Also expecting to play doubles with Feliciano in Montreal.
After playing with this brother this week in Washington, three-time Grand Slam champion Murray is due to partner Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the doubles at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, which begins on 5 August.
"For the most part, I'm going to practise singles and play doubles to compete and then each week I'm just going to see," he added.
"In terms of how I'm moving and feeling and pulling up the next day from these practices, I'm really happy with where I'm at. I think I'm quite close.
"If I keep progressing and feel good in three weeks' time then I'll play singles as soon as I'm ready.
"It's just to get to where I want to get to. I'll need to play matches and get a little bit more work done in the gym on my cardio."

Kyrgios was making his way off the practice courts and stopped to greet a large group of baying fans to sign autographs.
But his session was quickly interrupted as a tournament official pleaded with the crowd to make way for a player coming through.
Everyone stopped to look around and see who it was and they immediately burst into cheers as they realised it was former world No 1 Murray.
Kyrgios too had a big smile on his face as Murray made his way through to the courts and jokingly ‘booed’ as the British tennis star snubbed the autograph requests.

BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/49310493) - Andy Murray to play Zhuhai and Beijing singles tournaments in China
Former world number one Andy Murray is to step up his return to singles by playing events in Zhuhai and Beijing.
The Briton will make his singles return (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/49295370) at this week's Cincinnati Masters - seven months after fearing he might have to retire.
He has added the tournaments in China in September and October to his schedule but has not committed to playing singles at the US Open.
Posting this article again as it has been updated a few times.
BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/49295370) - Andy Murray to make singles return in Cincinnati at Western & Southern Open
Speaking after his quarter-final match (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/49303566) at the Rogers Cup in Montreal on Friday, world number two Rafael Nadal said Murray's return was "good news for the sport".
"Especially great news for him. That means that he's healthy," he added.
AnalysisJonathan Jurejko, BBC Sport
At Wimbledon, Murray began to get fed up with answering questions about when he would return to the singles court - insisting he did not know himself when his new metal hip would be ready to cope with the added workload.
Patience has been Murray's mantra since his competitive return in the doubles, refusing to commit to a singles event - and therefore not putting himself under the pressure of a timeframe - until he felt completely comfortable.
Hitting the weights in the gym to build up his strength was the focus post-Wimbledon before he headed over to the North American hard courts with a dual purpose: improve match sharpness by playing doubles in Washington and Montreal, and upping the workload on the singles court in public practice sessions.
Those solo outings, he says with a smile, did not leave him "completely embarrassed" as they might have done earlier in his comeback bid.
So, after further practices in Cincinnati with fellow Britons Kyle Edmund and Dan Evans this week, he is confident a return now will not be a mistake as he looks to prolong a glittering career which he felt might have already been over.
The next question is: will he play singles at the US Open? Murray has consistently said he would not want his first tournament back to be over five sets in New York. Playing over three in Cincinnati appears to leave the door ajar for a potential follow-up appearance at Flushing Meadows

this from the ATP site, re Andy's entry into Winston Salem (https://www.atptour.com/en/news/murray-winston-salem-2019-draw-preview) and is it just me or do you all agree 'titlist' is risible?

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but here goes! If you get a chance to find and listen to a podcast called Tennis Pal Chronicles, it would be well worth it. An American Andy Murray Fan Favourite reporter called Peter Childs is interviewed when he recalls his first meeting with Andy and why he is a fan. Peter also recorded a short interview with Mark Petchey in Cincy this week. Main message from Mark to Andy fans is, "Give him time. Be patient..." (We are, Mark, we are!) It made my heart swell with pride when I heard all those lovely words spoken about Andy. As I said, really worth a listen.

But after the success of the operation, his surgeon Sarah Muirhead-Allwood was among those persuading him to give top-level tennis one last go – in part because medics wanted to see just how robust the relatively new treatment can be.
They hope it could be the gateway to similar operations on other leading sportsmen.
“The lady who operated on me at the beginning said, ‘You can try, but don’t have such high expectations’,” Murray recalled.
“Then at some stage during the rehab I said, ‘You know what? I feel great. I have no pain in my hip and I am happy. I don’t need to play tennis’.
Then it was her who started saying, ‘Oh no, you should give it a go!’
“Doctors need to gain confidence in the operation. I am hoping with me doing what I am doing maybe it will make people think they, too, can have the operation.”

Does that mean he'll actually be seeded 2 or that he's guaranteed entry as an unseeded player.
PR means he goes on the entry list at his former ranking of #2 BUT it has no bearing on the seeding for the event. If he's still outwith the top 32 (highly likely) he won't be a seed, just another player in the draw.
Guardian, on the Murray v Fognini matchhttps://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/oct/08/andy-murray-fabio-fognini-shanghai-masters
from Tumaini Carayol, "Murray’s metal hip is still recovering but in Shanghai he has shown that his serve is already more potent, he is moving magnificently for a man who underwent hip surgery in January and his doubles play has inspired him to flit to the net more frequently."

Times (https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/andy-murray-and-fabio-fognini-continued-furious-row-in-locker-room-h6v3j6pcj) - Andy Murray and Fabio Fognini continued furious row in locker room
Sources have told The Times that Murray, the three-times grand-slam champion from Great Britain, and Fognini, the world No 12 from Italy, were involved in another heated verbal exchange behind the scenes at the Qizhong Forest Tennis Centre. A small number of players, coaches and officials watched awkwardly as they aired their grievances with each other in a communal area.
Murray was also displeased with the umpiring of Fergus Murphy, who failed to penalise Fognini for hindrance and quickly lost control of proceedings. It has not gone unnoticed that the Irishman was also in the chair when Murray had a similar argument with Juan MartÃ*n del Potro at the Rome Masters in 2008. On both occasions, Murphy had told Murray to allow him to resolve the issue and then done little about it.
It makes me wonder just how accurate Murray was in saying "he does it all the time". If Fognini does shout 'quite frequently', lets put it, the umpires must be hearing it. I've never heard it mentioned though. Line judges at the back must hear him too. ??
This is a good read and nice to know Andy wants to be enjoying his last few years on tour:)
Telegraph (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2019/10/15/andy-murray-interview-whenever-did-not-want-carry-kim-helped/) - Andy Murray interview: 'Whenever I did not want to carry on, Kim helped get me back on court'
As Murray (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/0/dont-need-tennis-happy-andy-murray-feminism-family-fighting/) admitted this week, Kim has played a central role in his recent resurgence. Sidelined for the best part of two years by an arthritic hip, it would have been easy to admit defeat. But she kept bucking him up, and he kept experimenting with different options, from an arthroscopy in January 2017 to new-agey rehab techniques in Philadelphia six months later. Without her support and boundless positivity, he might already have retired.
“There’s a number of times in the last two years that I had stopped,” Murray explained on Monday, as we sat in a deserted corner of Antwerp’s Lotto Arena. “I was like ‘I don’t want to do this any more.’ But Kim, she was always trying to keep me going, and trying to help get me back on the court, stay motivated, and always happy for me to go and train and go away and stuff.”
“She’s just been very understanding of everything that I’ve done,” said Murray this week. “Like going away for training blocks in Miami after a really long year and things like that. It might not seem like much but we don’t get to see each other all of the time and it does make a big difference when you don’t have drama in your personal life and lots of things going on away from the court. She has been brilliant like that, allowed me to pursue my career and been unbelievably supportive of me. So I’ve been very lucky.”
“I just want to enjoy these last few years on the tour,” he said this week. “I think over the last few months the body is starting to understand what it has to do again.
“In Asia, my movement felt more normal. It was at a level where I could be competitive. Whereas when I was in the States and in Mallorca [both in August], playing in my first few matches, I watched them back and I was like ‘Nah’, because it didn’t look great.”

Hope not. But if there is a genuine risk then it is possible to take suplements to mop up the excess metals I guess. This is just one person's take on it and it does not mean he is right.
Tennis 365 (https://www.tennis365.com/tennis-today/tennis-today-top-surgeon-warns-andy-murray-he-faces-catastrophic-consequences-if-he-continues-comeback/)- Tennis Today: Surgeon fears Andy Murray could face ‘catastrophic consequences’
However, he has been warned by a top surgeon that he is risking ‘catastrophic consequences’ to his body by continuing to pursue his tennis career after hip resurfacing surgery.
“To be honest: I would not have thought such a thing possible,” Rudiger told Swiss newspaper Blick. (https://www.blick.ch/sport/tennis/arzt-nach-murray-wunder-skeptisch-murray-geht-ein-grosses-risiko-ein-id15576680.html)
“For me it was a mission impossible to reach such a level with an artificial hip again. But Murray is also taking a high risk.
“The operation is known as ‘Birmingham Hip Resurfacing’. In the implanted prosthesis, two metal surfaces rub against each other.
“Ten years ago, this method was already used in Switzerland – often with catastrophic consequences.
“The hips had to be replaced much faster than with the conventional surgeries – such procedures damage the body sustainably.
“The stop-and-go movements are extremely damaging, the more so at the professional level.
“It comes to the fact that the abrasion of the plates can lead to cobalt poisoning in the blood.
“The bones can be attacked, also nerve and visual damage are possible.
“I actually got requests for ‘Birmingham Hip Resurfacing’ interventions.
“But I do not use this method on principle, and I do not recommend it to anyone.”

3) Murray, again, underscores the importance of reputation. The next person not to resist smiling at this story will be the first. Who among us isn’t happy for the guy? Some of this is the simple comeback story and the triumph over injury. But it’s more that he’s a good and honorable guy who treats people right, deploys wit, and has real principles. If you are an athlete described as “polarizing” do you not look at Murray with both envy and self-reflection? It’s much less about winning majors than it is treating people (and the sport) right.

Andy Murray is hitting the ball 7mph faster on his backhand side and his ball toss on his serve is the best it’s been for some time. Those two factors helped Murray triumph over Stan Wawrinka in the ATP tournament final in Belgium last weekend according to Mark Petchey, a renowned tennis statistics expert and former coach t Murray himself
Sport 24 (https://www.sport24.co.za/Tennis/ATPTour/judy-murray-hails-rebirth-of-son-andy-20191023) - Judy Murray hails 'rebirth' of son Andy
"If he is well, Andy is capable of anything," Judy Murray said of his return in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport on Wednesday.
"In a few days Andy and Kim's third child should arrive," she continued.
"We'll all go to London, great-grandmother included, to celebrate all the events at once. After all, it's also a rebirth for Andy."
.......
The 60-year-old watched Sunday's victory at home.
"How did I celebrate? I opened a bottle of champagne and toasted his health in front of the TV.
"Then I sent him a voice message to tell him how happy and proud I was of him.
"I told him that this trophy is worth a lot. Because it's a victory of perseverance and resilience.
"Now he's fine, he has a wonderful family, he can look to the future without fear and pain at last.
"But he is such a warrior on court that I knew he would not give up."

Me too!
http://www.tennis365.com/atp-tour/andy-murray-opens-up-about-pushing-himself-too-hard-i-should-have-backed-off/ I wonder what would have happened if he did have the hip operation a lot sooner.
Telegraph (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2019/10/26/andy-murray-exclusive-interview-everything-do-around-tennis/) - Andy Murray exclusive interview: 'Everything I do around tennis is more enjoyable - just being away has made me appreciate sport'
The original interview.
“The only thing I wish is that I had had this operation sooner,” Murray said. “But I didn’t know because no one [in tennis] had gone before. A lot of the people I had spoken to had suggested it was not really an option to play sports afterwards. But then when I spoke to the athletes who had had the operation and gone back to playing sports, they were like, ‘Yeah it felt great. It was brilliant.’
“Then I started speaking to Bob Bryan [the veteran doubles champion who had the same operation in August last year and made a triumphant return to the court five months later]. That’s when I decided to go for it. But it was also not something that was presented to me until he had done well with it.
.....
So why did he throw himself so vigorously into his off-season training block in 2016? It was a notoriously intense couple of weeks, supervised by the unblinking presence of his then-coach Ivan Lendl. In hindsight, Murray acknowledges this was a beasting too far, especially after he had just reeled off five straight titles to finish the season as world No 1.
“Maybe that year I should have backed off and given myself more rest,” he acknowledged in Antwerp. “It was when I got shingles [a viral condition that affected him in Jan and February 2017] that I realised, ‘Yeah, I’ve overdone it.’ But I don’t think that the off season was what made my hip like what it was. It was always going to happen. Maybe it would have happened a month or two later.
“It was the French Open semi-final against Stan [Wawrinka in 2017] that I never recovered from. But, thinking back, after some of the longer matches in 2016, I was struggling with my serve in the fifth set because I wasn’t able to push up properly. Like against [Juan Martin] del Potro in the Davis Cup and [Kei] Nishikori at the US Open. It never stopped me from a training session or a match, it was just a discomfort that I had always dealt with, and then it just got to a point where there was no cartilage really left to protect my hip and the pain was just too much and just constant.”
With access to a time machine, Murray has admitted he would tell his younger self to train less intensely. “Now that I use one of those Catapult things [a GPS tracking device] that the football players wear, I can see that I was doing too much, because some of the sessions were harder than a five-set match. And that’s something that I pass on to lots of the guys that I talk to now.”
..........
Murray’s new mindset is to enjoy what he has (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2019/10/15/andy-murray-interview-whenever-did-not-want-carry-kim-helped/), rather than to always keep pushing for more. This is why it is unlikely he will travel to Miami for his traditional training block this winter. He has been conducting an unofficial poll in the locker room, asking players whether hot-weather training makes a significant difference to their fortunes at January’s Australian Open; and the results have been inconclusive.

How much paternity leave will he be taking this time round?
“I’ll definitely be taking some time off as we’ll be pretty busy with three children under the age of four,” he says. “I’ll try to be around as much as possible in the next year, but I know my tennis career won’t go on for ever, so there will need to be a balance between me maximising the next few years and spending quality time with my family. I’m lucky in that I can train close to home, so that lets me do things like the school run whenever I can.”
Are he and Kim stopping at three children, or will their clan keep growing? “Ask me that in a few weeks’ time when number three has arrived,” he says.
They’ll certainly have enough space for more. He recently won a battle with his local council to build a multimillion-pound house with a swimming pool and gym in Leatherhead, a few miles up the road from the family’s current place. The plans involve knocking down the existing £3m property on the site. There will reportedly be a massage room and sauna too, plus a summer house — the ideal place for his rehabilitation.
On the table in front of him at Queen’s is a collagen drink called TRR that his nutritionist has developed for him to help stave off further joint problems. In retrospect, was there anything he could have done differently as a young player to protect his hip? “Yeah, I could have probably delayed the process by a number of years had I been just a bit smarter with my training loads,” he admits. “I wish I hadn’t run as much off the court when I was younger, because I was already putting lots of load through my body with the training on court. I had a back operation when I was 25 as well. These two issues I have had, they’re overuse injuries.

I see some tennis articles seem unable to distinguish the Davis Cup (new format) and the new ATP Cup. Federer was never going to Madrid as Switzerland failed to qualify. He has pulled out of the ATP event in January which I think means his country also fails to qualify for that.

The film shows Murray’s surgeon, Sarah Muirhead-Allwood, telling him some weeks after the operation: “If you go back to playing first-class tennis I think you’ve got a 15 per cent chance that in the first seven years you could destroy the hip. There are chances. For seven years of tennis would you take that risk?”
While his reply is not shown, Murray said before viewing the whole film for the first time at a London premiere on Monday night that he had taken the view that he would “give it a go”.

Guardian tennis reporter Kevin Mitchell can't have been in Madrid - he writes that Murray "stretched his physical resources to the limit in a tough five-setter against the then world No 179 Tallon Griekspoor in the Davis Cup, during which a groin strain flared.". Tim Henman talks about Andy and the ATP cup.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2020/01/08/tim-henman-admits-did-not-expect-andy-murray-feature-atp-cup/
from the above article
Murray has cited a “pelvic bone-bruise” as the reason for another long lay-off. He has played only one match – and that a scratchy affair against Griekspoor, the world No 179 – since he won the Antwerp final on Oct 20.
It is possible that this stubborn injury could be associated with the metal ball-and-socket joint that was inserted in his right hip almost a year ago. If metal is banging against bone, it could create a problem that is difficult to resolve – at least, for anyone pursuing a career as an elite singles player.
Henman advised a “long-term view” on Wednesday, even if it means further delays. Murray is not yet thought to have returned to training at full tilt, which must mean that there are doubts over his participation in his next scheduled tournament – the Open Sud de France in Montpellier on Feb 3.

Andy Murray is back on the practice court to "really test the hip out". The best-case scenario is a return to action in Miami. The worst-case scenario is another operation in May to remove a heterotopic bone, which could rule him out of Wimbledon. More to follow on

I wouldn’t bank on that. The Imperial War Museum, and Natural History Museum have closed today for the duration. I imagine the other places will close over the next few days.
Speaking this week to ATP Tennis Radio, Delgado admitted, “Andy and I were practising a couple of weeks ago on the hard, with the potential of playing Miami, but we were holding on [over a decision] after the Indian Wells event cancellation. We then practised on clay for some days, then bit by bit [the world] closed down. We will just have to wait and see when the restrictions lift for everyone.

Yes, do I remember Greg not being able to sit down between games due to a back strain? I'm finding no record of the championships on line
If it does go ahead, and has to be played behind closed doors, I hope the BBC will show it.

Watching that was sheer bliss. So enjoyed it. Made me gasp and holler as per usual! All the Andy signature shots were there. Also now realise just how much we are missing in this year.

Loved it so much
Thanks lovetennis. Enjoyed watching that again. Isolation is beginning to get to me and having trouble actually doing anything, although I have plenty I can do. Needed some motivation, so this was perfect.
