you?
ANDY MURRAY: No. It's just a bit sore when you're running around. You know, it's not like pulling a calf muscle or something. It just hurts when you run.
But, yeah, it's not something that stops you from playing. You saw one of the guys at the beginning of the tournament, the guy Tomic played, I don't know if he burnt himself, but there's certain things that hurt when you run or hit the ball, especially blisters, but it's not something that stops you from playing or stops you from running for balls.

Q. When you talked to the umpire, were you suggesting people that were shouting out maybe be taken out of the court?
ANDY MURRAY: No, no. I didn't suggest that at all. I just said it's important, rather than wait till it gets to an extremely important point, to try and make sure you're a bit more vocal, you know, rather than waiting until it's 5 3, 40 Love for Novak in the third set.
That was all I said to him.

Q. Did you have a problem with your left hamstring?
ANDY MURRAY: No. When I played Roger, I kind of he had kind of like a low slice serve. I missed that and it kind of tightened up a little bit. It feels fine just now.
It's just, yeah, a bit sore when you're running around. But that's what happens with fatigue. You get sore; you get tired. You know, you don't feel perfect when you step on the court every single time.
When you play the rallies like we did tonight, you know, along with the match with Roger, that's what happens. It's part and parcel of playing these big events against the best players in the world.
With how physical the game is just now, that's just part of it.

Q. Would it be fair to say you were more upbeat after this than after your other losses here?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I mean, there's going to be some obvious reasons for me feeling a little bit better. I mean, the last few months have been the best tennis of my life. I mean, I made Wimbledon final, won the Olympics, won the US Open. You know, I was close here as well. It was close.
So, you know, I know no one's ever won a slam, the immediate one after winning their first one. It's not the easiest thing to do. And I got extremely close.
So, you know, I have to try and look at the positives of the last few months, and I think I'm going the right direction. This is the first time I've beaten Roger in a slam over five sets. I think I dealt with the situations and the ebbs and flows in that match well.
I felt much more comfortable on the court today than even I did at the US Open, so that has to be a positive.

Q. Have you had a chance to have a chat with Ivan? And what has he said to you if you have?
ANDY MURRAY: He said, Bad luck. That's it. There's no point going into huge detail about the match two minutes afterwards. We'll go away and spend a bit of time apart.
When I go to start training over in the States, we'll discuss not just this match but the start to the year and the things I need to improve on if I want to keep getting better.

Q. The way you and Novak play defense, is being a great offensive player sort of a losing proposition at this point? Roger in some ways is a relic.
ANDY MURRAY: No. I mean, I think the thing is I don't know if it's because of the racquets or whatever, but I've been using pretty much the same racquet for 10, 11 years now.
You know, but, yeah, I don't know. Guys have had to adapt the way they play because of the conditions, the balls, the courts slowing down.
But if you look at maybe not right at the top of the game, but guys like Isner and Raonic, you definitely need a massive weapon that can sort of take away the defensive play, you know, that you just can't get your racquet on balls.
You'll probably see more and more of that. The players certainly seem to be getting taller every year. There's obviously Isner, Raonic, Janowicz, he's a big guy. That seems to be the way the game's changing a little bit.
But I'm obviously not going to grow, so I hope it doesn't change too much the next few years.

Q. You said you felt more comfortable tonight than you did on court at the US Open. In what respect?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I said before the US Open match I was unbelievably nervous beforehand and was doubting, you know, myself a lot.
I didn't go on the court today having those doubts. I went on the court and felt pretty calm from the beginning of the match.
I was obviously still nervous, but I think I just felt I don't know more at home in a match like that on a court like that when you're playing, you know, for a Grand Slam title.
I mean, the first few times I played for a Grand Slam, US Open and here, you know, I definitely struggled with it. Now I feel more comfortable.

Q. Given the long time difference between your semifinal and Novak's, do you think in the future the tournament should look at having semifinals on the same day?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, that's something for the tournament to look at. Obviously, the US Open have made some adjustments with their scheduling, you know, to try and make it easier for the players to recover.
But I'm sure, like I said on the court, Craig knows exactly what he's doing, and they'll make the right decisions in that respect.

Q. The feather that drifted into the court, did that distract you?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I could have served. It just caught my eye before I served. I thought it was a good idea to move it.

Maybe it wasn't because I obviously double faulted. No, you know, at this level it can come down to just a few points here or there. My probably biggest chance was at the beginning of the second set; didn't quite get it.
When Novak had his chance at the end of the third, he got his.

Q. Just to be clear, the blister only occurred in this match? It wasn't a remnant from the Federer match or earlier matches?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I had no taping on my foot during Roger's match, and then obviously I had to have it done today. I very rarely get blisters.
But, I mean, 90% of the players on the tour will have played this tournament with some sort of blister or problem, you know. It had no bearing at all on the result. It just hurts a little bit when you run.
