I'm not going to be on-line for a couple of days, so I'd be grateful if peeps could post any good newspaper articles they come across.

Asked about his back, Murray said: “It’s fine. I practised the last couple of days on the grass.
“It is probably a better surface for us; it is a bit more forgiving than the clay. There are a lot of long rallies on the clay, long points, long matches so the grass will probably help it a bit.”

Yep beat you to it Ron (see post before yours)
With regard to Tommy pot kettle back springs to mind. He was certainly no Florence Nightingale on court throughout his career, in fact he has one of the shortest tempers ever.
You'd expect better from a veteran like Haas is.
Anyways I don't think Andy cares and if anything it may spur him on!
Yep beat you to it Ron (see post before yours)Clever girl
Haas wasn't even being asked about Andy when he felt the need to bring it up. When he says it's being discussed in the locker room he probably means the bedroom with his low-rent wife. Her notorious behaviour is legendary when courtside watching hubby play. Furthermore she tweeted this after Andy played Nieminen.
Players who fake injuries have no respect in my book. Its so obvious and transparent to fans. That crap should be left in the juniors.
Barker, Fleming and Lloyd were discussing Hass's comments at the start of BBC coverage today suggesting Andy is not going to enjoy his post match interview. Peter Fleming was complimentary about Andy saying he'd just spoken to him (not about this) in the player's lounge and what an affable guy he was and it's a shame this sort of thing is given such attention. He said that he thinks he does feel pain when he grabs his back and shows it whereas many would not and whats wrong with that whereas unsurprisingly Lloyd was very much along the lines of Haas, suggesting it was premeditated.

Yeah, John Lloyd was dreadful on BBC, really annoying! Considering he must know Andy well, having been his DC Captain for a while, I thought his comments were totally uncalled for. Thank goodness Peter Fleming was there too, to add a bit of sense....:grrr:

I never liked Tommy and am not surprised at his remarks - think it's a case of sour grapes. Agree it was unprofessional of him and he should have kept his mouth shut. He doesn't know what injuries Andy carries with him on to the court - he is not a member of Andy's team.
I really appreciated the input of Jim Courier and Amelie Mauresmo in the French Open. Thought Jim was very positive about Andy. I agree with him that Andy should just keep working hard and continue to believe in his grand slam dream. There will come a time when the present top 3 are fading and Andy must be ready to step in to fulfil his dream before the next generation steps up to the plate. :swingin:
I wish the BBC would hire Jim for the Wimbledon coverage team. :)

That was definitely not the case during the French Open.
For people to suggest he is faking the injuries is ridculous. Who would let themselves lose the first set (as in the Niemenen match) in order to have to win the next 3?

Rafa had a lovely response when asked about Andy in his Halle interview. (http://www.gerryweber-open.de/gwo_en/Interviews/2012/14.06.2012/Interview-with-Rafael-Nadal-after-his-win-against-Lukas-Lacko)
Q: The other day Tommy Haas said that sometimes Andy Murray is faking injuries. Do you agree with that opinion?
NADAL: I can’t say nothing wrong with Andy. He’s a great guy. In my opinion if we talk about what happened at the French Open against Nieminen that’s why probably. In my opinion, he never does this to bother the opponent. So, that’s the most important thing. It’s difficult to explain but I really believe in Andy. I think he’s a fair guy, a good competitor. I’m 100% sure that he was doing nothing to bother the opponent, to take advantage. The disadvantage was for him in the French Open against Nieminen when that happened in the beginning of the match. At the end, he came back. The real thing is when he was in injury in Paris at the beginning he was losing 6-1, 3-1. So, that’s the real thing.
No wonder I love Rafa so much! http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd287/Granny_Linda/Smileys/rainbow-2.gif

Evening Standard (http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/other-sports/doctor-orders-andy-murray-to-avoid-doubles-trouble-7854323.html)- Doctor orders Andy Murray to avoid doubles trouble
Jamie yesterday revealed the pair had entered the doubles but Andy withdrew to ensure he did not further damage his back, having already been given cortisone injections and intensive physiotherapy.
Playing doubles at Queen’s would have been the brothers’ only competitive outing before representing Great Britain at the London Olympics.
Andy will spend the build-up to Wimbledon, which starts a week on Monday, training on grass while trying to avoid undue pressure on his back — a tricky juggling act given the arrival of rain to make the practise courts at SW19 slippery.
Jamie said: “We were entered into the tournament but then Andy didn’t want to play because of his back. He was told by the doctor, ‘You’ve had your injections and now you probably need to rest a little bit’.
“So he’s like, ‘Well, I’d rather miss doubles here’, but I guess he might regret that now. I don’t really see it as a massive issue and he played fine against Mahut. He didn’t win but it certainly wasn’t his back that made him lose. We will try and practise in the lead up to the Olympics, against other teams.”

Seemingly, there was a story in yesterday's Evening Standard saying that Jamie had said Andy had been advised not to play doubles at Queen's - as originally planned - because he had had cortisone injections in his back and intensive physiotherapy and his doctors have advised rest. No wonder Andy didn't give it his all against Mahut. So sorry for him that this had to happen this year of all years.

Andy Murray
LONDON, ENGLAND
N. MAHUT/A. Murray
6‑3, 6‑7, 7‑6
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Where did you feel it went wrong, Andy?
ANDY MURRAY: I don't think it all went wrong. I mean, it was a very close match. I thought losing serve at the beginning of the third set after breaking him was probably not great. Got him back into the match.
Then, yeah, I missed probably about four shots on the tape and a roll in a tiebreak. They were probably the bits that didn't help.
Q. Was it the case of adjusting to the grass or he played particularly well or a little bit of both?
ANDY MURRAY: I didn't move very well at the start of the match. I started to move better.
I mean, he's a very good grass court player. He's been in the final here. He's beaten Nadal and a point away from winning the tournament. He's a very good grass court player. He played well today.
Q. As far as Wimbledon goes, how worried are you about that?
ANDY MURRAY: Oh, panic stations. I've just got no chance to be ready for Wimbledon now. It's going to be impossible, I think. (Smiling.)
It happens often. I mean, Djokovic isn't playing the next two weeks, so, I mean, there is no need for me to panic. You know, I lost the match 7‑6 in the third in the first round of the tournament. You know, it takes a bit of time to adjust to the grass courts.
Q. What will you do from now on?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I don't know. I'll discuss with the guys over the next couple of days as to what I'm going to do, whether I play one or two of the exhibition matches next week.
Unlikely I would play a tournament, but I'll probably try and get a couple more matches.
Q. Do you feel things have been going well in practice the last few days?
ANDY MURRAY: I didn't spend hardly any time on the court, really. So, yeah. I mean, I don't know. It obviously rained a lot the last few days. I was hitting the ball fine today. It wasn't like I was shanking balls and mishitting. I just need to spend more time on the grass.
Q. Was that a factor, you think, in the defeat today, the fact you hadn't had much time on grass?
ANDY MURRAY: It was exactly the same for both of us. Weather has been the same for everybody in the tournament. It was not exactly a factor. Just for me I need a few more days to get my movement right, and then I'll play better.
Q. Is this the most difficult transition, do you think, in the game? If you're a little bit worried about the treacherous nature of the grass, does that sow a few seeds of doubt in your mind?
ANDY MURRAY: I have never really had a problem with it before, but that's probably one of the toughest first matches I've also played here, as well.
Normally it's a transition I found not too bad, but I did struggle with my movement especially earlier on in the match. That's something that I will need to improve.
Q. There have been quite a few instances recently of you dropping serve immediately after you've made a breakthrough. Is that something you've talked about with Ivan?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I've discussed many, many things with him. I mean, the match in the French Open against Ferrer, that happened numerous times. I mean, it happened‑‑ I mean, I think it happened once today.
You know, in the match against Ferrer it happened way, way too often. You know, but I think you can look at things in loads of detail, and you actually need to go back and watch the match and see if it's something you were doing wrong. Sometimes obviously guys are going to play good games.
The match against Ferrer, it happened too often for it to be his good play every time. Today I'll need to have a look and see what happened.
Q. Does that become a factor? Do you think about that? When you break serve, do you think, Oh, I hope I don't go into that mode again and drop serve straightaway?
ANDY MURRAY: No, I've played probably close to 450, 500 matches, so, you know, you can go through periods sometimes where you're serving for a set and you struggle, and it maybe takes a few weeks or a few matches before you kind of get it out of your system.
Sometimes the start of matches you find it tough at the start, and then you might go out on the court the next week maybe a little bit anxious. Then obviously the last couple of weeks, I mean ‑‑I mean, I don't know. I wasn't thinking about that today at all. I wasn't thinking about my match with Ferrer when I was playing out there one bit. So I don't think it will be a problem in the next couple of weeks.
Q. When you get onto the grass, what is the bigger factor? The timing of your shots or the movement or it just goes hand in hand?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I mean, it's a lot of things. I mean, tactics, as well, is something, and getting used to actually playing the points. Points develop very differently on the grass, as well, than on the clay.
Also the situations in matches as well are very different on the grass. So there's many, many things that go into it.
Q. Tommy Haas yesterday suggested you have more injuries and you make the most out of them. Are you disappointed in that?
ANDY MURRAY: No. That's good for him. Nothing to say on it. That's good. Good for him.
Q. (Off microphone.)
ANDY MURRAY: No, the time I have been on tour I've been called many, many things from my personality not being exciting enough. I have been called boring. It was said I was unfit, lazy, fake injuries. I mean, all sorts.
It's something that kind of goes hand in hand with playing sport. People criticize you regularly. So something you need to ‑‑you need to just deal with. But, I mean, I don't care for his opinion.
Q. The thing about not playing doubles here?
ANDY MURRAY: It was nothing, nothing to do with it. I mean, it's very easy to try and overanalyze a match, I think. Today it was a very close match. It wasn't like I went out on the court and got blown away and played horribly.
You know, like I say, I didn't feel like I moved particularly well at the start of the match. I would have liked to have started the match a bit better.
I thought I played some decent tennis, and I felt like I was striking the ball well. Then in the third‑set tiebreak, I missed some shots on the tape. I missed three shots in a row, I think I hit the tape, and one an inch or two wide on the 1‑0 point.
Yeah, ideally I would have liked to have started the tiebreaker a bit better and not missed those shots.
Q. You may consider Eastbourne?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, very, very unlikely I would play a tournament next week.

Nicolas Mahut
LONDON, ENGLAND
N. MAHUT/A. Murray
6‑3, 6‑7, 7‑6
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. You started so confidently. Did you feel coming into the match that you thought you had a good chance today?
NICOLAS MAHUT: No, I just tried to play from the first point till the end the same way: playing my game, playing aggressive, don't think too much about the score. I played really well today. This is the key.
Him, he didn't serve very well. Then I had some chances on his second serve. After winning the first set, then I got more confident.
Q. Do you think actually having a match before he starts is a distinct advantage?
NICOLAS MAHUT: Of course it's a big advantage. For him was his first match. It's never easy to start on the grass when you played like two months on clay. Then even if he had three or four practice days on the grass, it's not easy to start.
I had the play match yesterday and I played well yesterday, and I knew my game I was ready to compete again top player.
You know, after winning first set, for him it's not easy. Even if he's world No. 4, it's not easy to come on centre court, everyone expecting him to win. You know, it's not easy, even for him.
Q. Is this one of your best wins?
NICOLAS MAHUT: You know, my best win before was Nadal here on the same court, centre court. So it's a lucky court for me. (Smiling.)
Rafa was very good performance, but today beating Andy Murray here in Queen's, it's very special, but it's only second round.
Q. He seemed to think it was a bit slippery. Was it?
NICOLAS MAHUT: Yeah, it was very slippery. But yesterday, as well, it was really slippery and I get used to it. Was not easy, not easy to move on the court today.

I particularly liked what he said about Haas. PseudoFed must be an Andy fan :)
Now some words about Herr Haas. I have heard that he has appointed himself as top ATP physio person specialist. How does this affect the players? I believe that when playing him, if you need a trainer to touch your legs during a match you now have to ask Haas for the permissions and not the umpire (the one who sits in the very high chair). If you don’t do this I understand Haas will get very upset and make opinions about you.

Everybody else has to go through three of those guys.”

Andy Murray (GBR) vs. Nikolay Davydenko (RUS)
Murray began 2012 playing great tennis, but the summer has been a bit up and down. Now that he’s back on grass and playing in front of the home fans we will have to see what kind of impact that has on him. He’s been to the semis here three straight years and he’s still looking to breakthrough and win his first Grand Slam title. If he could pull that off at Wimbledon he will go down as a legend in Great Britain! He’s got a tough opponent in the first round in Davydenko. The former ton-ten player isn’t the same guy he was a few years ago, but he still can move well and make you work hard for every point. Murray should be able to win this match, but Davydenko won’t go down without a fight.

Yes feeling pretty low about the way Andy's chances have been dismissed by most of the press - even Harman seems to be avoiding anything positive
But everyone knows he has a back injury so they're hardly likely to predict him to win it, are they?

Don't feel low, I'm sure Andy will come out all guns blazing, determined to show the bug..s what he can do.
Delighted at any negativity. If he can have the pressure removed so much the better. I'm just hoping he's been keeping his powder dry and is ready with a surprise for us. Must admit though I'm feeling pretty low key about the whole thing myself given his injury and the draw.

Independent (http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/tennis/murray-yes-ive-got-a-problem-but-its-not-all-in-my-head-7878660.html) - Murray: Yes, I've got a problem. But it's not all in my head
"If someone is going to say to me that my back injury is not genuine, they can come see my reports from the doctors, they can see the pictures of a needle about eight inches long in my back," a clearly agitated Murray snapped. "I'm not accepting it any more because it's not fair."
He added: "A lot of people have suggested that it hasn't been genuine, but I've a genuine injury, a genuine back problem. It's not a mental thing. Often when things do start to get better, for a little while you can be over-sensitive in that area and think, 'Oh, is that maybe right? Is that not right?' or whatever. But with my back problem, it's certainly nothing that's mental. It's something that's there."
Although Murray has steadfastly refused to specify the injury, he revealed that he had had eight pain-killing injections in his back last month before the French Open. "It's a problem I had for a while at the beginning of the year," he said. "I played through it for five months and it just got worse and then I took the injections and it feels better since I had them done."
Murray is hoping he will not need any more injections over the course of the summer. "Guys get painkillers and pain-killing injections before big events all the time and you need to just take them at the right time, because they do last for quite a long time, but you don't exactly want them to wear off," he said.

"I haven't been doing that for a while now but it wasn't necessarily a gluten-free diet. It was certain things I wasn't eating and now I'm eating most things again. Blood intolerances, the things you can and cannot eat, change when you cut them out of your diet. You become able to eat them after two or three months. Results change and you adjust your diet accordingly."

Tom Tebbutt's Monday blog with some observations as follows: (http://www.tenniscanada.com/index.php?title=Tebbutt:-The-One-&-Only-Wimbledon&pid=3906)
On Saturday, I walked up Church Road from the All England Club to Wimbledon Village. It’s about a 10-minute, uphill hike.
Not too far from the Wimbledon Village High (i.e. Main) Street, I saw an attractive woman walking my way on the sidewalk wearing a dark leather jacket. Soon, I realized it was Caroline Wozniacki just headed down toward the club – or maybe to the house in the area where she is staying.
A little further along, I saw former British No. 1 John Lloyd talking on a cell phone before I went on and dropped in to the Oxfam second-hand shop.
There was a fairly tiny clientele inside the store – Wimbledon Village is an upscale area – and a rather extroverted guy who worked there was quite busy chatting with people and almost being overly helpful. When I asked him if any tennis players ever came into the shop, he said, “Oh yes, Roger Federer. He came in and told us that British Airways had lost his luggage and wondered if we could help him get some clothes.”
“What a great story,” I said to him. “Really?”
“No,” he replied, ruining a great scoop for me.
I had been had!
I then headed down to Wimbledon to the Sainsburys supermarket. There I bought a few things and saw British player Anne Keothavong doing her shopping just like the rest of us.
And quote of the day goes to Gulbis from his post-match interview:
Q. Is there anything you enjoy more than playing tennis?
ERNESTS GULBIS: “Yeah, a lot of stuff.”
Q. Like what? Give me some examples.
ERNESTS GULBIS: “What do you mean, enjoy most in life?”
Q. Without being really, really like polite, what is the biggest thing which you enjoy in life? Music? Verdasco says it’s food.
ERNESTS GULBIS: “Okay, Verdasco, it’s his hairstyle it looks like he enjoys the most. Put gel in his hair. Me, I will keep it a secret what I enjoy. Think about it. I think you all know.”
 Yes, I think we all do. Sweden anyone???

There is indubitably a certain facial resemblance between Nikolay Davydenko and Vincent van Gogh, give or take the odd severed ear. The Russian also mirrors the great Post-Impressionist by his complex demeanour, manifested in looks and gestures that bespeak a profound anguish. Of those he made plenty on Tuesday night, as if despairing at the merciless force of Andy Murray’s onslaught.

. MURRAY/N. Davydenko
6‑1, 6‑1, 6‑4
Q. What is the gesture you did in celebration?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, it's something for me and the guys that I work with. I don't really want to go into too much detail because I'll end up getting asked about it every single day.
Q. Nothing to do with pointing to heaven and God, is it?
ANDY MURRAY: Whether it is or not, I'm not going to tell anyone.
Q. It was a helluva start, that quality of tennis.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it was a good start, and I knew obviously when I drew him I was going to need to start the tournament well, playing good tennis.
Yeah, I mean, I struck the ball well. It's been a long couple of weeks since Queen's. Yeah, obviously with the rain and stuff today, there was a chance might have to play under the roof or there might be some stop/starting.
So once I got ahead, I really tried to keep it up; did a good job.
Q. A combination of the slice and then going to the forehand as well, is causing all kinds of problems, isn't it?
ANDY MURRAY: No, it worked well. He hasn't had his best results on this surface. Normally that can be down to things like the ball jumps off the surface differently from a slice so I used to that mix it up and flatten the ball out when I had a chance to take his time away.
Yeah, I did that well throughout. The slice worked well.
Q. Is it one of those days where since the moment you walked out on court, you looked like
you were comfortable in your own skin.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, well, like I say, it was a long couple of weeks with, you know, a lot of time on the practice court, a lot of talk about various things. I just wanted to go and play. I wanted to play tennis, that was it.
I played well. Like I say, once I got ahead of him, I wanted to make sure I didn't let him back in. You know, he's very, very dangerous. He's a very good returner as well. I needed to stay concentrated on my serve, and I did it well.
Q. Immediately after the match, there's been a lot of talk in the buildup to this tournament. Is there a part of you that likes proving something to people who maybe doubt you?
ANDY MURRAY: No. Well, yeah, I mean, if someone doesn't want to do well, then it's nice to play well. Yeah, of course.
I mean, every week going into Wimbledon, the week beforehand, there's talk about all sorts of things. It's not this one more than any other one.
It's just something where because I didn't do well at Queen's, it's been a lot longer to get through all the practice days and the preparation, yeah, and all the other stuff that goes on the week before Wimbledon.
Glad I played well.
Q. There was a sense of urgency brought on by the weather, trying to beat the rain or darkness.
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I was just saying because there was a chance it might rain, and obviously there were a couple of delays during the day, you know, ideally you don't want to be going from outdoors to indoors.
You know, once I had the momentum I didn't want it to stop because of the rain or having the roof on. I just wanted to try to get off the court, if I could, as quickly and efficiently as possible. I did it.
Q. Just wondered how much motivation you drew from the quite cutting and scathing comments by some former and current players over the weekend. Your response to being called a drama queen, for example.
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I mean, that happened a few weeks ago. I haven't heard anything that has been said the last few days.
I just wanted to go out there today, play well, keep my focus, and not worry about the other stuff that goes on off the court around this time of the year.
I think I did a good job of that. Time to let the tennis do the talking.
Q. Such a convincing victory was a good way of silencing your few doubters.
ANDY MURRAY: No, I don't think that today's win stops that. I mean, the way that you, I guess, stop getting asked questions or have people doubting you is by playing tennis and winning tennis matches. That's what I need to do the rest of the tournament.
Q. This summer would you rather win the Wimbledon or the Olympic medal?
ANDY MURRAY: I'd take either. Both are great for different reasons. Both tough to win. But I don't know. Either would be good.
interview continued
Q. Is it still special, Wimbledon?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it's very special, a very special tournament, special court. So, yeah. I mean, I'm always motivated to play well here and do well. I always enjoy playing on the Centre Court.
Q. There's now five in the second round. How delighted are you for James and the three girls to be there?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, anytime the Brits do well in slams it's good for British tennis. Yeah, I saw a little bit of Jamie's match, as well. Looked like he was playing well, holding his own against Roddick. It's been a good tournament so far, and hopefully it continues.
Q. Comparing two and three years ago, do you think this time you're coming to Wimbledon with less pressure? If yes, does it help you?
ANDY MURRAY: No. I think pressure's always the same really for me, because I put the same pressure on myself each Grand Slam to play my best tennis. So it doesn't change.
I have more experience probably to deal with that pressure a bit better than I used to.
Q. What is your first conscious memory of the player Ivan Lendl when you were a kid?
ANDY MURRAY: I never saw him play when I was a kid. I've only seen him play since I got older. That's one of the good things about the Internet. I watched quite a lot of his matches on YouTube, clips of him playing.
Yeah, he was obviously a great player, very ruthless, one of the best players that ever played. I'm glad to have him working with me.
Q. The Olympic wildcards were announced. Do you have an opinion on who should carry the flag, and is it something you would be interested in doing?
ANDY MURRAY: Carry the flag?
Q. In the opening ceremony.
ANDY MURRAY: That's got nothing to do would the wildcards. I didn't see the wildcards, so I don't know. Yeah, I've not seen them.
In terms of who should carry the flag, there's many great Olympians. Yeah, I don't really have an opinion on it. That's for someone else to decide.
Q. What would be the difference for you playing Wimbledon and the Olympics on the same arena?
ANDY MURRAY: I can't say really until I play. I mean, the motivation will still be the same. I mean, I think the atmosphere maybe will be a bit different I would have thought.
Q. In what way?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I just always think it might be a different crowd. I don't know. I just think it might be a little bit different to when the tournament's getting played. I just have that feeling.
Q. Looks like it's going to be Ivo Karlovic next. A completely different match than today. Do you enjoy the challenge of facing someone like him on grass?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it's a tough match. It's very hard to get into a rhythm against someone like that. I mean, he's made it very difficult for a lot of players over the last five, six years because he serves so well, makes you feel pretty uncomfortable on the court.
So there's going to be games where you might not even touch the ball where he's serving, so you need to try and stay in the zone and not kind of lose focus on your service games. I'll need to serve well against him.
Q. One of your great strengths is your returning. Do you look at the Karlovic match and think, Let's see how the returns are at the moment?
ANDY MURRAY: It's a bit different than, say if you're playing someone six foot that serves well, that's when you would normally see how well you're returning.
A lot kind of depends on the day when you're playing a guy that's 6'10" because a lot of it's just reaction. Sometimes you'll see it; sometimes you'll might pick a couple serves in a row; sometimes you won't.
I wouldn't say it's the best way to say whether somebody returns well or not, but certainly very challenging.
Q. For the sheer joy of going back and playing with some legend from past times, who would you choose to have an imaginary match against?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, pretty hard to pick one. I would have liked to have played against Sampras, Agassi. For me, I saw them playing when I was growing up. I know their game a little bit and have seen them play.
I practiced with Agassi a few times and learnt a lot from that. Obviously watched Sampras play many times. For me, that would be a fun match. Like we were just saying with the return, that would be a guy you would see how well you actually return against because he had such a great serve.
Q. What did you learn from Andre?
ANDY MURRAY: Just from practicing with him, he's incredibly intense. From what I saw, he didn't spend loads of hours on the practice court. He spent slightly less amount of time on the practice court, but the time he did spend was incredibly intense.
He went on there focused, did his job, got off, and got out of there. He didn't spend too much time hanging around the courts, which is something I've learnt, because it can be quite tiring.
Q. How do you prepare for playing somebody as up in the air as Karlovic? If you're going to play a lefty, you sort out a lefty to practice with. Do you get Danny to stand on a box or something?
ANDY MURRAY: Even when I'm not playing someone like Karlovic, when I'm practicing, I always had Danny or any of my coaches really stand and serve just from behind the service line just for the reaction and getting used to the ball coming from that height.
Yeah, that's something that's really the only thing you can do. Then I would assume he'll come into net a lot, so hit a lot of passing shots in practice tomorrow.

I heard Janet Street Porter firing off about Andy yesterday on 5Live.
She was banging on about his behaviour and that he has no regards for the people who pay to watch and then brought up that he doesnt like being part of the United Kingdom!!
Richard Bacon told her she was misquoting him but i was horrified at how opinionated she was and also how ill-informed! That sort of comment can do a lot of damage!

I think most people still call it Henman Hill, don't they?
Yes, and I think that is fair enough. It was originally named for Henman, when people started gathering on the hill to watch him on the big screen. It's all unofficial anyway - if you go to Wimbledon don't bother looking for signs to it - the official name is Aorangi Terrace.

I was watching closely after a few foot faults were called - not as to whether or not they were faults, the tv view isn't good enough. From what I could see, he definitely was placing his very large feet almost touching the line almost every time, it would be very easy to move just that little bit. The foot fault rule is there for a reason - the closer you are to the net, the easier it is to serve over the net and in the box. I would have thought his great height was enough advantage in that respect, he could easily have stood an inch or even two further back from the line and still had more of an advantage than most players. He did step back a little immediately after being faulted, but a few points later he was back to his normal position.
I wish there was a hawkeye camera on the baselines so that footfaults could be proved.
yes, I do wonder if they'll bring in some sort of technology to challenge footfaults.

Tom Tebbutt's Thursday blog: (http://www.tenniscanada.com/index.php?title=Tebbutt:-A-Shell-Shocked-Wimbledon&pid=3918)
I was told by well-placed sources on tour that Rosol is a real jerk, widely disliked by his fellow players. A suggestion of that was visible after the match when he tossed his racquet toward at the net (and it deflected over it) as he moved forward to shake hands with Nadal. That Nadal would shake hands and then step over and pick up the racquet and hand it to Rosol was a sign of what a decent guy he is – his true character coming out despite the gut-wrenching disappointment of the moment.
I'll be doing the newspaper artlicles later on today when I get back.

Coaching report: Andy Murray v Ivo Karlovic
The way Ivo Karlovic served yesterday – sending down those missiles at an average speed of 127mph – would have been enough to beat most people in the men's draw at the Championships. Even his second serve averaged 118mph.
But Andy Murray stood firm and let me tell you what this was a true test of. This was all about Murray's mental discipline over the course of three tough, tough hours out there on Centre Court. And he passed it with flying colours.
This was a big moment. It showed to me, and to opponents out there, that he can handle it up top. There are those who think he can be broken mentally but yesterday he stood fast and said, "No way, man".
This is the influence of Ivan Lendl and this is where Murray's new coach has had such a big impact. It was no easy second-round match yesterday – Karlovic played well, served well and got to the net. Rhythm can be difficult to find against such an opponent, which all players are desperate to do.
Murray returned well, as we knew he would, across the four sets and served well too – he gave Karlovic only one break point throughout.
But here's a key number – Murray made just eight unforced errors. Now you can talk of serves and volleys and backhands all night but that last figure says it all to me. This match was won because he stayed stable in the mind. It was a major breakthrough and it suggests to me that he will go well into the second week.

ANDY MURRAY: Yeah. Any match you just want to try to find a way to win. It's not always about how you play.
But today, yeah, I mean, you can't sort of judge necessarily how well you struck the ball or any stroke in particular. But you need to show good patience, mental strength. I think I did a good job of that today 'cause, you know, got off to a bad start of 40 Love down, and then I broke straightaway, straight back.
Then after losing that tight second set, to get that break at the beginning of the third set was important as well. So I did a good job.
Q. I think you said before that John Isner has the best serve in tennis. His must be up there.
ANDY MURRAY: Today his second serve, he was going for huge second serves. I've played him before. I don't remember him serving that big on his second serves. A lot of times he was in the high 120s on the second serve.
It's also a different match because he's coming in behind it as well; whereas Isner stays back. So you can get away with maybe just blocking the return in and getting yourself in the rally against Isner.
Against him, you need to look to do something with the return, because if it's just up here, he volleys well. He hit a few great volleys today.
Q. He thought he had been unfairly treated because of his foot faults. Were you aware he was getting annoyed?
ANDY MURRAY: There was a lot of foot faults in the match. Impossible for me to say whether they were foot faults or not. You can only look on the TV. And if he wasn't foot faulting then he has a right to be upset, because there was a lot of them. But if he was, then you can't do it. It's not allowed.
I can't really comment on it unless I see it. I don't know what they were saying on the TV. They must have had some pretty clear images of it.
Q. Can you elaborate a little bit on what it's like to have to play this guy where you get so few looks? Is it draining mentally?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, it's sort of different. I mean, I guess it was a three hour match. It was fairly hot out there. When you play someone like Rafa there's a lot of long points, a lot of running in the rallies.
Today you have to be actually very explosive often, like on the return. It's like you need to be ready the whole match. Most times when I played against him, one game on the return during each set he strings a few shots together and makes it tough. He comes in, you know, a little bit, or he'll connect with a few forehand returns.
It's tough. You just need to try to concentrate really hard the whole match and not get too frustrated or too pumped because it can change very quickly.
Q. He cast aspersions on the integrity of the tournament. He said everyone wanted you to win, and he said that was responsible for him getting called for he said the 11 foot faults. What is your reaction to that particular aspect of what he said?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I mean, that's very tough to question the integrity of Wimbledon, I would have thought. I mean, it's got a lot of history, a lot of tradition. There's been hundreds of thousands of matches played here over the years. I mean, I've never heard that before.
But I need to see the videos. If there was 11 foot faults called against him and every one was incorrect, then that's completely wrong and unfair. But for it to happen that many times, you would think there would have been a number of fairly obvious foot faults, because you don't really see them called that much nowadays. Very rare.
If it turns out that he wasn't foot faulting, if I was him, I'd be very, very disappointed.
to be continued.......................
interview continued
Q. What you did on court, could you give us any kind of...
ANDY MURRAY: I don't want to go into it. Everyone is going to speculate as to many different things for what it is. It's something for me and the guys I work with. I don't know whether I'll continue doing it or not, but it's important to me just now.
Q. Just for Wimbledon?
ANDY MURRAY: Maybe not even in the next match. Who knows. I don't know.
Q. Gilles Simon has kicked off a bit of a debate about equal pay. He said all the men in the locker room agree with him that it's not right. Would you say that's true?
ANDY MURRAY: There's a lot of things the guys do agree on. For example, like at the French Open, Sara Errani, who made the final in singles and won the doubles, because it's not best of five sets for the women, it's much easier to play singles and doubles, so therefore more chance to make money that way, because there's very few of the singles guys that have a chance or a realistic shot of winning the event will be playing doubles here.
Same thing here. It's five set singles, five set doubles, so even less guys are going to play. There's things that we will agree on. It's not always just about equal pay, it's about the way the men's and women's tournaments differ, I guess.
But I think it was him and Stakhovsky. I think both of them have been elected to the Player Council and have been a little outspoken.
Q. The dynamics with Marcos, how do they change with his current coaching setup in your own mind?
ANDY MURRAY: They don't. When I played him last year in Tokyo it was a little bit weird having Miles there. I played him again in Brisbane and felt much more comfortable playing against him.
I mean, now I wouldn't have thought it would have any bearing on the match really.
Q. Have you any thoughts about David Beckham not being picked for Team GB football?
ANDY MURRAY: No. I mean, I have no idea who should be picked for the football team and who would be the best guys to give the team the best chance of winning. I think that's what it's about, not about who has the biggest name or whoever. It's about picking the best team to win the event.
Q. There was a report today in the States that one of the owners of one of the National Football League teams there was talking about possibly locating a franchise in London. I know you're a sportsman that likes other sports to watch. How do you think that would do?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, from what I heard, a few times they've come over and played a couple games here and it was absolutely packed from what I heard. I didn't go to the games.
I mean, yeah, if there's a demand for it, people are going to go and watch, then that's great. I wouldn't like to be the team playing from the UK having to do all the travel. It would be tough. It's like anything: I think if there's a demand for it, why not?
Q. Given the unusual way today's match had to be played because of his serve, is it almost going back to normality in terms of playing Marcos next?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I hope so. I mean, I just got to make sure and practice tomorrow, hit a lot of balls. Like I say, today it was very explosive. There was very few rallies. A lot of it is sort of reaction; whereas I'm sure there will be a lot more longer rallies against Marcos and there won't be periods in the match where I can't get into his service games or I'm not touching the ball.
It will be a different kind of match. I just need to make sure I hit enough balls tomorrow so I'm in a good rhythm for Saturday.
Q. Do you feel you've gotten better at playing against a guy like Karlovic?
ANDY MURRAY: I've had success against guys of that height and game style. I think I played him three times before and won each one. I've had a decent record against Isner. I normally haven't minded it too much.
It's just important to be patient against them. The more times you play against them you know more or less what to expect so you can be a little bit better prepared each time mentally.

BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/18653612) - Wimbledon 2012: Andy Murray v Marcos Baghdatis analysis
Miles Maclagan, coach of Marcos Baghdatis
"Andy is obviously the home favourite and Marcos has been around and people know him, so a lot of people are looking forward to it.
"I spent two and a half years with Andy but guys are on tour 35, 40 weeks of the year so they know each other well. I just hope my time with him gives what I say to Marcos a little bit more authority and belief.
Use accessible player and disable flyout menus
"I was impressed by Andy against Ivo Karlovic - he looked very focused, served well and is clearly in good shape.
"Marcos is a dangerous player; he's got all the shots, can play a full-court game, often rises to the occasion and plays better on the bigger courts.
"I think Andy's biggest worry is focusing on himself. With Nadal now out, the pressure is increased. Casual tennis observers forget there aren't just four players in tennis. They're thinking 'because Nadal's not there, who's Andy playing in the final?' That adds pressure.
"I'm hoping my boy wins and I'll do everything I can to help him. He's got through two rounds, he's feeling good, he's on Centre and he'll enjoy it."

Right now Baghdatis is dangerous, he moves well and the audience always seem to get behind him. He can get emotional and lets them take over. Andy Murray is doing everything very good. He has been alot better in the controlling of his emotions. Ivan Lendl has been helping him immensely.
Nick’s Pick- I have to give the edge to Murray in 4 sets in this one.

Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis explained on Sunday that Andy Murray's match against Marcos Baghdatis was allowed to continue because a conclusion was in sight.
Victory was tied up by Murray at 11.02pm, exceeding the previous record of 10.58pm set by Novak Djokovic and Olivier Rochus two years ago. The official curfew is 11pm, which is the time the final game began.
However, Lewis explained on BBC Five Live's Sportsweek programme: 'The fact is planning permission for the roof and the air management system was granted on the basis of an 11 o'clock finish.
'So once you get to 11 o'clock, it becomes a tennis decision and it was quite obvious last night that Andy Murray....was to be given a service game at 11 o'clock to give the player a chance to finish the match, so it was a very simple decision.'
While there is a small degree of flexibility and common sense, Lewis also emphasised the safety aspects of all the spectators dispersing and that local residents also have to be taken into consideration.
Lewis agreed there is 'merit in the idea' of a midnight finish but was loathe to compare Wimbledon with the US and Australian Opens, held in New York and Melbourne respectively.

SPORTSWEAR giant Adidas will give Andy Murray a different type of shorts to wear at Wimbledon today after his victory against Marcos Baghdatis was almost derailed by a wardrobe malfunction.
The No4 seed struggled to keep his tennis balls in the pocket of his shorts – dropping his spare ball at least three times, costing him two points.
Adidas said yesterday the problem was caused by “human error” in the bespoke pair of handmade silk shorts specially designed for the Scottish star, who has a £10 million sponsorship deal with the company.
When challenged about his difficulty in keeping hold of his balls, Murray said: “I’m blaming the shorts. It wasn’t my fault.”

Andy Murray - third round
Saturday 30 June 2012
A. MURRAY/M. Baghdatis
7‑5, 3‑6, 7‑5, 6‑1
Q. One of your most memorable Wimbledon matches?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it was. Yeah, it was tough obviously for both of us. You know, the conditions are tricky the first couple of sets. It was very windy.
Obviously the roof, I think the quality of tennis improved under the roof. I was under the impression I was stopping at 11:00 regardless of what the score was. Even if it was in the middle of a game.
But, yeah, obviously glad that I managed to get the finish. And, you know, the atmosphere at the end was excellent.
Q. Was it a bit off‑putting even during the first two sets not knowing when the roof was going to go on, knowing it was going to be at some point?
ANDY MURRAY: Again, it was the same for both of us, but it's not ‑‑ you know, we were never going to get the match finished, you know, unless it was 6‑2, 6‑2, 6‑2.
After the first set, which was fairly long, you kind of ‑‑ it's tough not to look ahead, but it's something you need to do. He started playing better at the end of the second.
I was making some more mistakes, but still had a lot of chances, as well. I had Love‑40 at 2‑All, and then got broken. Then had break back point and Love‑30s and wasn't getting them. So, yeah, the stop probably helped me.
Q. How distracting was the time issue as you got closer to 11:00?
ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I think if the set had been tighter I think it would have been distracting, but because the momentum was kind of with me, I just wanted to keep it going and play, you know, fairly quickly; whereas, I think, you know, for him it would have been better to, you know, to slow it down a little bit.
But, yeah, like I said, I was under the impression that 11:00 we were stopping regardless of what the score was, and I think I actually broke serve to go 5‑1 at that time, and then walked to the net because I thought we were going to have to come back on Monday.
Q. Did you really think they would make you play one game on Monday?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah. I mean, I don't know what the ruling is. I don't know who decides when we can stop, but I thought it was an agreement they had with the public, and, you know, the people that live around here that they wouldn't play past 11:00.
So I didn't know if they were going to get fined or whatever. They said they'd speak to the Health and Safety to find out. But you never know. Even at 5‑1 the match still could have gone on. I was just lucky I finished it in a couple minutes.
Q. Did it seem like common sense prevailed in terms of playing those extra two minutes?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I think, you know, with the roof there's always going to be, you know, some difficult situations for the tournament director or the referee. You know, because like today it was a perfect example. Do we start the match with the roof on so there's no delays, or, you know, yesterday I think they got criticized quite a lot because it didn't rain at all and the roof was shut the whole day, you know, when it shouldn't have been, because it's obviously meant to be an outdoor event.
There is going to be a lot of those situations cropping up, I think.
Q. What's your feeling about the last point, the idea of those saying it's supposed to be an outdoor event and they are playing too much matches under the roof and that changes tennis and therefore changes sort of the integrity of the tournament?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, I think yesterday was probably one that they might have made a mistake on. Apart from that, I think, you know, people want to see tennis. There is a lot of people involved, you know, sponsors, TVs, people all around the world who want to see tennis.
If it does rain, having the roof is a huge benefit because there is always guaranteed matches going on. Like you say, there are always going to be difficult situations, you know when you only have one court with the roof, because obviously for me now it's an advantage that I got the match finished.
Other years I would have had to play three sets on Monday. So, you know, for me it obviously helps. You know, Cilic played 17‑15 in the fifth set. I'm sure he would have rather I was having to play three sets on Monday before playing against him.
Q. Your mum and your gran are in the Royal Box today. A special moment for your family?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I think so. I saw my mum beforehand. I don't normally see her at the tracks, so I think she's a little bit nervous about the outfit. But, yeah, I think they really, really enjoyed it, yeah.
Q. What do you think of her outfit?
ANDY MURRAY: I thought she looked nice. She's very slim right now. My whole family has been telling her she needs to put some weight on. I'll talk to her about that.
Q. Could you look ahead for us to the next match?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, obviously, I mean, you always kind of know what's going on around you, but, you know, when the scoreboard was coming up and it was like 14‑all, 15‑all, you know, there's a bit of ‑‑ you sort of thinking that's great for me, or for Marcos.
Yeah, I mean, guys can recover, though. It was a five‑hour match. When I played Novak in Australia our match was pretty much five hours, and then he played six hours against Rafa. So you can recover. The day definitely, definitely helps, but hopefully I'll be the fresher.
continued .......
.......... Andy's post Baggy match presser continued
Q. You've had some high profile matches with him at Grand Slams. What do you remember from them?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah. I played obviously the one in Australia. It may even have been the last time we played. Yeah, it was a tough match. He was coming into that one after a couple of long five setters, as well, and started the match really well.
So it will be important for me to try to get off to a good start in the match against him. If you are feeling a little bit tired and you go behind, it can be tough to come back.
Q. How are you feeling after falls?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, nothing I'm too worried about. Got obviously a few bumps and bruises. I fell quite a lot more than I normally do on the grass. I changed shoes. I put a new pair of shoes on when the break came with the roof and moved better after that.
Q. Was that because of the timing of the match, just late, gets a bit more slippery?
ANDY MURRAY: Yeah. Sometimes when it started to get very dark and when I have played late matches there before I have found it does get a little bit greasy. Sometimes under the roof, as well, it can do. It's quite humid in there.
Marcos fell a couple of times I think after the roof came on. So, yeah, it was tough to move at times.
Q. How much of the Nadal‑Rosol match did you watch? What were your thoughts on that?
ANDY MURRAY: When I came off the court I saw a couple of points at the end of the first set, and then I did all my press and went home.
Then I saw probably about five or six games in the fifth set.
Q. What impression did that leave? What was the reaction to seeing that?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, it's just a freak match, I think. I mean, the guy played unbelievable. He just hit absolute rockets. You know, then obviously today lost in straight sets to Kohlschreiber.
It's very tough. The way that he was playing, for it to be going in, there's no margin for error. He's hitting the ball so low over the net, so flat, so hard, that, yeah, it was always going to be tough to keep up.
Like today it was pretty breezy out there. You try playing that brand of tennis in the wind, it's tough. He played quite an amazing match.
Q. Roger said last night he said it's good for the sport that these upsets can still happen. Obviously the four of you have dominated at Grand Slams recently. Do you think the same?
ANDY MURRAY: To be honest, I mean, I don't know. I think, you know, a lot of people have said to me that the quality of matches at the end of the Grand Slams have been unbelievable the last few years.
You know, people like seeing that, but I think upsets are part of any sport. Some people like them; some people ‑‑ I'm sure Rafa, Rafa has a lot of fans that wouldn't have been too happy about it.
But it's just part of part of sports. They haven't happened that much over the last few years in slams, but they will start happening more. I don't think necessarily consistency from the top players can continue that much.
Q. Have you spoken with Rafa about the match or with other players about Rafa's match?
ANDY MURRAY: No, I haven't really spoken to any other players about it. I have spoken obviously to the guys I work with, you know, friends and stuff.
But, yeah, I haven't really spoken to ‑‑ I mean, normally during the day, you know, when there's matches on there are a lot of guys in the locker room discussing matches.
Because that match was finished in the evening, you know, and I wasn't playing the next day, I just came in and practiced and left. I didn't really speak to any of the players about it, but I'm sure everyone was very surprised.
Q. What will you do tomorrow?
ANDY MURRAY: Well, practice a little bit later, obviously a late finish. I will try and have a long lie‑in and make sure to see the physio a lot. Seeing as he's here, I can call him out. (Laughter.)
Yeah, well, make sure I'm in the best shape possible for Monday.

Yes, watched it no problem!:thanks:
I'd thought Judy was looking thin as well - face is drawn. Can't understand it with all the food she eats (or says she does). Maybe it's the stress of her new job.
I think she just burns it off very quickly and she has a thin face to start with. There's an old Scots saying that as women grow older they either 'waxen or wizen' - she's one that will wizen.

There was a hilarious article in today's Times (I read it at work - unfortunately you can't access their website unless you are a subscriber ). It was someone who used to be a stringer at Wimbledon talking very frankly about the players. Apparently Roger is the fussiest when it comes to the stringing. He said the Williams sisters are 'horrible people' and 'you wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with Roger Federer'. He also said that Novak and another Serbian player (can't remember which one now) asked him where they should go to pick up women! He also said that he likes Andy and his family.
