It's Andre Sa. It was nice of Andy to break away from his minder and go over to him. Odd video making him sign cards whilst being interviewed.

Here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0828ybg)is a link to a piece on BBC Radio Scotland's "Good Morning Scotland" on Saturday 19th by Kheredine Idessane (who is BBC Scotland's tennis reporter) - a look back at his job following Andy since 2009. THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Where does that performance rank alongside your other major final performances?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I don't think that was one of Novak's best matches. I think we have played better matches together. The end of the match was exciting and dramatic. But, you know, there were mistakes from both of us.
I think I've probably played better matches. I was solid enough when I needed to be. I didn't make those mistakes. I think although I maybe made a few more mistakes than I would have liked, I think tactically I played a good match.
Yeah, it was obviously a good performance. You never beat a player as good as Novak if you don't play well. I'm not suggesting I played a bad match. I just think the two of us have played better matches than that one.
Q. You mentioned the other day you can only beat the players you're drawn against. Does it give you particular satisfaction to have clinched the year-end world No. 1 position having beaten the guy who has been the most successful player in the game over the last five years?
ANDY MURRAY: I don't know if 'satisfaction' is the right word. I mean, you know, it was obviously a big, big match against someone who I've played so many big matches against in my career. That would be my main rival really throughout my career.
We played in all of the slam finals, Olympics, obviously here now, and a match to finish the year No. 1. We played in loads of Masters Series finals, as well, and are one week apart in age.
It was obviously a big match, a very important win for me. It was just a huge match to finish the year, to try and obviously finish No. 1. Obviously this is a major event, as well, and one I've not done well in in the past. So it's been a great week.
Q. How difficult was it to serve out the match? What goes through your mind? That's such a momentous occasion.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, the 4-1 game was a tough one game to lose. I was up 30-15 in that game, served a poor serve. I didn't hit my second serve well today at all. Maybe first game I served a couple double-faults. After that, didn't hit it that well.
When I got broken at 4-1, Novak definitely started to hit the ball a bit bigger. He was getting closer to the baseline. I was starting to back off a little bit. That last game was obviously, you know, a tough one. Thankfully he made a few mistakes.
But I did come up with some good serves in that game. One point in particular, I think it was maybe 15-All or 30-All, when I came forward, you know, and hit the drop volley there, that was an important point, as well.
Q. How did you feel this morning when you woke up? Did you sort of feel better as the day went on and the match went on?
ANDY MURRAY: No, I felt tired. You know, I felt tired. I slept well last night, but I didn't feel great this morning. The practice, the warmup for the match, I was hitting the ball fine, but just a bit sluggish, a bit heavy-legged.
Thankfully the first sort of seven games of the match, there was no long rallies really at all, which for us is strange. Novak came out and served great his first couple service games. I got a lot of free points off my first serve, as well.
It wasn't really until the middle of the second set when the rallies started to get extended and longer that my legs were starting to feel it. That's why it became harder, as well, to close the match out, because I knew that the longer the match went, the worse I was going to feel, and probably the better he was going to play, too.
I was lucky I got it finished in two sets.
Q. Ivan has said in the past that when you retire, it's the amount of majors you've won rather than the weeks at No. 1 that you'll remember. You're going to be No. 1 now I guess for a minimum of two months. Is the priority going to be back to winning majors or will be holding on to No. 1 be back up there with it?
ANDY MURRAY: I would like to try and stay there, obviously. It's taken a huge effort the last five, six months to get there. I would obviously like to stay there. I'm aware that's going to be extremely difficult because I had a great year this year. I only managed to do it by one match. To repeat that again next year is going to be extremely difficult.
But now that I've got there, I obviously would be motivated to try and stay in that position. But yeah, I mean, the majors are what gets me working hard and what really, really motivates me.
When I go away in December to train, I'm training with the Australian Open in mind. Because of the best-of-five-set matches, they're the ones you have to really put in the extra work for and the extra training for. That's what motivates me.
Q. Can you rank the achievement of being a year-end No. 1 among all the achievements in your career? Does it give you something extra, it being against Novak?
ANDY MURRAY: No, I don't think it did. It's not so much the ranking. Everything that he's achieved, I have massive respect for everything that he's done, for him as a player obviously.
I think it's just maybe more the last few months because I've won a lot of matches and he's not been playing his best. But maybe in the important moments today, I was just a little bit more solid, maybe had that extra little bit of confidence, which in the past when we played each other maybe he's had. Maybe that was a bit of the difference today rather than the rankings, I think.
Q. Behind a great man is always a huge woman. Djokovic said nice words about your wife, how she handled the situation with the girl. Why do you think he said that today? Because this wife is really fantastic? Because you talk with him about this? Because it's really a great part in your success?
ANDY MURRAY: Like I said, when me and Novak speak with each other, we don't talk about tennis, rankings, the matches we play against each other. Maybe when we finish playing, that might change. But we talk about each other's families, children and stuff.
We chatted at length this year quite a lot because obviously I became a father the first time. We spoke about the difficulty in keeping the sort of balance in your life with the family and the traveling and the work and everything.
So, yeah, I mean, I think both of us have been with our now wives a long time, pretty much since we were like 18, 19 years old. We met each other's wives together at that age, as well. We've known each other a very long time. Regardless of what some of you may think, we have a good relationship.
It's not always easy when you're playing on court in the biggest matches with a lot at stake, but we've always got on well with each other, each other's teams and families.
Q. We tend to define men's tennis by the foremost players of the generation. We've had Pete Sampras eras, Roger Federer eras. How excited are you of the prospect of making this the Andy Murray era?
ANDY MURRAY: I never thought about that. You know, never given that any thought at all. I'd obviously want to try and achieve as much as I can these next few years because I'm not going to be around forever. I'm not going to be able to play at this level and play this many matches into my mid 30s.
These next few years, obviously I want to try and make them the best of my career, yeah, try and win as much as I can. But it's going to be tough because as you get older, you know, the young guys are going to keep improving and getting better. There's some really good young ones now.
It's going to be hard, but I'll try to keep going.
Q. I wanted to get your thoughts on the state of the game right now. A lot of the players have said they like the position of the game right now. The numbers seem to be up for viewership. Federer and Nadal are coming back next year. Young talent coming up. Talk about where the game is right now.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I mean, this year I think has been hard in some ways because of Roger and Rafa missing large parts of the year. They have massive fan bases, the two of them, not just for everything they've achieved on the court, but because they're obviously charismatic guys and are very, very popular. That's been tough this year.
But I hope these next few years are exciting. If the two of them can come back and be healthy, then some of the younger guys who I think are going to be great players, a few of them are really exciting personalities, as well, with exciting games.
I think it's in a good place just now. It would be better if the two of them were fit.
Q. Right after your Wimbledon win, some pundits and even the general press started calling you the best British sportsman ever. Are you aware of that? What is your take on the subject?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, yeah, I mean, I've been asked about it a few times since then. I have no idea. It's always a possible question to answer.
I mean, in tennis terms, in terms of my achievements over the years, I'd say I'd be the best tennis player from the UK. In terms of athletes, we've had many great athletes across a number of different sports.
It's impossible to say. It depends what your preference is really, what sports you like, which sports you think are the hardest.
Q. We sat here yesterday talking about this match. You were reflecting on the fact it wasn't enough that you haven't beaten top five players, then beat them, not enough you haven't beaten Djokovic, now you've beaten Djokovic. How important is it to you personally to have done that? How important is it to have shown all those people, I can do it? Second question, where is the party tonight?
ANDY MURRAY: Were you wanting to join again (laughter)?
No party tonight. I think we'll go out for dinner tomorrow night. I haven't been home for the last few nights. I've been staying in the hotel. So we're going to go home. But I think tomorrow with the team, we'll definitely go out for dinner, then see afterwards what happens.
I think for me, because obviously it's a matchup that over the last couple of years I lost a lot of the big matches against him, you know, this one was a big match, I managed to get over the line, it was tough at the end.
Mentally that will, again, give me a boost going into next year, as well. But, no, it was more for myself really. Yeah, it doesn't really matter what anyone else says. It's kind of how you feel inside.
I'm also happy for my team, as well, because they put a lot of work into getting me ready for these matches. I've lost a lot of them over the years. It's nice and I'm happy for them that I managed to win a big one like this.
Q. This year you became an Olympic champion, Wimbledon champion, and the ATP World Tour Finals champion. How do you feel? How can you compare the feelings of the three different championships? Also, what would you say if you had some suggestions for Chinese tennis fans, because you also won the Shanghai Masters this year?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I mean, all of the big events I won this year, they're different. The Olympics felt really special I think because of the way the match was. It was a really, really hard match, tough match against del Potro in the final. That one felt the most satisfying. It was a big week for me, that one. I got to carry the flag at the opening ceremonies, which was incredibly special, and something I didn't expect to ever get the chance to do. Then, yeah, to finish with a gold medal, again, was great. So the Olympics for me in terms of one match would have been the most special one.
But they're different. Right now to finish the year like this, this is the best possible way obviously to finish a year. I've often finished years on a bit of a downer after here because I hadn't played that well. But the last two years have finished well with the Davis Cup and now this.
Then with Chinese tennis, I didn't really understand the question.
Q. Chinese tennis fans, what do you have to say to them?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I had great support there this year when I went to play. It was really nice. Always in Shanghai I had, yeah, good support. Yeah, hope they enjoyed my tennis this year and I'll see them over there next year.

I will be amazed if Boris is still in Djoko's box next season.

Didn't reply to your first post Harriet, but must admit I couldn't get my head round you saying that Andy becoming no 1 was part of same game orchestrated by a jaded Nole. Couldn't disagree more - it's down to Andy being a fantastic player. Despite issues with his back, Andy had Novak's number in 2012-3 which had zilch to do with Nole being jaded, Andy then overcame surgery and this year rediscovered his best under Lendl to get Nole's number once again. Just my opinion, of course, but I have to say that I find your stance bewildering...
....and the only thing that can be read into Bobo's tweet, is not that Djoko is playing some long game, but rather that 'the game is up' insofar as Djoko now has to contend with a fully physically and mentally strong Andy in a fair fight whereas in the majority of their previous encounters Andy had either severe back pain or rehab to contend with.
Edit: didn't mean this post to sound terse, cross with Becker, that's all :)
On a completely different tac - has anyone heard what happened with Judy's appeal about her proposed development at Bridge of Allan? All seems to have gone quiet.
It's Bobo's 49th birthday so we should wish him many happy returns.....out of Djokovic's reach. :p ;)
He and #NoleFam are revolting about this comment from Wilander on Sky before the match on Sunday, "No one wants Novak to win other than a few hundred Serbians". Probably ill-judged but it was an off the cuff comment clearly referring to those in the arena but the revolters have decided he means globally. :big grin:

Really? So, er, how does that explain Djokovic's loss to Jiri Vesely at Monte Carlo? A tournament that both Federer and Nadal were playing. How does it explain his loss at Wimbledon - where Federer was playing? What about how devastated he was to lose in the first round at the Olympics? As you say Bardot, trolling by Becker. Andy has clearly got them worried. ;)
well I'm sticking to my guns. look at the WTF, djo had a 'cushy' draw we all said, he won his 3 games and we all said he was playing himself into form.
andy played 3 hours more than djo, no body thought he could win, I just hoped he didn't go down 6-3,6-3.
but he won, he played well enough, only 1 outstanding stroke.
djo played appallingly, so many errors - those 2 smashes into the net!
and now he's Number 2, he's got something to do - after he won the french he had done it all.
at wimbledon, seeking the calendar slam, he had that freak loss to Querrey's serves,
in the olympics, he lost to del Potro - the most horrendous draw ever, and it might have been andy in that position in the draw
so he could go for an olympic gold - in 2020, or a calendar slam in 2017
but when you have been the Number 1 for 4? years there is so little competition life gets boring
at least if andy can amass some points, then djo will have the satisfaction of reeling him in, reversing this year's events.

'Tennis legend Boris Becker, the coach of Novak Djokovic, has claimed that the absence of superstars Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal from the ATP circuit due to injuries was one of the reasons for the Serb's failure to maintain his number one ranking.'
Who is Boris kidding - needs a better excuse than that.

From Jon Wertheim's mailbag today: (http://www.si.com/tennis/2016/11/23/mailbag-murray-djokovic-atp-finals-tennis-retirements-data?xid=socialflow_twitter_si)
Answer your own question, Jon! What’s the bigger surprise: Angelique Kerber as the WTA’s No. 1 or Andy Murray as the ATP’s No. 1?
—Bengaltiger
• For context, we asked on Twitter, “What gets you crazier looks? Jan 15: "Angie Kerber will finish 2016 at No. 1" or June 15: "Andy Murray will finish 2016 at No. 1"
I think you have to go with Murray. In the case of the WTA, Serena Williams was obviously the preseason favorite, coming off a three-Slam year in 2015. Then again, she turned 35 this year and played only seven events total. You didn’t expect Sharapova to get the anti-doping pop. You didn't expect Azarenka to take pregnancy leave. But…Kerber as the year-end No. 1 is unexpected but not crazy.
While Murray was, of course, a two-time Slam winner and deserving No. 1, on June 1, he was practically playing a different sport from Novak Djokovic. Not only was Djoker about to win still another major—four in a row and, presumptively, the bigger hurdle in his Grand Slam quest—but he simply owned Murray. A tired match in Rome notwithstanding, ND had beaten AM 12 of the last 13 times they had met. (It would be 13/14 in the Roland Garros final.)
Huge credit to Murray for this takedown and his play overall in the second half of 2016. His defeat of Djokovic on Sunday in the final ATP*singles matches was a fitting coda to the year. But Djokovic’s slippage from June 1 to the present is staggering as well.
Hi Jon, As seen on your last Mailbag, I can't help thinking that Andy Murray isn't getting the credit he deserves for reaching No. 1 in the world. For some reason, everything he does is always filtered by “but Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are struggling,” something I've never seen when any other player reaches No. 1.
By the summer of 2013, Murray had won the Olympics (beating Federer in the final), the U.S. Open (beating Djokovic in the final) and Wimbledon (again beating Djokovic in the final). He looked well placed for an assault on the No. 1 spot and to go on and win many more majors. And then he had back surgery.
I may be wrong, but as Murray spent several months recuperating from his surgery, I don't recall anyone saying that Djokovic didn't deserve his ranking because one of his biggest rivals was incapacitated. As Murray's ranking tumbled while he struggled physically over the next couple of years and Djokovic pulled away, did anyone claim that Novak wasn't a worthy No. one?
What Murray has achieved is astonishing. He lost a couple of what should have been the best years of his career as he struggled with the effects of his surgery while Djokovic surged ahead, but despite this he has managed to drag himself back up the table to finally be able to state that he is the best player in the world… and yet this still isn't good enough for some people.
This season he has beaten both Djokovic and Nadal, won one Slam and reached the finals of two others. He won an Olympic gold (for which he received no ranking points) and six other tour-level events. This is despite a slow start to the season following the concerns over his father-in-law's health and the birth of his daughter.
Murray is a worthy world No. 1, as was Djokovic, as were Federer and Nadal, all of whom benefitted from their predecessors fading a little. Maybe it's time to appreciate his achievements instead of always knocking him.

ESPN (http://www.espn.com/tennis/story/_/id/18208149/boris-becker-uncertain-be-novak-djokovic-coach-next-year) - Boris Becker uncertain whether he will be Novak Djokovic's coach next year
"I still think he [Murray] is going to be riding the wave coming to Australia, and in the American events in March, because that was the only time he played badly this year," said the German.
"I think he is going to start to feel it in May. It's one thing playing up with nothing to lose but it's a whole new ballgame when you've got something to lose, the consequences of being world No. 1. There are responsibilities and expectations, so it becomes more strenuous. But I think he will be fine until the clay court swing."
Times (http://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/djokovic-is-not-a-computer-he-needed-to-take-time-out-k6rwtd2rv) - ‘Djokovic is not a computer ... he needed time out’
Despite Djokovic’s problems this year, Becker is still full of admiration for the effort of Murray to steal the world No 1 spot. “The first time I noticed a difference [in Murray] was this year at the French Open,” Becker says. “On his least favourite surface, getting to the final, what are you doing? You are on our tail now. All of a sudden he wins the first set in the final, it’s like, ‘Holy ****, this is getting close.’
“Unbelievable respect and credit for him and his team. You don’t become No 1 by accident, it’s not just a blip in the system. You earn your position and he’s earned it. The consistency throughout the year made him the No 1 player in the world. My hat’s off to him.”

Q: Boris Becker was recently quoted as saying that Novak Djokovic wasn’t working as hard as he could in the second part of the season.
A: It’s hard for me to comment on that but I guess what also happened is that Andy Murray took his game to another level. The first half of the year belonged to Novak Djokovic and the second to Murray. So, from the beginning of 2017, things are going to be interesting. The big plus for Murray is that he has got (Ivan) Lendl in his corner.
I worked with Ivan for eight years and he was always looking for an edge, something he could work on, improve every day. He would be the same with Murray. And that’s what Novak has to contend with. Murray is only going to get better. I think the next two-three years would be Murray’s. Novak certainly has got the ability but in what ways he is going to counter what Murray does will be the key. A lot to look forward to.

This is a summing up of Novak's exact problem - his dominance was artificially inflated by Andy's operation/rehab. There's 2 ways of looking at it; firstly he certainly made hay while the sun shone which is a good thing for him, but on the other hand I believe he would be a better, more developed player today if Andy, his truest rival, had been fit and winning (prob> than) half their big matches. I think it would have been better for him all round, including psychologically. In 2017 Novak will be desperate to show he can contend with a fit Andy, that his dominance wasn't opportunist, but it ain't going to happen, and that's going to sting. Oh well, boo hoo for Novak.
I don't like Andy being referred to as 'Murray' either! (especially when other players in the same conversation are being referred to by their first names!) :)
Federer has a bad habit (in my opinion) of referring to Andy as Murray.

But Andy will be older next year ;)
True, but sometimes you have to grab these opportunities when they come. If he never won another match he has done enough to warrant it (in my opinion). I think his comments after this year's Wimbledon were an indication of just how much pressure he was under to win it the first time. Have we had any individual sportsperson in the history of these Islands who has been put under so much pressure to deliver?
I don't think any of us doubt he has earned it. The debate is just about when is the best and most appropriate time.

I think for a long, long time he was (through no fault of his own), at odds with the GB public. He, his mother, and even his Grand Parents have suffered some awful abuse. The honours system might well be outdated - which is a separate argument. However he was incredibly proud of his OBE, as was his brother. I think a knighthood will reaffirm the message to him that he is loved, and valued by his country. That rightly or wrongly seems to be important to him. The things in his career that seem to have given him most satisfaction are winning Olympic Gold (both times, but the first most of all), winning The Davis Cup and being selected to carry the Olympic Flag in Rio. For that reason alone I think he should have it.
The fact it will send the Daily Mail trolls into meltdown is a very satisfying fringe benefit.........
all very good and well reasoned and no doubting andy deserves one if any one dose, but ill hang on to the hope he tells them to stuff it
Nothing would make me prouder than Andy accepting it.

I wish Andy's name had not been put forward until he retired. It's a foregone conclusion that he's going to get one (sorry Teresa, I don't get your point about grabbing the chance, he's not going to have won less in the future is he?!) but mid 30s, after he has completed his career, is time enough. He's still a young man, let him be young and banterish with his friends, without being Sir Andy. Also, Andy's got a lot more big wins in him - of course he's done more than enough already to deserve the knighthood, but it's still better to wait and honour his entire career. I mean if he's knighted in the new year then goes on to do calendar slam (which he will;)) how can that be honoured - can hardly just dole out another knighthood!

Peerage? Lord Andy of the Murrays! How wonderful!
I think the problem with the honours system is that it's tainted by some of those who do not deserve the awards. However I absolutely hope he gets it exactly because he was so awfully treated by so many of his compatriots for so long. Some are still mind-blowingly nasty. One day after the O2 win someone told me "every time I looked at him he was moaning". I want him to get it and every other accolade possible to show him that he is loved and appreciated by everyone apart from a handful of numpties

I'm with you on this one, RosieBear ..........wish they had waited until he was a bit older
tricky one, isn't it the case that if you turn down an honour then you won't be offered it again; and if you let it be known privatly that you'd rather not be asked yet, then the honours 'committee' or whatever seem churlish in seeming to ignore you. maybe just stick with SPOTY and say how thrilled you are to be recognised by your peers and the public?

I'm with you Pat and Anna  Seems it's almost cut and dried that he's on the New Years honours list though.
I couldn't care one way or the other whether Andy is knighted. I am going to upset a fair few on here with my next comments, so stop reading if you love the system! The following is my personal opinion and I realise completely that I am in a minority in the country about this. And I know a few people with honours - a couple of CBEs, and I used to work for someone who was knighted, all very worthy and lovely people but it doesn't alter my feeling about the system.
The ridiculous honours system is so outdated, and is devalued by the apparently almost automatic award for Olympic medallists - of course the country is proud of them, but unless their win is truly extraordinary (and I would count Andy's 2nd gold that way, and Laura and Jason Kenny as other examples) then just for winning an Olympic medal should not mean a practically automatic OBE or whatever. Similarly with cricket and rugby teams..... but that could just be the chippy Scot in me!
And that's not to mention the number of celebs who have previously been honoured only to have their past misdemeanours/illegal actions come out some time later. I'm not sure if anyone has ever had an award removed from them - I'm not even sure if its possible to do so.
However, it is down to individuals whether they believe in the system or not, and if offered whether to accept. As Andy has previously accepted an OBE then I have no doubt if offered a knighthood he would accept. I won't think any more or less of him whichever. His achievements stand on their own, I could not be more proud already. If he's going to be knighted, then personally I think it should be at the end of his career but I can see why he would be nominated now, especially if there's a truck load of other Olympians about to be rewarded it would be crazy for Andy to be left out with what he's done this year. However, there is a step between OBE and knighthood - and he could be upgraded to a CBE now, with the knighthood when he retires.
Apologies to everyone I've now offended. I shall skulk off....
@Jane62 - as one of the ones who is greatly in favour. You haven't offended me one whit. One of the joys of this forum is that we can disagree in an adult manner without rancour. I agree with much of what you say, particularly automatically giving honours for Olympic Medalists. It perhaps needs a different medal for the sports people Order of the British Olympian or something. I would like to see those who achieved above and beyond what you might reasonable expect rewarded - Sophie the Hammer Thrower, and Becky the Trampolinist for example. However I am not sure that the traditional honours system is the right way. I also have to say I don't think the sports people devalue the system, the automatic award to Civil Servants and Politicians on the other hand........................
I also don't really disagree that the honours system is an anachronism. However whilst we have it, I want Mr M to have his share of the pie. It probably would be more sensible for him to have it at the end of his career, but to my mind it's a bit like the No 1 ranking. Sometimes you can miss the boat. I would hate him to miss out. The only real reason I want him to have it is because I really do think he has quite low self esteem sometimes, and these things are a concrete way of validating his achievements (sorry if that sounds daft), to him.
Either way it will make the end of the year more interesting:-)

What the two of you have written is probably an amalgamation or contains elements of what many think. I think the nasties who have won at least contribute to the feelings of many that it is out-of-date and of course all that kneeling and swords palaver is a bit old-hat. However I want him to get it because of the "great honour" he may feel because he does seem surprised and humbled by, say, the SPOTY last year...like he somehow does not deserve it.
I have been wondering if there have been strong rumours before about other people - I can't remember as I don't usually take much notice. Can anyone remember? :excited:

There is no doubt in my mind that, should the knighthood be offered now, Andy would accept. There is no way he would insult the system (however weird it may sometimes appear) even believing, as he does, as many of us do, that it's just a bit early. He is just too proud of his country to throw the honour back at them.
ITF Tennis (http://www.itftennis.com/news/247752.aspx?utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral) - Murray and Kerber named 2016 ITF World Champions (Jamie & Bruno, World Doubles Champions & Gordon Reid, Wheelchair World Champion)
In my opinion, for whatever reason someone refuses an honour should be respected and not considered an insult. It's their decision.
Nishikori was interviewed on Japanese TV (https://twitter.com/morunien/status/807960311139483652) when playing the IPTL. A translation of some of his quotes.
Kei picked the bronze medal match at Rio as his best match of the season.
"With no points for Rio, I wan't sure how to motivate myself. Was bugging me a little for the first 2 rounds. But it changed after R3."
"Definitely I played with different emotions at Rio from the previous Olympics. The more I played, the more I wanted to win a medal."
"Although I still have losing records against Murray and Djokovic, I felt I had good chances against them more than any other years."
"I became more competitive with them. I had many good matches with Murray like at Davis Cup, which gave me a good confidence."
Re the remark made by Djokovic after the Tour Final SF match that Kei might be tired, “More or less that’s true. I finished the last match at midnight and went to bed at 3 or 4 so I didn’t recover 100%. But he was really good, and my tennis wasn’t good. It was just a bad way to lose."
Comments about Andy & Djokovic.
“Djokovic’s very consistent, aggressive with a superb defence. He’s beaten me completely a few times, I feel he’s still higher up there."
"I've beaten Murray this year at USO and had a good long DC match with him, so I’d feel more comfortable playing against him." He's conveniently forgotten his thrashing by Andy in Rio.
Asked if he usually talks to Novak and Andy, “Yes, time to time. But not like we’re good buddies. I think Djokovic is easier to talk to. Very funny guy. But I think he also has a sensitive side, too.”
ITF Tennis (http://www.itftennis.com/news/247752.aspx?utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral) - Murray and Kerber named 2016 ITF World Champions (Jamie & Bruno, World Doubles Champions & Gordon Reid, Wheelchair World Champion)
From same article...I love this....never tire of reading it again and again!
This is the first time that two brothers have been named as men’s singles and men’s doubles World Champions in the same year.

Nishikori - to quote a man he thinks less funny than Novak "it's like lift music - you're aware it's there but you're not really listening". Imo Kei should be more worried about Milos. I don't see Kei getting to no.3 with Milos around.
The Japanese obviously don't get 'dry' humour.

Not at all condescending. I am diabolical with languages. It is easy for meanings to get lost in translation. Nishikori has always shown the greatest respect to Andy Murray, so these so these comments seem a bit out of character. A Journalist stiring it for a story is not unheard of.

Will he need to improve though ? It's the others that need to improve isn't it ? And Does Pat Rafter ever come across as some-one who would be jealous of another players' success ?

I doubt if he will beat this year. If he gets another Grand Slam that will be great, but he is running out of things to win now. Just the AO and the French Open, plus I think two of the Masters 1000. After this year, anything more is a bonus. Realistically he has only got this year and next year to challenge for Grand Slams. Fed last won one at 32?

Yes even the Australians like Pat Rafter where they haven't liked a lot of their own players.
Wasn't Rafter called 'Perfect Pat' by Pat Cash? Of course, everyone and anyone is entitled to their opinion but that's all it is - opinion. No-one has a clue what will happen next season. If anyone had predicted what happened this year - with Djoko mopping up everything in the first six months and Andy doing the same in the second six months - they would have been laughed out of court!

New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/18/sports/tennis/roger-federer-interview.html?smid=tw-share) - Roger Federer Welcomes the End ... Of a Layoff, Not His Career
Federer, even in absentia, said he had kept checking the scores on his phone as Murray dueled with Djokovic down the stretch in November to secure the year-end No. 1 ranking.
“I was very surprised just because when a guy starts a season the way Novak does, achieves his dream by winning the French and his fourth Slam in a row, of course there’s no way in the world that anybody, even the players, start thinking another guy could actually finish No. 1,” Federer said. “Novak, let’s be honest, actually didn’t play too bad in the second half. He won Toronto. He played finals in many other tournaments: U.S. Open, the World Tour Finals. You would think that that’s going to be enough, but what it required was something extraordinary, and Murray was able to deliver that, and that’s where I take my hat off.”
Well said that man  even if he does say "Murray" ;)

Really enjoyed the Sky programme. Watched it when I should have been working this afternoon.
was good, but like all these compilation stories was missing video from some of andys big wins as they never had coverage rights, be nice to see a bit of cooperation from broadcasters to depict the immensity of andys season in full

"To be able to compete at the highest level, you need to train harder than anyone else, and that’s something I think I do which really helps me when I’m playing in a long and difficult match."
"People always asked me about how I dealt with the pressure of the whole country wanting me to win Wimbledon and whether it affected me. If I’m honest, I enjoyed the pressure, in a way, it was nice to know that so many people wanted me to succeed and cared about the result. It’s the same with nerves. I enjoy having nerves as it keeps me focused and on edge and ready to play my best."

That is so weird what Jamie says about winning and losing. It's the exact opposite to what Rafa says - each week one guy wins and everyone else loses, so losing is normal.
