I'd thought Judy was looking thin as well - face is drawn. Can't understand it with all the food she eats (or says she does). Maybe it's the stress of her new job.
I noticed that as well and just hoped there was nothing wrong with her, or she had just had a busy few days.

Tom Tebbutt's latest very entertaining blog. (http://www.tenniscanada.com/index.php?title=Tebbutt:-Eating-Your-Wimbledon-Words&pid=3925)
David Ferrer looked awfully impressive in taking out Juan Martin del Potro in three sets, but so did Andy Murray in doing likewise against Marin Cilic. I spoke to a Scottish journalist who has known Murray since before he was known by the rest of us, and he seemed very concerned about Ferrer and his fine form. I tried to reassure him by saying that I thought Andy had a more varied game, and a better serve, and that could make the difference.
There is a lot of wandering around on rainy days at the All England Club, and through the window of the media centre, I took the picture below of Ivan Lendl, Andy Murray’s coach and a six-time Canadian Open (now the Rogers Cup) champion in the 1980s. He is speaking to All England Club member John Beddington, who was tournament director of the Canadian Open in all of those years.
I headed up to a north-east entrance to the grounds on Tuesday morning and watched the bag checking that goes on before spectators enter the grounds...
...Spiderman outfits are on the no-no list. One person entering on Tuesday had bought a Spiderman suit for his son but was not allowed to bring it in. Security personnel were afraid he would put it on and possibly invade one of the courts.

A word of advice from a guy who has been around the block a few times: if you're going to watch Andy Murray against David Ferrer this afternoon, pack some extra sandwiches and make damn sure you go to the rest room before the match. This is going to go some.
This is a match where the two guys could be playing in front of a mirror, they have so much in common across their games. They are both fantastic movers and great returners – Ferrer describes his return as his best weapon and Murray was booming them back at Marin Cilic yesterday.

A. MURRAY/M. Cilic
7‑5, 6‑2, 6‑3
Q. How tough was that with the conditions and all the delays?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it's tough. You know, I mean, obviously in matches you kind of can build momentum and build leads, and then when you stop, once you come back out again, you feel like you're starting off from square one.
But I did well today. He started the third set well. He had a few chances. I came up with some big serves. I served very well in the third set especially.
But, yeah, it's never easy. There were, what, three, four, three stops or something. It's not easy.
Q. Was the weather a factor in the pace that you played that third set?
ANDY MURRAY: No, not at all. Not at all. Because I served a lot of aces, that's why the games were quick. I managed to get done.
But, yeah, the weather had nothing to do. I would have played as fast or slow as I needed to do to win the match. I wasn't worried about the weather.
Q. Even if Ferrer is a clay court specialist, how much do you think...
ANDY MURRAY: He's a clay court specialist? No, he's not. To me he's not a clay court specialist. He won last week on grass, so he's won, what, eight matches in a row on the grass. He's been in the semifinals of Australia, I think semifinals of US Open, as well, and now he's starting to play better on grass.
I don't see him as a clay court specialist at all.
Q. How much do you think the grass helps his game, especially his first serve which is maybe not the best weapon?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I mean, for most players it helps with the serve. You know, the one thing that a lot of players can struggle with is the movement. That's the one thing that's normally the hardest part on the grass if you're used to playing on other surfaces.
I saw a bit of his match with Roddick a few days ago. He seems like he's moving, you know, better than in the past. This year he's playing his best tennis I think of his career. I don't know if he would say the same thing, but from playing against him and watching, he's playing very well.
Q. The way you're serving at the moment, do you feel you could be in a better position against him knowing what he's going to be trying to do?
ANDY MURRAY: No, I think for both of us the return's probably one of the stronger part of our games. I mean, the speed of my first serve is probably a bit bigger than his.
But in all matches going on the grass courts, you want to try and win free points from your serve if possible.
If I serve like I did in the end of the second set and the third set today, I mean, it doesn't matter how well someone's returning. Because if you hit a serve close to the line on grass, you can't get there.
Q. You talk about the momentum being lost when you had to stop last night and come back today. What were your thoughts on the fact that no matches were moved to Centre Court last night?
ANDY MURRAY: I don't think it was my match. It wouldn't have made sense to move my match. I thought maybe the Mayer/Gasquet match to try and finish all the matches from the top half possibly.
But I don't know, you never know. I don't know in terms of when the matches ‑‑ obviously the match the other night when I played finished at 11:00. I don't know if there were concerns over that or not because they were pretty early on in their match when they finished yesterday.
But that would have been the only match that I thought might have made sense.
Q. Were you surprised when you found you were put on Court 1 originally? Did that bother you?
ANDY MURRAY: The schedule was done, I mean, almost like 15 minutes ‑‑ 15, 20 minutes after I came off against Marcos. I came out of the shower and I was told, You're playing second on Court 1. I mean, I had no idea what the weather was meant to be like or anything at that moment.
So wasn't surprised. But it was going to be tough for whoever had to play on the outside courts, because obviously the conditions were meant to be bad yesterday, today, and I think even tomorrow.
Q. Yesterday there was a prospect of you potentially playing three games in four days. Is that a disadvantage?
ANDY MURRAY: It's not just me. There's lots of guys in exactly the same position. Anyone will tell you if you play four matches in eight days, it's better than playing four matches in five or six days.
The more rest you can get the better, but it's part of playing Grand Slam tennis. Often it's happened to me in the past at the US Open where there's been like a backlog of matches. It's not going to be the only time it happens here either.
continued .....
...interview continued
Q. Obviously not for Novak, because he's going to be playing under the roof if he is on Centre Court irrespective of the rain. Is that going to provide an advantage to a defending champion?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, we'll see whether or not it's an advantage for him or not. But the more rest you can get, the better. Anyone would tell you that.
Q. You've won a higher percentage of points on your second serve than anyone else in the tournament. Is that something you've been particularly happy with, and how important can that be?
ANDY MURRAY: Yes, it's important. I served well on first and second serve. Yeah, something I'll need to keep up 'cause, you know, the more points you're winning on your second serve, the more confident you are to go for big first serves.
So, yeah, I'll try and keep serving that way.
Q. After all these thousands of hours of practice, breakthroughs, setbacks, what would it mean for you to lift the trophy on Sunday?
ANDY MURRAY: I'm sure it would mean a lot. Yeah, I can't put into words or describe how it would feel because I haven't felt it before.
But, I mean, it's so far away. I'm sure, you know, you get that, I don't know, that feeling or what the sensations that you get are when it's close to winning a major.
But I'm not feeling that right now because I'm playing against the No. 5 player in the world in my next match, and I lost against him a few weeks ago at the French Open.
It's so far to think about it just now. I've thought about it in the past, but during this tournament it's not something I've been thinking about.
Q. It's not up to you to choose if you will play under the roof or not. It depends on God. But if you had to play Ferrer, and he has certain characteristics ‑ moving, the wind maybe bothers him or you more ‑ where would you prefer to play, under the roof, outside, normal weather? Do you have any sort of preference?
ANDY MURRAY: No, because, I mean, sometimes I played him when it's been windy and I played better than him; sometimes it's been windy and he's played better than me.
Sometimes we played indoors and he's played very well, and vice versa.
Yeah, it's not something ‑‑ well, I don't know. If I had to pick which courts to play him on, I'd rather not play him on a clay court because it's a surface that I struggled against him on.
But on the other surfaces I've played some good matches against him. Tough matches, but good. Won against him a few times. Hopefully I can do the same tomorrow.
Q. Following up about the action under the roof, what do you consider the biggest differences and what do you like and dislike the most about playing indoors here under the roof?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, the other day when I played Baghdatis it was very, very windy. It was very tough conditions. You didn't feel that comfortable really going for your shots because the wind was, you know, affecting it a lot.
And then when you play under the roof, it's obviously, yeah, completely calm. It's probably easier to serve. When you're under the roof there's no sun or wind affecting your ball toss or anything.
But, yeah, playing indoor tennis is always like that. Yeah, it's easier conditions to strike the ball better.
Q. In terms of what you like and dislike most, what would you say?
ANDY MURRAY: I've always enjoyed playing indoors, but I never played that many matches on indoor grass courts. I hadn't play my best matches. When I had gone indoors I'd struggled a little bit here in the past when I had had to play under the roof.
But I played better against Baghdatis under the roof than I did than when it was open.
Q. The match you played against Ferrer at the French Open, do you think that has any relevance or not?
ANDY MURRAY: We'll see tomorrow whether it has relevance or not. Tennis changes on a weekly basis. Some guys play great one week and struggle the next.
You know, like last year I think Novak had never beaten Rafa in a final, and then he wins, whatever, six or seven in a row against him. You never know.
So I just need to make sure I play well tomorrow and see what the outcome is.
Q. Where do you stand on the argument whether you're the biggest hope the host nation has? Do you feel you should get preferential treatment in terms of scheduling?
ANDY MURRAY: I don't think you should get preferential treatment. You know, obviously, I mean, all of the players would say they would rather play on Centre because they know they're going to finish their match.
I don't deserve to play all my matches on Centre Court. Someone like Roger does.
It's not a bad thing playing on the outside court. It's just when the conditions are bad it's not ideal to be out there because matches can last for two, three days, and then you get a backlog.
But, I mean, I don't think just because you're from that country you should necessarily get preferential treatment, but I hope that I play my next few matches on Centre.
Q. You're a laid back person. How do you manage to keep up the tempo? How do you relax when those delays are taking place?
NDY MURRAY: Yeah, it's not easy, because sometimes you come out and you feel a little bit nervous. Sometimes you come out and I think maybe it's sometimes better to be receiving serve. You can maybe have the game to get used to the conditions. There's a bit less pressure than when you come out serving.
Yeah, I mean, I listen to music in the break. This time yesterday I finished, went home, played on the PlayStation with one of my friends for an hour or so. You just try not to always be focusing on the match, because when you do, that sort of builds that tension. When you go out there, you can struggle.
This time I did a pretty good job in the rain delay because that hasn't always been the case.

Tom Tebbut's Thursday blog. (http://www.tenniscanada.com/index.php?title=Tebbutt:-Murray-Moves-the-Home-Folk&pid=3930) A lot of space given to Andy.
I have to declare my colours here. Murray has always been a straight-forward guy in everything I have witnessed of him – notwithstanding the whining and grimacing on court – and in any very minor dealings I have had with him.
Most of the British journalists, while quick to mock his slow Scottish drawl, also admire his fundamental decency.
All that to say it is difficult not to hope the guy might be able to win Wimbledon and once and for all rid the nation of the spectre of Fred Perry who triumphed way back before most people presently on this earth were born – 1936.
I am so sick of hearing the Fred Perry and Bunny Austin stats.

A. MURRAY/D. Ferrer
6‑7, 7‑6, 6‑4, 7‑6
Q. Set and a break down obviously not a great situation. What were you thinking then?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I knew it's a lot harder to hold serve from the near end of the court. I think both times when he served for it, he was serving at that end.
Yeah, just tried to make him play some balls, you know, tried to dictate more of the points. That was it.
Q. How do you think you played generally at the end? Do you feel you were getting better as the match went on?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I thought I played well. I knew it was going to be tough. You know, it's the hardest match that I played. It's a very different match to all of the other ones.
Yeah, I was expecting a lot of long rallies. You know, yeah, it was fairly tricky conditions out there. Obviously started raining a little bit out there at the end. It was cold at the start, then it got warm, and it was quite windy as well.
Yeah, I thought after the first sort of ‑‑ like at 5‑3 in the first set I probably wasn't playing that well, but after that I thought I hit the ball pretty good.
Q. You tied Tim's record here with you four semifinals. I imagine that's a nice accomplishment, but one you also want to put in the rearview mirror.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, obviously the goal now is to win the next match and try and get through to the final for the first time. Yeah, I mean, it's not something ‑‑ I'm obviously happy.
I've had a good run here the last few years, but, yeah, I'm not satisfied with that. I want to try and go further.
Q. How would you describe the attention on you, the weight on your shoulders as you go for something that the country has waited so many years for?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I don't really know exactly. Yeah, there's obviously pressure there. But something that, you know, providing ‑‑ I think if you think too much about it, you know, and you read the newspapers and you watch the stuff on TV that's said about you, I think it would become far too much.
But if you kind of shield yourself from it all and kind of just get into your own little bubble, only listen to the people that are around you, then it's something you can deal with.
Q. Seems that the forehand at 6‑4, just an incredible release of emotion from you. Can you describe what it was like, that moment, for you.
ANDY MURRAY: Well, when we came back out ‑ I mean, it was, what, a 15‑minute break or something ‑ you know, I'm aware that you're one, two games away from winning the match and getting into the semis. And, yeah, it was a big moment in the match.
I served very well when we came back out. I knew if I could get that point, he was down at the hard end of the court. Even if I'd lost the next point, it almost felt like a match point, that one. Luckily I stepped up on the next point and hit an ace.
But it was a big point.
Q. When you talk about putting yourself in a bubble and not listening to other people, what is it within you that helps you do that?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, one, experience probably, and then just having the right people around you that you trust, people that you respect. You know, you don't feel like you need to listen to what, you know, an ex‑player might be saying or a journalist or a pundit or whatever.
You block yourself away from all of that and you just listen to them, and they give you the confidence that you need.
Q. Do you think this is your best chance?
ANDY MURRAY: No, I don't know. I mean, I think when I played Roddick in the semis was also a good chance. I had a good record against him before I played against him. You know, he did play unbelievable in the semis, and especially in the final that year.
So I don't know. You know, I'm in a good position, that's for sure. Whether it's the best chance or not, I'm not sure. But I've been in this position a few times now and want to push on.
Q. On a similar point, obviously Jo is a tough opponent. Is there a part of you that is pleased it's not Rafa you have to face here?
ANDY MURRAY: No. Just because I lost to him a few times doesn't mean I'd never want to play against him. I don't mind playing against Rafa. I've won against him in slams before. It's obviously a challenge, and he's played some very good tennis when we have played each other here.
But, no, I mean, Jo's a tough opponent. He served I think very well so far this tournament. It's a very different match to playing against Rafa, but he's one of the best grass court players in the world, that's for sure.
Q. When you reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the 10th time, is it in your own mind, I should be here, or is there a feeling of, I'm thrilled to get here?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, when you start each tournament you want and try and win. Obviously now that I'm in it I'm not thinking, Great, I'm in the semifinals. You want to try and go further.
But I know how hard it is. Everyone kept telling me I had such a hard draw and how tough it was going to be to get through. You know, I managed to do that. I've beaten some very good players. It's been a good tournament so far.
But I want it to continue. I'd be disappointed, you know, if I lost before the final in any tournament, but I don't just expect to get there. It's a very difficult thing to do. You need to make sure you perform properly.
Q. Will you be able to draw on anything from your previous three semifinals here?
ANDY MURRAY: I think over the seven years I've been on the tour, yeah, I'll draw from that experience. Having played Jo quite a lot of times I know him well. We played a lot in the juniors, so I've known him for a long time.
You know, rather than focusing on it being the semifinals of Wimbledon, I need to focus on it being a match against him and what I do well against him and what's worked against him in the past.
So that's what I'll be drawing on.
Q. The Duke and Duchess of York were here today. How special is it to have the support of the Royal Box?
ANDY MURRAY: Obviously I was aware of it. We got told this morning before we went on the court, and obviously when I saw Roger playing I saw them sitting in the Royal Box.
Yeah, I think it's always going to make a difference when you have royalty in there. For me, also playing in front of someone like Agassi as well and Steffi Graf. Rod Laver was there, too. You know, it was an unbelievable privilege to play in front of those people.
Q. You said the other day you're not thinking about what it would be like to lift the trophy. Is it ever difficult not to let your mind wander to those types of thoughts?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I haven't had a problem with it this tournament or in previous tournaments. I think like a couple times before I played finals and stuff it is important to try and sort of envisage yourself winning the match and visualize it a little bit.
But it's not something that, yeah, yet at Wimbledon I've done.
continued ...
.....interview continued
Q. What do you remember most from the earliest ages of your appreciation for Wimbledon and for the importance of the championship to people in this country?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, when I first played here I didn't understand what it was like, and it still took a few years for me before I understood how important this tournament was to me, how important it is to tennis, and also this country, as well.
I didn't necessarily appreciate that the first time I played because you're just a kid. It's something new for you. You're excited to play on Centre Court.
But it's not until I played a lot of matches there that I started to understand how special a court it was. I spent some time here during the year sitting on the court when there was no one else there just thinking what it was like.
So it's become more and more special to me the more years I've played. I've started to understand how important it is to tennis.
Q. Were you more satisfied today with your focus, mental disposition, than you were with previous matches, or do you feel you were in the same zone?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I could have done a little bit better probably in the third set. I knew how important it was to get off to a good start there. I had a couple chances early and didn't get it. I was a little frustrated with that. I think I did a good job at the end of the set.
Especially after the rain delay, too, I came out and served very well and concentrated hard and picked the right shots.
So, yeah, I thought I did, yeah, overall a pretty good job because it was a tough match and he doesn't give you a whole lot of time to breathe on the court. He doesn't give you like, you know, three easy games. He never gives you free breaks or anything. You always have to work hard for it.
Q. When you're in the middle of a match like that, can you hear helpful hints from the crowd like, Stop doing dropshots and attack? Do you ever think, They're right about that; I should stop these dropshots?
ANDY MURRAY: No, well, it's funny. In the last whatever, four matches or something, five matches I played, when they work no one says anything. When I miss a couple, that's the reason why you lost or that's the reason why it was a closer match than it should have been.
It's a tactic that I use against certain players. I really haven't hit many in the tournament, but it's a tactic that I use against certain players to break the play up.
Also brings them closer to the baseline so that when you do start hitting bigger shots, you know, they're expecting maybe a dropshot and you can surprise them that way. It's not just about whether you make that shot or not. There's a lot more to it than that. It's a lot deeper than what most people would understand.
Q. You just spoke about the importance of Wimbledon to the country. Could you explain what you mean, what you feel the importance of Wimbledon is to Great Britain.
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I mean, it's one of our ‑‑ it happens on a yearly basis, I'd say it's probably the biggest sporting event that we have. I mean, it's been around for so long. So many great athletes, you know, tennis players have obviously played here.
Yeah, I mean, tennis in the UK is not really a sport that necessarily gets followed loads for the rest of the year, but everyone gets into it when Wimbledon comes round because they understand how big a competition it is.
Yeah, I mean, the support that I've had over the last sort of five, six years here has been great. Yeah, I'm trying my best to win the tournament for myself obviously, but also for everybody else.
Q. From the outside it seems like a grind and there's so much pressure. But do you look upon Wimbledon that it is going to be a grind or is it fun for you? Do you enjoy it?
ANDY MURRAY: I always play well here, so it doesn't affect me really in a bad way. But, yeah, when the tournament's done I do normally need a few days off to not think about tennis and just relax.
Because, you know, whether, like I said, I don't watch the TV or read anything, there's still, yeah, a huge amount of pressure there and I know that.
You know, subconsciously I'm probably extremely stressed out right now, but I try not to feel it. Then, yeah, when the tournament's done there's normally a pretty big release of that. I just don't want to be on the court for a few weeks.
Q. How would you compare the situation with other things you've seen or experienced, other sports, other figures, in the rest of the world?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I'd say like LeBron James, for example, you know, would be a good example. He obviously is a great basketball player. He came very close to winning quite a lot of times.
Yeah, I don't need to go into the whole background of his whole story, but him winning this year for him I'm sure was massive. For me as a basketball fan it was nice to see.
I would say for me I guess it's a similar situation. I've been close a lot of times and not quite made it. You know, just have to keep putting myself in the position, and hopefully it will click.
Q. What did that do for you to see LeBron James win this year? Did you internalize that?
ANDY MURRAY: No, but I always enjoy seeing that because I follow basketball a lot and watch a lot of the sports news and stuff. There's a lot of people out there that didn't want him to win. There's a lot of people that said he would never win. There's a lot of people who said he never played his best in finals. In the fourth quarter of games he never steps up.
Then you see how he played the whole of the Finals, the whole of the Playoffs. Sometimes it takes guys a bit longer than others.

Nicks Picks (http://nickstennispicks.com/)- Nick’s Picks- Wimbledon Semi-Finals
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) vs Andy Murray (GBR)
Tsonga has a big forehand, big serve and he moves very well. Right now Murray is showing more offensive power and is able to control his emotions in the tight moments of the match. He has been coming up with the big service when he needs it and is beginning to feel that he legitimately has a chance to go to the finals. Murray has too much of everything to not beat Tsonga. I have never seen Murray play this comfortably, and with as much aggression.
Nick’s Pick- Right now it goes to Murray.

Guardian (http://aggbot.com/Sport-News/article/17249631) - Ivan Lendl's bed-time stories fuel Andy Murray's dream
"Ironically, I hit a lot less serves than I used to [in practice]. Ivan is more of the opinion that you need to rest your shoulder and make sure it is loose, not tired, when you go out on to the court and into big tournaments because, over the course of two weeks, you hit thousands of serves. That may be a reason why I am serving well deeper into the tournament. He has worked a lot on my second serve too since the start of the year. It was not always about the pace of the serve [against David Ferrer]. I was getting a lot of kick on it and making him hit a lot of very high returns. He struggled a lot with [it]."
Lendl works on his mind as well as his body, and that too is paying dividends.
"We speak about different things than I was used to. He is a different coach, a different person. [We] still speak 30-40 minutes before a match and get a lot of information, tactics. He doesn't miss anything. He gives you a lot of information on players, so I have started to talk the night before matches so I can process it. That's really been the big difference. He is making sure I am focusing on the match the night before, so I can sleep on it and make sure I am prepared rather than not thinking about the match at all and maybe starting off a little bit slow."
This is great! - don't know if it's been posted anywhere...

In the other semifinal, the “D-word” is beginning to make its presence felt here. That being destiny and the possibility of Andy Murray winning one for himself, and one for a nation that has waited a mere 76 years for a successor to Fred Perry.
I predict that Murray gets past Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and sets hearts a-flutter all through the United Kingdom in anticipation of Sunday’s final.

I don't mind a separate thread - maybe someone else can copy over the important ones from here that I post.
I am only copying in a very small percentage of the ones available too - mainly the articles from major tabloids and a selection of the others (as many are very similar) and a few from abroad, as foreign ones often have a different slant. So if anyone sees any others please post them. Interview transcripts are not available until noon the next day.

TT's Friday blog: (http://www.tenniscanada.com/index.php?title=Tebbutt:-A-Final-Fraught-With-Possibilities&pid=3937)
In the second semifinal, Murray looked superb in taking the first two sets from Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, a match that was played in the great outdoors after the retractable roof was opened. But Tsonga got in touch with his best quick-strike, acrobatic tennis in the third set and made Murray partisans begin to get more and more squirmy. There were visions of Tsonga’s comeback from two-sets-to-love down a year ago against Federer in the Wimbledon quarter-finals in the minds of many Murray partisans. But he steadied and finally took that one giant step further – to the final – than he had in his previous three years at Wimbledon.

A. MURRAY/J. Tsonga
6‑3, 6‑4, 3‑6, 7‑5
Q. What were you doing 74 years ago?
ANDY MURRAY: Not a whole lot. (Smiling.)
Q. Okay. We'll follow that up with, assuming you weren't around 74 years ago, how much weight did you feel on your shoulders of this whole thing and everybody rooting for you? Were you able to put some of that aside?
ANDY MURRAY: Uhm, well, to be honest, I've been trying to explain you don't really think about it that much, but I think like subconsciously at the end of the match it was obviously very emotional.
Haven't really been like that before in a semifinal match, so obviously it meant something to me and it was very, very important.
And, yeah, there is obviously a lot of pressure and stress around this time of year. I don't, like, feel it like when I'm on the practice court on when I'm just kind of walking around. I try not to think about that stuff.
But, yeah, in the back of my mind it's obviously there.
Q. What is the contribution of Maggie and Rusty to this quest now for the championship?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I don't think they necessarily influence the match that we'll play on Sunday. Yeah, I mean, I'm sure if you asked Roger what his kids' contribution are or the people that are around him, it's something that makes me happy. I love dogs, and, yeah, they're obviously part of my life. It's something I enjoy away from the court.
When I finish my matches it's nice to go home. You know, they don't care whether I win or lose. It's important to have also people around you that are like that, as well.
Q. What are your thoughts on Roger's place in the history of this sport and this tournament?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, he's obviously one of the greatest players ever to have played. He's got probably ‑‑ not sure who has a better win/loss record than him here. I'd be surprised if he wasn't the best in terms of his win/loss ratio here.
And, yeah, he's been doing it consistently over a number of years. The matches he has lost the last couple of years was five sets against Tsonga, five sets against Berdych, five sets against Rafa. He's very, very tough to beat here.
Q. Can you describe the challenge ahead of you?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah. It's a great challenge, one where I'm probably not expected to win the match, but one that, you know, if I play well, I'm capable of winning.
But, yeah, I mean, if you look at his record here over the past 10 years or so, yeah, it's been incredible. So, you know, the pressure that I would be feeling if it was against somebody else I guess it would be different.
But there will be less on me on Sunday, you know, because of who he is.
Q. What happened at the start of the third, and how did you manage to turn it back round again?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I played one bad game, and then after that I thought I played well. You know, I had a lot of games where I was giving myself chances. All of his service games I was getting 30‑All, Love‑30, had some breakpoints here and there. He played some great points.
Yeah, just didn't get off to a good start in that third set. Obviously let him back into it a little bit. He started playing better. You know, he started serving very well on the big points.
Q. Can you take us a little bit through the sequence on match point? It looked like you thought you had it won. What was happening out there?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I knew it was in when it left my racquet, and then I thought that he challenged it. I mean, obviously it was close, but then the umpire said to me that the ball had been called out and that he hadn't overruled it.
So then obviously I challenged, and that was it.
Q. What did it feel like to have that called in? It was a strange sequence of events.
ANDY MURRAY: I knew it was in, so, you know, that wasn't really an issue. Just, yeah, you just have to obviously sit and wait a little bit. Then, yeah, when I had confirmation, it was, yeah, relieved I won the match.
Q. You were talking to Jo about it at the net.
ANDY MURRAY: He said he thought it was wide and I said I thought it was in. Then, yeah, that was it.
Q. What is your main emotion at the moment? Is it possible to feel elated getting through to the final, or had that perhaps already dissipated?
ANDY MURRAY: No, tonight I think I need to make sure I enjoy myself, enjoy the win. You know, it's not every day you're through to the final of a Grand Slam, and also Wimbledon.
So I need to make sure I enjoy tonight, and then tomorrow get back on the practice court and, you know, make sure I hit enough balls tomorrow and get focused for Sunday.
Q. Do you have anything to prove to yourself on Sunday? Forget everybody else. How much fun are you having right now? You don't look like you're having too much fun.
ANDY MURRAY: Well, on Sunday, I mean, almost every time you step on the court you're trying to prove something to yourself. I think that's kind of what motivates you to get better. Also the players that are around me, as well. They would be the two things that I think you can't stay at the top of, you know, any sport, especially one as competitive as tennis, if you don't have very good self‑motivation. I think that's very important. Obviously I'll be very motivated on Sunday.
In terms of the enjoyment, yeah, I really enjoyed the win today. I've enjoyed the tournament so far. Hopefully it will be more enjoyable on Sunday.
Q. A lot of people will say over the weekend that Roger Federer is 30, he's closer to the end of the road than he is to the beginning.
ANDY MURRAY: Who will say that?
Q. People will just analyze it.
ANDY MURRAY: Who though? Who are these people? Journalists? Anybody that knows tennis, you can't use that as an example.
The last couple of years his record in the slams has been, you know, to me unbelievable. Like I said here, the matches that he's lost, he was up two sets to nothing, was it both times he lost maybe? I'm not hundred percent sure, but he was up two sets to love against Tsonga last year.
Yeah, he's lost some close matches in the slams the last few years, but he had match points against Novak at the US Open maybe two years in a row. He has lost some very close matches.
I don't think, if you look at the way he played today, you can't say he's passed it or because he's 30 he's playing worse tennis. I just think the players around have gotten better.
Q. That's what I was going to ask you. In your mind you're still playing a great Wimbledon champion, right?
continued ....
...interview continued
ANDY MURRAY: Yes.
Q. Was that the hardest game you've ever had to win?
ANDY MURRAY: Which one?
Q. The one today.
ANDY MURRAY: No, I don't think so. I mean, the first couple of sets, you know, were pretty smooth. Then after that, yeah, it was tough. It was a tough match. But like the quarterfinal match was very difficult, as well.
I mean, there certainly wasn't as many long rallies, long games like there was, you know, in the Ferrer match.
But in terms of like focus, that was probably one of the hardest matches in that respect. Because, you know, when you do win a couple of sets comfortably and you're getting close to the final of a slam, you know, it's really hard sometimes just to stay in the moment and not get too far ahead of yourself, you know, play each point and make each point as important as any one.
I did throw a game away a little bit at the beginning of the third set and it cost me a bit, but I wouldn't say it was the toughest match I've ever played.
Q. You're being understandably quite cool about the win. I don't know if you saw, but in the players' box your girlfriend was emotional and your mum was ecstatic. Have you managed to speak to them yet?
ANDY MURRAY: I haven't seen anyone except the guys that I work with. I saw Tim Henman.
Q. What was Tim's reaction?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, just, Well done. It's not the end of the tournament yet. The time for all of that stuff comes when I'm done. You know, I spoke to Ivan after the match. It was, Good job. You did really well. What time do you want to practice tomorrow? That's it. There's no time for anything else.
Q. You said you might celebrate this evening.
ANDY MURRAY: I won't celebrate. I'll just enjoy this evening. I'll go back home, have a nice meal with my girlfriend, and then, yeah, just enjoy it with her and the dogs. That's it.
I'm not going to go out and celebrate tonight, although I heard there's a cocktail party here this evening which I've been invited to but probably won't be participating in.
Q. Serena in here earlier today spoke about how you were one of the players she most enjoyed watching and what she appreciates about your game. What sort of appreciation do you have for watching her serve?
ANDY MURRAY: It's not just that. I mean, the thing about her game for me is that she's an unbelievable athlete. She's probably one of the best female athletes ever in terms of she's got strength, she's quick, you know, she's got very powerful, powerful strokes.
I mean, I saw a little bit of the match yesterday, but serving 24 aces is pretty incredible in a two‑set match. Yeah, I mean, I think as a competitor ‑ there's been some unbelievable players obviously ‑ but she's probably one of the best that the woman's tour has seen for a few years.
Q. Her serve has been right below an average guy on the ATP Tour.
ANDY MURRAY: Speed‑wise?
Q. Yes.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, well, she has a very, very good serve, like I say. She is obviously a very good athlete, but her service technique is almost perfect, as well. I think that's what is so good about it. Very few of the women can put good kick on the serve, and she has an excellent kick serve, as well.
So it's not just her first serve. Her second serve is very, very good.
Q. What would you say the biggest impact on the mental approach of your game, your coaching from Lendl, has had? How might that manifest itself in the next match?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I think, you know, like after the match today, you know, you try to make sure you don't get too excited on the court, never get too high, never get too down, which maybe in the past I was too up and down. Needed to try and be a bit more stable on the court, not be so emotional.
I'd say that's the one thing that I've learnt from kind of being around him was that, you know, like I explained after the match today, it wasn't like it was jumping around the locker room with excitement. It was, There's one more match to go. Well done today, but let's focus on the next one.
Q. When Virginia Wade was the last British woman to win a singles title here, the Queen was quite a big part of that occasion. She presented the trophy. If you were able to come on Sunday, would that add to your occasion?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I'm sure it would. But, yeah, it's tough around this time because obviously William and Kate were here the other day. You have guys like Rod Laver and Agassi here. You know, the Queen was here a few years ago, too. You know, there's a lot of pressure and stuff, but it's obviously a privilege to play in front of those sort of people.
I'm not sure if she'll be here on Sunday, but it would be nice.
Q. Does preparation for a match like this involve re‑watching matches of Roger at other finals to learn from mistakes, or is there ant irrelevance?
ANDY MURRAY: No, more watching ‑‑ my coaches will watch his matches this week. Obviously some stuff from when I would have played him before I try not to watch before I play against him. I've seen obviously some of his tennis this week. I saw obviously some of the match today, as well.
The other thing you pick up on is the thing ‑‑ I've learnt from those matches that I lost against him in the past. If you go too much into detail of things that happened in the past it's not always beneficial, because in tennis every day is different, you know.
So I just need to try and make sure I play a perfect match on Sunday.
Q. Can you imagine a more perfect scenario than beating the greatest player of all time?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it obviously would be very nice. You know, I can't allow myself to think that far ahead. Like I was trying to explain, the match today it's easy to, but you can't allow yourself to. It's not really beneficial.
You know, I'll have talked to the guys about the match tomorrow and just focus on getting the tactics right and hopefully playing a match. There's obviously going to be nerves and pressure there for sure, but I need to try and stay focused.
Q. How are you feeling physically? Do you think you'll recover well for Sunday?
ANDY MURRAY: I felt fine today. I felt less tired than I did in the match with Ferrer because, like I say, there wasn't as many long rallies.
Yeah, it wasn't that tough physically. It was more mental. That was the hard part.
But I did well to hang in at the end because he was playing better.
Q. I just got a call from Bunny Austin who was very relieved that nobody will talk about him next year. Do you think Fred Perry has good chance to be talked any more next year? On Sunday night do you think Fred Perry will benedict your win next Sunday?
ANDY MURRAY: He's not alive, though. I don't understand. (Laughter.)
Q. From up there he'll send you a benediction.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, well, I hope so. (Smiling.)
Q. You've already brought an immense amount of pride not just to the Scottish public, but all across Britain. Do you have a personal message for them?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, yeah, I'm going to need all their help on Sunday because, yeah, it's a massive challenge to win against Roger, you know, in the final of a slam, at Wimbledon. You know, I hope that all of the crowd is with me. Like I say, I'll need all of their support. It's been great so far.
They've helped me out through some tough moments the last couple of matches, and I'll definitely need it again on Sunday.
Q. Given your previous experience in Grand Slam finals, if you can win one set on Sunday, will it give you the belief and confidence to go on and win three? Will you get swept up by the momentum?
ANDY MURRAY: I think on grass more than the other surfaces, it can be ‑‑ you know, matches can change quite quickly. Most of the sets are normally decided on one or two breakpoints or a couple of mistakes here or there or a couple of great shots.
The sets aren't normally 6‑1, 6‑2 sets. Even if I lose the first set or the second set, you can always come back.
Like I said, Roger lost a couple matches from a couple sets up the last few years. So, you know, whereas in the past you might have thought going two sets down it was impossible. There's still time to come back.
But ideally you want to try to get off to a good start. You know, that would make a big difference, I'm sure.

I commentated with Perry on the BBC Radio for several years before his death in 1994, and I know Fred would approve of Murray. Perry was a tough, single-minded competitor — an individualist who strode down his own path in life. Murray shares some of those qualities, and he has the talent to back them up. Whether he can bring it all together to clear the final hurdle will depend not just on him but on the vastly experienced man across the net.
Nicks Picks (http://nickstennispicks.com/) - Nick’s Picks- Wimbledon Men’s Final
What a match we will have on Sunday. Roger Federer will take on Andy Murray, who becomes the first British player to reach the final at Wimbledon since 1938.
Both players have so much on the line. Federer has not won a grand slam in 2 years, if he wins he will truly have earned it, and will be entered into the discussion of best all time players in the history of the game. Andy Murray is playing with a new attitude and this is thanks to Ivan Lendl. Murray played the best 2 sets ever vs Tsonga. He must do the same on Sunday with his killer serves and huge groundies.
Federer will do a little of everything. Murray must play big at all times with a little change of kick serves to Federer’s backhand.
I wish I had 12 front row seats. I would sell them and retire. Will be a hot ticket and sure to be a great one. Good luck to both men and this is the final that Wimbledon deserves.

A few days before the tournament, the Wimbledon trophy took a tour outside of Britain for the first time, travelling with ESPN to the United States, where it got picked up, fondled and passed around almost like a new-born baby. It did, however, throw up something I didn’t know before. The title of the men’s trophy reads: “All England Lawn Tennis Club Single Handed Championship of the World.” Now forget about the World Series-esque ludicrousness of it all. What’s more worrying is the “single-handed” bit – does that mean Murray, with two hands on his backhand, wouldn’t be allowed to win but Federer would?!

I know we can't often trust that British weather and if there's rain about and they close the roof, I think that will favour Roger. It will mean more bounce and nice calm conditions, with no wind for the ball toss. The toss is important and Roger's is perfect, not too high, not too low. Federer will not give away two sets to Andy like Tsonga did. But I'm thinking that the longer he can stay in the match, and with the crowd behind him, the more chance Andy has.
Both are striking the ball so, so well and both have all the tools you need to succeed in the game. The difference is that Federer has been here before and Andy has not. But what an incentive for your boy. If he never wins another Slam, people would remember him for this one. And when you've shown the world you can win one, you gain a lot of respect, from opponents too, and you say to yourself, "I've been there, baby, I can do it". I would have to say Federer has the advantage with all his experience. What Andy must do is come out all guns blazing right from the start – and then who knows?

I've been enoying the Sky Wimbledon reports this week. Often they have had Mark Petchey on the 9.30 one and Miles on the 11.30 one, and Barry Cowan on the 10.30 one. They have also had Ross Hutchins on a lot, Arvind Palmer etc.

You can work out which ones to read a little bit, for eg you may have a favourite paper, or just look at the BBC ones. And if an article has been by a tennis play or coach eg Brad Gilbert I have mentioned it.
Found the article on Bunny Austin in the Scottish Daily Record really interesting.

Annacone on whether Murray is getting closer to winning a first slam: “Absolutely he’s getting closer. Look at the matches he’s lost. Look at the match he played against Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of this year’s Australian Open. He’s right there. Losing is no fun. Andy is an unbelievably competitive kid. He’s a perfectionist. He doesn’t like to lose. He’s going to keep working hard. If he keeps on playing, opportunities will keep on presenting themselves and he will be holding a slam trophy very soon. There’s no rush for Andy. He’s losing slam finals, but so what. He’s getting to slam finals. He’s right there. That’s no magic pill. Just keep putting yourself in that situation and you’ll break through eventually.”

This one's very interesting.....wonder if Murray/Lendl expected these tactics. It would be interesting to see stats before/after the rain delay.
You're right Gary, that is an interesting article. Considering the number of net approaches were double in the Final as compared to his previous matches, it suggests that Murray/Lendl would not have been expecting them. And 78% is an enormous percentage. Maybe the conditions with the roof closed helped.
I would love to see Andy develop his net game more. When well executed it can certainly take the time away from the opponent and break their rhythm; whilst it must be kinder on the joints etc - how many times did Andy slip whilst racing round the court, compared to Federer? And it looks like a tactic that will aid a player to keep playing longer too.
The stats are still there on the slam tracker. If you unclick the match summary box and keep all the set boxes clicked you get a break down of each set.
http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/slamtracker/slamtracker.html?ts=1341845836969&ref=www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/index.html&syn=none
Fed increased his net approaches from 69-76 in the first 3 sets to 92 in the 4th set.
I wondered if the improvement in Fed's game came as a result of discussions with Annacone during the rain break, but since his net approaches increased significantly in the 4th set, it suggests otherwise.
The deterioration in Murray's serving performance was unfortunate, & that's down to him, (& pressure from Fed) but there didn't seem to be any any improvement to his game after the break. I wonder if the discussion with Lendl was amenable?
I think you are probably right about Annacone's advice in the rain break Gary but I think Lendl would have probably said to Andy 'more of the same' - he was doing pretty well and it was working until then. I also think that the heavy fall may have accounted in some part for the decline in Andy's first serve percentage.

You've misunderstood Alis.....the rain break was at the beginning of the 3rd.....Fed's tactic change was in the 4th. The change seemed to be Fed's idea.
Murray's fall.....perhaps.....but the ex-pro commentators didn't comment, & no medical timeout suggests otherwise....???

Tom Tebbutt's final Wimbly blog: (http://www.tenniscanada.com/index.php?title=Tebbutt:-Peliwo-Wins-the-Big-One&pid=3943)
THE QUESTION IS ANSWERED
Watching the Andy Murray – Roger Federer (above relaxing during practice before Wimbledon began) final in Centre Court on Sunday, I wrote down the headline for the piece I would write on the match: one was what is above for a Federer victory, the other was “He Did It.”
The latter is self-explanatory, and the one at the top refers to the question that has been asked constantly over the last year or so to many people, including yours truly because of my involvement with tennis. It is, “can Roger Federer win another Grand Slam title.”
Like many others, I have thought that he would probably win one more – two at the outside – and that Wimbledon was the most likely place.
It happened today and I have to say my first reaction was not exactly joy because I really hoped Murray would win. Not at all that I don’t appreciate Federer, but I just wanted Murray to finally get the “not having won a Grand Slam” monkey off his back.
Listening to him during this year’s Wimbledon, I have become more and more convinced that he doesn’t have a dishonest bone in his body. While the words come out in a slow, monotone drawl, they are dead-on in terms of answering questions in an honest, direct and unfiltered manner.
As I watched the match, it seemed that he had a good chance when he won the first set and then had two games in which he had two break points in the second. But he couldn’t convert them.
Once he lost the second set, what I feared before the match might happen did happen – Federer began to free-flow, especially once the roof was closed. When he does that, whirling Roger lashes forehands with carefree abandon to parts of the court Murray cannot cover and seems to almost float and glide around, reaching shots and sending them back with ‘interest,’ as the Brits like to put it.
I have seen this before against Murray, most memorably in the 2010 Australian Open final, the last time Federer won a Grand Slam title. When his game like that – so fluid and offensive – he begins to overwhelm Murray.
If Murray had a more attacking forehand, he might be able to stay with a Federer in that kind of form. But without it, only a drop in level by Federer can allow for any chance in the match.
It did not happen and the superior Federer, feeling more and more confident, gradually dominated an opponent who is simply not quite as good as him.
It was moving to see the raw emotion from Murray at the presentation ceremony, but I truly wonder if he will ever win a Slam. There are not only Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal installed ahead of him. But at age 25, there could be guys like Milos Raonic, Bernard Tomic and others coming up from behind.
And some interesting stuff about our Cdn juniors. Eugenie Bouchard is a contemporary of Laura Robson and they are friends, so much so she stayed with Laura's family during Wimbly and app. she's dating a British junior (but I don't know who it is).

Off topic but another Canadian appears to have righted the ship in his match in Newport.
Milos is now 1 set all and 3 games all v Ebden.

Yes, I'm watching Milos' match on tennistv. Have to say he's not playing very well.
I'm not sure if this has already been posted but according to twitter we won't be seeing Simon Fuller in Andy's box for much longer as he's looking for a new agent.
daniel kaplan @dkaplanSBJ
Can confirm report out today Andy Murray shopping 4 new agent.Currently repped by Simon Fuller. other candidiates will be Lagardere, IMG
Look for Andy murray agent sweepstakes to heat up around US open, where I would expect a decision to be made. His mom, Judy, big player here
He seems to be in the know but then the bit about Judy being a "big player" seems a bit dubious.

As soon as Federer left IMG the rumour mill (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:HGeAYvrfEE4J:www.10sballs.com/2012/06/05/img-is-trying-to-recruit-andy-murray/+andy+murray+management+IMG&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk)started about who they might target to replace him as one of their top sporting clients from the tennis world. Word at the time, in various press, was that they might be interested in Andy. In the past the Murrays have gone about this aspect of their business very quietly so I'm surprised anything, truth or otherwise, has surfaced like this ...
Reading Daniel Kaplan's subsequent timeline he says this has been going on for months and the fact it came out this week is not related to the apparent rise in Andy's "stock" as the result of Wimbledon. He also suggests that IMG are getting out of athlete representation so he doesn't know how serious they will be whereas Lagardere have money to throw around. From their website they represent Azerenka, Wozniacki, Roddick, Monfils, Isner among many other tennis players.

DavidLaw @DavidLawTennis
Great quote - which comes from an interesting, longish article in today's Times. Just trying to pick bits out of it....
"It didn't surprise me how much it meant to him," Lendl said. "I guess we will never know how I would have reacted in a similar situation and, as you know, I don't like guessing........I put myself in the position of Andy's parents. It is not easy." Had he shed a tear? "You will never know."
What had he learnt about working with Andy..."That working with him is great. That he asks a lot of questions, which is very important, and that helping someone achieve what they want to achieve is an exceptional thing....Even though I was rooting for him in all he did, it wasn't the same for me. I wasn't born in this country. I don't live here. Andy has a British heart and I don't, so only he can properly describe what dealing with all of that is like...."
"If you can cope with what he dealt with at Wimbledon, I believe it makes it easier to handle what may come his way in other places. If he is happy with the way things are going with me, I am happy with that also......."
Mentions he won't be at the Olympics, but will join Andy at Toronto for the Rogers Cup and also Cincinnati.
So glad Lendl's in Andy's corner.

Ivan Lendl will be keeping his distance as pupil Andy Murray competes in the London Olympics, with the coach watching proceedings at home in Connecticut.
Lendl, 52, spent the spring and early summer with his charge as Murray made it to the French Open semi-finals and the final of Wimbldon, where he lost to Roger Federer. Lendl, a keen golfer missed the cut by one stroke for an event in his home state this week at the Connecticut Open, will be advising Murray remotely as the Scot tries for cherished Olympic gold.
The pair will re-unite for next month's Toronto Masters 1000 and move through to the US Open.

Laughter is not a characteristic you would immediately associate with Andy Murray but as the 25-year-old Scot told journalists at British team headquarters near London's Olympic Park yesterday: "I laugh a lot – just not in front of you guys. Your questions normally aren't that funny. I go to quite a lot of comedy shows and stand-up comedy. Laughing is normally the best way to get over most things."
..........
Returning to Wimbledon two days after his defeat in the final also played a part. "I went back to pick up a couple of bags," he said. "Then I went back on Centre Court and just sat there for a little while. I was thinking a little bit about the match and then thinking a bit about what it was going to be like at the Olympics.
"The whole venue changed so quickly after the tournament. They already had all the London 2012 backdrops up at the back of the court. It actually looks quite different with all the purple round it. It maybe got my mind to looking forward."

I totally agree. His suspicion of the press has lestened and he has learned to avoid all the pitfalls which he fell into in the early days.
He has matured both as a player and in confidence with the media.
Love him to bits - just praying that he can come away with a medal
